After a couple of vetoes he did so, kicking and screaming all of the way and THEN, when it actually proved successful he claimed ownership of an agenda that his foes were the architect of.

To be fair though, his political advisor stressed to him that this was crucial to his re-election and to his credit he had the balls to give his base the big 'F-you' in order to do what was necessary to secure a second term.

Welfare reform was a MAJOR plank of the 'Contract with America'.

It's time for black voters to elect candidates who will reverse the ambition-numbing effects of 70 years of liberals. It's time to turn the wheel in the other direction as hard as we can. If we did nothing else other than vote against liberals we would be far better off. We would see immediate and incredible advances toward the society that Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed of instead of this hellish nightmare that keeps getting worse.

I think King would be shocked at the state of reace relations in America today. Even he had good reason, it didn't seem to me, from rading history, that he hated white people like many blacks (and self hating white liberals) do today.

Detroit again provides a bad example of the horrible state of race relations. When a corrupt guy can not get convicted because a lone hold out racist juror doesn't want to convict someone who looks like her, that is a bad thing. I am sure that Kings drams didn't include using the race card as a get out of jail free card. It is people like that must be making MLK turn in his grave.

While the author does point out some failed liberal policies, he seems to be too eager to push the problems in the black community onto a scapegoat.

Many of the things he listed are problems not because of liberal policy, but because of the mentality of the black community. He's trying to shirk responsibility, nothing more.

This article is kinda like the GOP decrying that nothing has been done while leaving out their culpability.

That said, how's that working out for blacks? Libbies run dozens of large cities, and states, along with their education systems, police departments, prison systems--is quality of life for blacks in Detroit or New Orleans or Chicago measurably better than, say, in Gainesville, FL? Or Colorado Springs?

I pretend nothing. You pretend to care about all that stuff. You might even have a bumper sticker on your car, and claim to have a black friend or two.

Blacks have problems with unemployment, with public schooling, with high divorce rates. They want jobs, better schools, and a happy home life. Curiously enough--those are issues every American has--me included--without resorting to identity politics.

Your life, though. Maybe if the blacks keep voting for libbies another two generations, things will get better for them. We'll see.
