Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

His belief that that day is imminent has led Pray to a group called Oath Keepers, one of the fastest-growing "patriot" organizations on the right. Founded last April by Yale-educated lawyer and ex-Ron Paul aide Stewart Rhodes, the group has established itself as a hub in the sprawling anti-Obama movement that includes Tea Partiers, Birthers, and 912ers. Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs, and Pat Buchanan have all sung its praises, and in December, a grassroots summit it helped organize drew such prominent guests as representatives Phil Gingrey and Paul Broun, both Georgia Republicans.

There are scores of patriot groups, but what makes Oath Keepers unique is that its core membership consists of men and women in uniform, including soldiers, police, and veterans.

...Tea Partiers, Birthers, and 912ers. Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs, and Pat Buchanan...

I've gotta start paying more attention. Heard of all the rest but who or what are "912ers"?

Mother Hubbard is flapping her lips again with the sos (same old shit)? Also, Sos as from SDLC (recently posted by your good buddy, rcade), Chris Matthews, Bill OReilly, and the rest of your fake left and right globalist clansmen. The fake pundits on both sides proves it is not a left-right or Obama issue.

Ironic that your healine should include 'treason'. The very real threat of treason is the very reason oathkeepers has formed. Las Vegas Review Journal

Launched in March by Las Vegan Stewart Rhodes, Oath Keepers bills itself as a nonpartisan group of current and retired law enforcement and military personnel who vow to fulfill their oaths to the Constitution.

More specifically, the group's members, which number in the thousands, pledge to disobey orders they deem unlawful, including directives to disarm the American people and to blockade American cities. By refusing the latter order, the Oath Keepers hope to prevent cities from becoming "giant concentration camps," a scenario the 44-year-old Rhodes says he can envision happening in the coming years.

It's a Cold War-era nightmare vision with a major twist: The occupying forces in this imagined future are American, not Soviet.

"The whole point of Oath Keepers is to stop a dictatorship from ever happening here," Rhodes, a former Army paratrooper and Yale-trained lawyer, said in an interview with the Review-Journal. "My focus is on the guys with the guns, because they can't do it without them.

FTA: Clad in an oversize black hoodie that hides his military physique, Pray sports an Army-issue buzz cut and is seriously inked (skulls, smoke, an eagle). His father kicked him out of the house at age 14. Two years later, after working jobs from construction to plumbing"If it's blue collar, I've done it"he tried to enlist. It wasn't long after 9/11, and he was hell-bent on revenge. The Army turned him down. Blaming the "THOR" tattooed across his fist, Pray tried to burn it off. On September 11, 2006, he approached the Army again and was accepted.

Was his dad G Gordon Liddy?

Courting radical, violence-prone, low-info, mouth-breathing, fringe idiots is further proof that the GOP are desperate and willing to marginalize themselves to a ridiculous degree.

Good luck with that.

Be Well.

These sub-human pieces of crap should be court martialed from the military and fired from any law enforcement positions. It is always those who believe they are the patriots who overthrow democratically elected governments and install dictatorships.

It is always those who believe they are the patriots who overthrow democratically elected governments and install dictatorships.

Back in the dirty thirties when a global depression had led to the installation of fascist governments in Spain, Italy and Germany a fascist coup in America organised by corrupt pols both Dem and Rep and supported by many large corporations threatened to take down FDR.

The group was called the American Liberty League.

Prescott Bush was allegedly a member.

They were stopped by a hugely popular military hero named Smedley Butler.

The League stated that it would work to "defend and uphold the Constitution" and to "foster the right to work, earn, save and acquire property." The League spent between $500,000 and $1.5 million in promotional campaigns; its funding came mostly from the Du Pont family, as well as leaders of U.S. Steel, General Motors, General Foods, Standard Oil, Birdseye, Colgate, Heinz Foods, Chase National Bank, and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. It reached over 125,000 members and supported the Republicans in 1936.

In the year of its founding, 1934, the League was accused by Smedley Butler of being involved in a fascist Business Plot to overthrow President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Butler was a retired Marine Corps general and strong supporter of President Roosevelt. Butler said that he was approached to lead a group of 500,000 veterans to take over the functions of government. Butler speculated in his congressional testimony that the League was somehow involved with a plan to found a para-military fascist veterans organization, an 'American version' of the 1930s French Croix-de-Feu.

A whitewash investigation eventually decided the threat wasn't real and many contemporary MSM journos agree.

Spud keeps an open mind.

The league allegedly broke up and disbanded in the 1940's.

Somehow these Oathkeepers just seem like the latest incarnation of a very old and very ugly phenomenon.

Be Well.

The article doesn't say anything about being organized by Republicans. It was founded by Democrats. The Rep was short for Representative. They supported the Republicans in 1936 because they were running against FDR.

en.wikipedia.org

A New Ideology
In summing up the League's philosophy, liberal author George Wolfskill (The Revolt of the
Conservatives) outlined a remarkably coherent libertarian position. They believed, he said,
that the New Deal was a threat to the Constitution and represented a danger of tyranny via
centralization; that it was based on coercion, deceit, and false economic principles: that
recovery was in fact retarded by government intervention; that government agricultural
controls were "a cure worse than the disease;" that the New Deal combined aspects of
socialist and fascist economic systems; that private enterprise was being damaged; that deficit
financing and high spending threatened the nation with inflation; and that the banking
community was now under the political control of the federal government

Statements by American Liberty League spokesmen were of a solid anti-statist cast. Howard
Pew lashed into planned economies, charging that they lead to "lower living standards,
national decay and the sacrifice of liberty... whether the dictator is a usurper by force or is
elected under the forms of popular government." Journalist Neil Carothers charged: "The
materials for a disastrous inflation have been built up, and no one knows when these
inflammable materials will be set ablaze. Our currency measures have disorganized foreign
trade, cruelly embarrassed the gold standard countries of Europe, deepened the misery of
China, and retarded recovery the world over."

Despite what the apologists for the New Deal said of those who attended this gala affair, the
words that Al Smith hurled at Franklin Roosevelt still had the ring of truth about them.

"What are these dangers I see?" asked Smith. "The first is the arraignment of class against
class. It has been freely predicted that if we were ever to have civil strife again in this country
it would come from the appeal to passion and prejudices that comes from demagogues that
would incite one class of our people against another.

"In my time I have met some good and bad industrialists; I have met some good and bad
financiers, but I have also met sonic good and had laborers, and this I know, that permanent
prosperity is dependent on capital and labor a-like."

Yes Spud, I can see how your ilk would not like the American Liberty League.

The source for Stirs's plagiarism appears to be www.davidpietrusza.com

Al Smith? You mean the guy who was running against FDR? Lol.

The American Liberty League died out within six years of its founding. Any group claiming that moniker today is a recent concoction.

How can their organization be "treasonous"?:

"I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

In the National Guard (Army or Air)

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the State of (STATE NAME) against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the Governor of (STATE NAME) and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to law and regulations. So help me God."

They have every right to do this - they are sworn to do this as long as our Constitution is in effect. Hard as some would love to change it to fit their ideals. I'm glad to know they exist and have become acquainted with a few of them.

Their oath is something we can all appreciate:

The article doesn't say anything about being organized by Republicans. It was founded by Democrats.

It's was both Dems and Republicans including Prescott Bush and Alan Dulles.

But they were just the tools, the real power behind the movement was a small cabal of unelected elites and hyper riche folks.

"In 1936, William Dodd, the U.S. Ambassador to Germany, wrote a letter to President Roosevelt in which he stated....

"A clique of U.S. industrialists is hell-bent to bring a fascist state to supplant our democratic government and is working closely with the fascist regime in Germany and Italy. I have had plenty of opportunity in my post in Berlin to witness how close some of our American ruling families are to the Nazi regime.... A prominent executive of one of the largest corporations, told me point blank that he would be ready to take definite action to bring fascism into America if President Roosevelt continued his progressive policies. Certain American industrialists had a great deal to do with bringing fascist regimes into being in both Germany and Italy. They extended aid to help Fascism occupy the seat of power, and they are helping to keep it there. Propagandists for fascist groups try to dismiss the fascist scare. We should be aware of the symptoms. When industrialists ignore laws designed for social and economic progress they will seek recourse to a fascist state when the institutions of our government compel them to comply with the provisions."

Prescott Bush, along with his partners in crime, was one of those industrialists.

He continued to supply money and material support to the Nazi regime in Germany even after the US had entered the war.

Until he was stopped and the funds were frozen.

Later after the war he used his connections to get the cash unfrozen, had the MSM of his day hide the scandal enuff to allow him to run for office and win.

Yes Spud, I can see how your ilk would not like the American Liberty League.

The quotes you posted came from wikipedia and said nothing about Republicans. They were Democrats. Al Smith was a democrat.

Now Pray is both a Birther and a Truther. He believes he is following an illegitimate, foreign-born president in a war on terror launched by a government plot9/11.
I wasn't aware that "birthers" and "truthers" were often the same people. I figured one was anti-Obama and the other anti-Bush. Part of me wants them all investigated for threats against the president, but part of me thinks that will make them feel validated.

Where socialism sought totalitarian control of a society's economic processes through direct state operation of the means of production, fascism sought that control indirectly, through domination of nominally private owners. Where socialism nationalized property explicitly, fascism did so implicitly, by requiring owners to use their property in the "national interest"that is, as the autocratic authority conceived it. (Nevertheless, a few industries were operated by the state.) Where socialism abolished all market relations outright, fascism left the appearance of market relations while planning all economic activities. Where socialism abolished money and prices, fascism controlled the monetary system and set all prices and wages politically. In doing all this, fascism denatured the marketplace. Entrepreneurship was abolished. State ministries, rather than consumers, determined what was produced and under what conditions.

www.econlib.org

Sounds like many of FDR's policies.

Where socialism sought totalitarian control of a society's economic processes through direct state operation of the means of production.

That's not socialism that's communism.

Socialism just means that the workers are entitled to a fair say in determining their social contract.

Fascism and Communism are just different words for "totalitarian authoritarian dictatorship"

Both are cases of too much power being concentrated into too few hands and the vast majority suffering due to loss of liberties.

In truth the healthiest political system is one in which a balance is struck between necessary nationalized concerns and private industry.

Pure nationalised industry is as dumb and dangerous as an economy where everything has been totally privatised.

Both parties are guilty now of racing pell mell into the privitisation of anything that still makes money but the GOP are by far the more egregious of the two parties in that regard.

I can't really speak for Corky, but it sure does look like you need some getting-up-to-speed assistance. My interpretation of that remark is thiat Corky doesn't think much of Mr. Goldberg when it comes to him as a political philosopher.

You're welcome. (The first one's free.)

Yes it does. Whenever I see some lunatic comparison of Fascism with liberalism, it makes me think of rightwing trickster Lucianne Goldberg's baby boy and his ludicrous book of revisionist history.

#24 - so you read THE book?

Guess not! Or you'd know he stated that fascism is most difficult to define, but gave good examples of what it looks like combined with other thought. Read the book, Corky.

Well, I will agree that many of the authorities claimed by the federal and state government are unconstitutional.
The power of both governing bodies is very limited, and anything beyond that is a violation of the constitution. Much of it, in fact, pro government force, pro business subserviance, and very much anti-citizen. Add the point of consent by the governed.
You can then contemplate the criminal contract of service in the armed forces, controlled by the "elite" for criminal purpose. Treasure and blood.
Consider the demand to self incriminate, both in the public and private sector, just to participate in society.
The government is the entity engaged in treason. War from within, by the few, to enslave all.
The dhs, cia, nsa, secret service, all CRIMINAL entities under the law imposed in the constitution.
The housing and training and arming of foreign military forces. The illegal support and recognition of religion, particular to the religious wars now being waged in afghanistan and iraq. Neither for the benefit of those societies.
The continued subversive conduct against the citizenry by scotus, for the benefit of non recognized entities in both government and industry.
The theft of the citizens prosperity by both government and business.
All with a continuing, ongoing threat of force or imprisonment for refusing to comply.
That this nation and its government exist soley for the benefit for and of its citizens. That all other parties being excluded from the recipe, under the thumb and rule of the citizenry.
Somehow, though, I see myself having to fight both, if and when the shit hits the fan.

February 23 marks the anniversary of the beginning of the battle of the Alamo back in 1836. For more than 13 days, 186 brave and determined patriots withstood Santa Anna's seasoned army of over 4,000 troops. One thing is certain: those courageous champions at the Alamo did not die for a political party or for some "lesser of two evils" mantra. They fought and died for a principle, and that principle was liberty and independence. So did the men at Lexington and Concord. That is our heritage.

Liberty is an easy word to say, but it is a hard word to live up to. Freedom has little to do with financial gain or personal pleasure. Accompanying Freedom is her constant and unattractive companion, Responsibility. Neither is she an only child. Patriotism and Morality are her sisters. They are inseparable: destroy one and all will die.

As you read those words, remember that Travis and the others did not have the A.C.L.U., P.E.T.A., People for the un-American Way, and the National Education Association telling them how intolerant and narrow-minded their notions of honor and patriotism were. A hostile media did not constantly castigate them as a bunch of wild-eyed extremists. As schoolchildren, they were not taught that their forefathers were nothing more than racist jerks.

Today, however, our national leaders are in the process of turning America over to the very forces that the Alamo defenders gave their lives resisting. An argument could be made that Washington, D.C., is considerably more brutish and tyrannical than old Santa Anna ever was. I'm not so sure that it isn't already time to again hoist the "Don't Tread On Me" flags, shout "Remember The Alamo," and renew the faith and courage of William Travis and Patrick Henry.

"Too many conservatives relied on Bush's character and didn't pay attention," founder Rhodes told me. "Only now, with Obama, do they worry and see what has been done.

What's so different now?

Bush's character... what a load of redacted.

Bush's character

Oxymoron.

A clique of U.S. industrialists is hell-bent to bring a fascist state to supplant our democratic government and is working closely with the fascist regime in Germany and Italy. and this I know, that permanent

As long as it's saudi capital and Chinese labor, we agree.

The Right

and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States

Except the dark ones, cause they aren't real Americans, right Nanc?

I wasn't aware that "birthers" and "truthers" were often the same people.

Both live in a conspiracy-ridden world full of secret societies pulling the strings. Reality is what they want it to be, and if it ain't going the way they want, there has to be a plot somewhere.I do find it hilarious that he can believe 9-11 was a US government plot and still want to enlist to kill Muslims. I guess there are muslims who think 9-11 was a US plot, too, and sign up to kill Americans. Batshit brothers in arms, I guess.

I have no problem with these oath keeper dudes in theory.

My only question is: where were they during Bush?

Obama didnt oversee the passage of the ironically titled 'patriot' act, the single most destructive attack on freedom in our generation.

Therefore their current activities stink of partisan racism against a black democratic president.

If they acknowledge that Bush and Reagan served the same masters as Obama then i will consider their cause just. If a republican is elected president and they crawl back into their campers then they're no more than brainwashed foxnews watching rednecks.

Interesting look at the history.
