Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

I am not much of a "gamer". Recently, my wife and I thought it a 'cool' idea to have 'Santa Claus' give my oldest son (9 years-old) an XBOX360 for Christmas. We got him and his younger, 6 year-old brother a couple of games (Lego Indiana Jones and Sonic the Hedgehog) for Christmas. Well, they aren't overly thrilled with either game and seriously prefer the simpler 'Mario' games of the Wii.

I am seeking some help.

My big question is this: Can anyone recommend an XBOX360 game, or 3, that are palatable for a couple of boys ranging in age from 6 to 9; with the older age being more important as this was HIS Christmas gift.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

My husband and I aren't big gamers, but did get the teens the Wii this past Christmas - more a family thing - we got a fishing game we cannot figure out and the Mario Cart and a sports package with golf - we play that nightly and it is fun. Just got the pinball assortment - perhaps they'd like that one?

Nanc,

My boys love the Wii.

The problem is that the XBOX360 was my odlest's 'big' gift this Christmas and I can't find a game for him that he really likes.

I didn't want any of this crap, but I got the Wii as a surprise Christmas gift a year ago.

The floodgates have been opened...

Should be something here that would suit him.

Kim Komando recommends renting the game first to see if you like it before purchasing. She says that you can see pretty quickly whether the kids will like it or not.

I've got a 7 yr old and he's gungho on anything Lego. The Mario stuff should be available for Xbox, shouldn't it?

Lego Rockband

Gamespot.com and ign.com are both really good sites to read reviews.

Our son has an xbox and plays mostly racing games when he has the time - he wants everything Mustang since he bought his. Better on the xbox than on the road I suppose...

Mostly, our games lie in their baskets until other kids come over then they plant themselves quite firmly in one spot for hours.

#6 - We LOVE legos at this house - our son has been collecting them since the age of three and still gets them out every now and then - we recently purchased a SpongeBob set and it was like family game night putting it together! When he was small, he'd draw a lego he believed would be a big seller and send it to them with a letter; they'd write back that they were great ideas, however they had no plans to make that type in the near future.

One was Darth Vader and he sharpee'd one of his lesser important legos, made a cape, fashioned a helmet from Sculpee clay - baked and painted it and made a light saber so he'd have his own - a year or so later, they made one exactly like the prototype drawing he sent!

My youngest son is around that age and he likes Guitar Hero, Rock Band and the Burnout car race/crash games.

He hasn't played it, but the game Braid looks like a Mario style platform game:

Braid is awesome, but might be tough for a kid who likes simple games. The concepts of relative time and alternate realities used to solve the puzzles kept me stumped for a while.

You want you kid to like the 360, buy him Gears of War.

You get to a use a rifle with a chainsaw for a bayonet. What young boy wouldn't like that? Nuff' said.

Quick tip Jeff,

You can hook your XBox 360 up to the internet, and most games will have a trial version you can download for free.

Beats buying games and then finding out they don't like them.

Grand Theft Auto.

Monster Jam isnt bad if he has an interest in monster truck riding.

Lego Star wars is better than Indiana Jones

my kids love teh Wii resort games, they can play basketball, volleyball, archery, badmitton and a whole slew of stuff

GET A Wii.

Kids love Mario and Wii.
