In the wake of the reauthorization and extension of the Patriot Act, few Democrats have been as vocal as during the Bush administration. Dennis Kucinich raised the rallying cry against what he called America's love of its fears. He cited the three extended provisions: conduct roving wiretaps, surveillance of people not associated with terrorism and tapping into your personal records. The AP called the votes a political victory for Republicans. "Thrown away were restrictions and greater scrutiny on the government's authority to spy on Americans and seize their records." Democratics bowed to wishes of Republicans and conducted a voice vote which passed 315-97.
