Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Democrat Charles Rangel, the top tax writer in the U.S. Congress, was admonished on Thursday by a congressional ethics committee for taking corporate-funded trips to the Caribbean, a finding he said defied "common sense." The House of Representatives ethics committee concluded that Rangel broke the chamber's gift rules in taking the trips but it did not immediately release its report. Rangel claimed the report found he did not know the trips in 2007 and 2008 were underwritten by corporations, but that two of his staffers did.

Rangle needs to step down. To listen to him tap dance his way around this was laffable.

Times up, Charlie. Move on.

I've got zero invested in Rangle staying in office, but even the guy on NPR sounded incredulous when talking about this.

He's being given the naughty finger because 2 people on his staff knew, but he didn't know. Supposedly the report doesn't even claim that he knew or that the 2 staffers told him.

That's laughable.

This guy has been in office longer than I've been alive. This is the best they can come up with?

No, it's not. This is just the report on the trip. The tax and rental stuff has yet to come.
That is if I read the paper correctly this morning.

We need to keep Rangel right where he is. In that libtard-heavy district, they would just replace him with one of his clones, but who--for now--seems clean.

Every day he's in the paper, he's kept busy and distracted, fighting for his survival. Let him.

"This is the best they can come up with?"

Aside from tax evasion and God only knows what else, why would Charlie block this from going to committee? It may not be an ethics violation, but it sure stinks.

The H.R. 2122 bill has seven bi-partisan co-sponsors: Reps. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), Jose Serrano (D-NY), Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), Joseph Crowley (D-NY), Darrell Issa (RCA), Walter Jones (RNC), and Dan Burton (RIN). Lawmakers requested time on the Ways and Means Committee schedule to consider the bill and brief members on the panel about it.

Rangle needs to step down. To listen to him tap dance his way around this was laffable.

Step down hell, he needs to be thrown in prison for his income tax evasion.

Let's be honest here, ethics is as foreign to Charlie as a house salad.

Rangel is lame. But unless congress throws him out, he's not going anywhere and his district will never vote for someone else.

Charlie as ususal is blaming his staff. Much like he blamed his accountant for him trying to avoid paying taxes.

good time charlie's got the blues.

Actually--he blamed his wife on his tax cheating. :o)

you cant forget his heroic service in the korean war..
that being said..
the lousy fucker blamed it on HIS sTAFF..

hit the road dickhead

Actually--he blamed his wife on his tax cheating. :o)

NO soup for YOU!

"But unless congress throws him out, he's not going anywhere and his district will never vote for someone else."

Well, Congress should throw him out....then his district can go ahead and elect Marion Barry.

hey I hear that patterson in new york may be out of work

race bating bastard needs to just fuck off into the sunset

My money is on Rangle staying put, keeping his chairmanship after this wristslap.

"We're going to end this culture of corruption" - Nancy Pelosi

She forgot to mention, that only pertains to Repub's and all Dems' will be excused.

Nothing to see here folks...move along...

This is the corruption you get with one party rule!!!

C'mon November!!!

I've got zero invested in Rangle staying in office, but even the guy on NPR sounded incredulous when talking about this.

What's laughable is how bias NPR is. All of them should have been charged, and Charlie should be made an example of. Irregardless, makes you wonder WHY they are taking so long on the other issues. I mean how many people get a 2 year investigation into tax incidents by the IRS?

They tend to freeze accounts first, send letters of taxes due second, and go away after settlement. Rangel is on thin ice. Funny how nancy Pelosi is being so hypocritical

When then-Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) was admonished by the ethics committee in October 2004, Pelosi and other Democratic leaders went on the offensive against him.

"Mr. DeLay has proven himself to be ethically unfit to lead the party," Pelosi said at a news conference the following day. "The burden falls upon his fellow House Republicans. Republicans must answer: Do they want an ethically unfit person to be their majority leader or do they want to remove the ethical cloud that hangs over the Capitol?"

>> Quoting from his copy of the report, Rangel said it found he did not know the trips in 2007 and 2008 were underwritten by corporations, but that two of his staffers did.

Rangel - classic lying dickhead pol. Another public-trough- sucking jackoff who's never worked!

It would almost be funny if it weren't for the fact that every cent of the dough these a-holes piss away has been stolen from hard working taxpayers.

JM

Blame it on a staffer, just like Jon Edwards did?

The only reason he hasn't stepped down yet is because he knows that his libtard constituency would still re-elect him. If he knew he had no chance next time up, it wouldn't be worth the fight, the bad press and the embarrassingly bad excuses. But he does still have a chance - and that's what's wrong with america.

No Joe, like Marion Berry they can elect whoever they want, and that's what's GOOD ABOUT AMERICA

>> Quoting from his copy of the report, Rangel said it found he did not know the trips in 2007 and 2008 were underwritten by corporations, but that two of his staffers did.

The problem with that logic is he didn't deny it--he just said there was no proof he didn't know.

And what about the places he went to?

The corporations and their logos were plastered everywhere--on the hotel, the conference podium, the handout materials, and the corp sponsor people were everywhere talking with the attendees.

It's "knew or should have known".

How stupid does he think everyone is?

Somebody needs to run against him and then he'll be out.

Can't rely on Nancy "Stretch" Pelosi to do it. And they wonder why they poll at 10% approval.

Serious question... do you think the dems in congress have the BALLS to push out a black liberal if he doesn't step down?

How long until we here cries of racism and / or agism or some other "I'm a victim -ism" bullshit?

Al Sharpton would be very emotional

It's my staff's fault. I've no oversight of anything. Really.

Why should I be held accountable for my staff? I mean, Really.

D-bag Rangel had no idea of the corp sponsorships. All he knew was that HE himself was paying for it - like ALWAYS!

JM

Mr. Rangel is either guilty or incompetent. He is the Head of the Ethics Committee and doesn't ask/wonder who is paying for these expensive wonderful trips? He said that a staffer knew but didn't tell him. This is like the athlete being banned for steroid use saying that he didn't know that the trainer giving him shots and pills were banned substances.

He either knew, is lying and should be thrown out for ethics or he didn't know, is not lying and should be thrown out for incompetence!

'I've got zero invested in Rangle staying in office, but even the guy on NPR sounded incredulous when talking about this.'

I like Rangel but I agree that is the LAMEST excuse I have ever heard. Rangel is ultimately responsible for the actions of his aides.

'What's laughable is how bias NPR is. All of them should have been charged, and Charlie should be made an example of.'

Spoken by someone who OBVIOUSLY does not listen to NPR. They are just about the most UNBIASED media you can obtain in America.

So what

I guess that makes Charlie Rangel AOK?

Do they want an ethically unfit person to be their majority leader (Head of the Ethics Committee) or do they want to remove the ethical cloud that hangs over the Capitol?"

Serious question... do you think the dems in congress have the BALLS to push out a black liberal if he doesn't step down?

They allowed Jefferson to stay until the folks voted him out. The guy with the 90k cash in the freezer and ties to Nigeria.

PELOSI asked how this goes with her pledge for the bestest congress in history and her reply??

this IS the most honest congress in history...paraphrasing but check it out...

she CANT really think that we will believe her, does she?

WHAT SHe said was that rangle DIDNT violate the rules of the house

DAMN IT TO HELL am I ever glad he's not a republican...we would have to listen to the left go into convulsions again

Is it better for Republicans that Rangel stays on... and that Dems don't force him out?

If you're a Dem supporter, do you want to see him purged... if not simply because he's skirted the rules... but because he's become a poster boy for entrenched Dem power and influence/corruption/ entitlement?

My two cents... he won't be jettisoned. He'll stay onboard. His district is a safe one. It'd be the same if Pelosi was found to have had her hand in the Botox jar.

Talk of "draining the swamp" has long since been forgotten, apparently.

"Is it better for Republicans that Rangel stays on... and that Dems don't force him out?"

It shouldn't be a Dem/Rep issue. If the average taxpayer did what he did, it would be considered tax fraud. He should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

There has to be someone who can run against this guy in November?

Rangle could be caught with a ton of cash pouring out of his pockets, in a Thai gay brothel, clubbing a baby seal, passing a suitcase nuke to Osama Bin Laden and cheering for the Red Sox and still win his next election by a hefty margin.

The MSM will look the other way, then blame Bush.

WE NEED TERM LIMITS!!!!

Doesn't Rangel represent Harlem?

Are there no honest people in Harlem to run against him??

Or is everything so corrupt and status quo that it is hopeless?

DAN-
So would you support the Dem leadership publicly calling for not only his ouster but a full legal investigation and (if appropriate) prosecution?

And if Dem leadership doesn't call for his ouster... do you think such an omission will have any impact on the 2010 congressional races?

I realize (and agree) that it shouldn't be a Dem/Rep issue, yet we both know it's a war in DC.

One side loses a soldier (Trent Lott, Ney, others...) while the other side loses a soldier (Jefferson).

Question: Do you see any sort of double standard in terms of the media banging the drums for someone's departure depending on their party affiliation? (Think Jefferson... Trent Lott vs Harry Reid or other racially insensitive Dem commentators).
