Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Tiger Woods doesn't owe me an apology. Nothing that he has ever done has cost me a dime nor an hour of sleep.

This is not a plea to be "non-judgmental." I am very judgmental about all sorts of things, including Tiger Woods' bad behavior. But that is very different from saying that he somehow owes me an apology.

For all I know, my neighbors may be judgmental when I drive out of my driveway in a 15-year-old car. But they have never said anything to me about it, and I have never offered them an apology. This is not equating driving a 15-year-old car with what Tiger Woods did. But the point is that any apology he might make should be made to his family, who were hurt, not to the public, who might be disappointed in him, but not really hurt.

This is an intersting take, IMO.

One part of me is glad Tiger owned up and the other says, "Is this really necessary?" What I tire of is the incessant reporting of such incidents - you'd think we'd all be used to such behavior from celebrities - now they want to corner the market on public apologies...as if THAT is what makes them appear better.

I'm just trying to get my husband to allow one of his Wii golf games into the house!

Thomas Sowell owes ME an apology for being such a pedantic tool.

His girlfriends owe him an apology.

Woods was apologizing to his sponsors, albeit indirectly, for not being the squeaky clean pitchman they paid for. That's all. He wasn't really apologizing to any of us.

"This is an intersting take, IMO."

My favorite part is when people watch these BS press conferences and say "He wasn't very sincere...."

Of course he wasn't sincere: He was apologizing to people who he doesn't know over crap that is none of their business! He'd have to be INSANE to be completely sincere. There are people to whom he did owe sincere apologies but a public press conference, without the aggrieved parties even being there, is hardly the correct forum for that.

Not only are these press conferences unnecessary, they aren't even entertaining. My favorite ridiculous press conference by an athelete of all time was not an apology - It was Mike Piazza holding a press conference to deny being gay. Just the fact that this became necessary in the first place was hysterical to me. Kudos to the NY media for instigating that one.... Close 2nd is Iverson's "we're talkin bout PRACTICE" conference.....
