Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The new campaign contributions data underscore the political quandary facing Democrats, who want Wall Street donations to help fend off a GOP resurgence in congressional elections this fall but hope to distance themselves from an industry vilified by the public as greedy and ungrateful. President Obama has sought to strike a balance, calling outsize Wall Street bonuses "shameful" and "obscene" while also assuring business executives that he does not "begrudge people success or wealth."

hint: "shameful", "obscene."

The people in wall street put their support behind who they believe will win. When Bush's numbers looked bad, most wall street money backed Obama.

Now that the dems look to be on the ropes, the money is swinging to repubs. If a 3rd party comes along that looks like it is going to win, they will back them. Wouldn't matter if they were socialist or fascist or anarchist... as long as there were going to be running a gov't that continually regulate and control every aspect of every business.

Don't want wall street to have so much influence? Take the power back from washington. Otherwise, there is no hope and the only change is what you can find in your couch.

The repubs are gonna win big this year. Wall street is just buying off the next guys in charge. just like they did with obama.
Business as usual.

Corporate personhood destroyed america. Nearly every problem we face today can be traced back to the notion that corporations have a right to free speech, and buying off legislators is speech. Two fatal fallacies.

What is destroying this country is the idea that people should be too stupid to take care of themselves, and that if you dumb-down the education system enough, you can buy off more than 50% of the population. Tell me again, what percentage of the US population pays 0 federal income tax? How many people rely on welfare, medicaid, medicare, social security?

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy..."

Don't know this will happen with our current president, or the next, but I believe it might happen soon.

Wall Street shifting to the GOP makes nothing but sense.

By their perspective the 51/49% Solution (TM) must continue.

A grid-locked government makes it easier to buy the votes they need to get bills leading to fiscal responsibility killed, curtailed, kicked down the road or re-written to do anything but what they were designed to do.

If Wall Street is mad at Obama then he must be doing something right.

That all noted, everyone who isn't an absolute moron recognizes at this point the vital necessity of returning to sane regulatory policy whose abandonment has lead to these sorry times.

This is not really happening.

Until corporate monies are removed from the electoral process it prolly won't ever be.

Be Well.

Actually i would say a democracy can only exist until THE WEALTHY discovers it can vote MORE WEALTH out of the public treasury. After that, THE WEALTHY always BUY votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy..."

THe problem is not the majority of americans scamming the system, it's the wealthy and powerful rearranging the system to work for themselves and ONLY themselves.

The poor wouldnt need so much governmental assistance if the well connected hadnt sucked up all the money for themselves by way of purchasing politicians. Once again, it all comes down to corporate personhood's 'free speech'. eliminating this would be the only way to regain our democracy, or MAJORITY RULE. What we have instead is a PLUTOCRACY. Rule by the wealthy. Anyone who says different is just wrong.
