Thousands of U.S. Marines and Afghan soldiers stormed the Taliban stronghold of Marjah by air and ground Saturday, meeting only scattered resistance but facing a daunting thicket of bombs and booby traps that slowed their advance through the town.

Good luck, US and NATO forces.

Ah...not to play language cop, but the headline reads like Yoda wrote it.

Failed English he did.

Oorah!

Semper Fi.

This offensive push has been rumored for a while. Only lately has it been touted in the media. Let's see its effectiveness.

Glad to see that Barry is following Bush/Cheney policy, he is. Hope the terrorists are waterboarded and killed, I do. The force be with them.

Maybe if Bush/Cheney had followed their own policy, we wouldn't have to be doing this now.

This operation too is a waste of time like all the others, I'm afraid.

As for the Yoda like headlines, they're in Urdu..... it's the new way to look cool.

Ah...not to play language cop, but the headline reads like Yoda wrote it

Aargh, it's late at night and the English and Urdu is colliding around my head, hurting my my brain. I'll take a stab at this Urdu Yoda thing:

Yoda-Speak Headline:

Bombs slow U.S. advance in Afghan town

Corrected Headline:

US Advance in Afghan Town Slowed By Bombs

And yeah, the only two real ways to permanently (and by permanently I mean like liberated Germany 1945 permanent) win over the town and population of this new place in "Marjah", in Afghan Land is:

1) The US Marines and British Tommies stay and begin to take lawful brides in the area; spawning a new generation of half-Anglo, half-Afghan kids, 100% loyal to their parents invading force.

2) Stay decade plus, building up security forces/recruiting from the local population.

I have a feeling the US/UK forces will attempt only a weak sauce version of option 2.

They should have used Chemical weapons in the night. If we Gas them as they sleep they will all die.

If we Gas them as they sleep they will all die.

Chem weapons are over-rated and they won't work in Afghanistan anyway.

Since this is winter you have winds coming from Siberia and you will end up gassing Iran too. LOL

I'm proud to be an American.

And I'm proud of Obama.

Lets get these fuckers and finish them off.

They should have used Chemical weapons in the night

The Soviets used to poison any well they found. Rumnours indicate they may have tried gassing too.
All this has happened the last 30 years. Too Late for chemical warfare. It would ruin America's reputation further what with DU and phosphorous use, whilst being a worthless tactic.

I would drop blistering agents from the sky. Imagine the suffering it would cause. Blanket the region with it. The only way to fight terror is with terror. We should have been capturing the family members of terrorists and starting cutting their heads off. A life for a life is the only way to win.

why are we doug this again?

doug = doing.

We should have been capturing the family members of terrorists and starting cutting their heads off.

Russians did that.... look where it got them. LOL

Glad to see that Barry is following Bush/Cheney policy, he is. Hope the terrorists are waterboarded and killed, I do. The force be with them.

No no. This is in Afghanistan against Terrorists. This is not in another random country with oil and with no ties to Osama.

the taliban is not al queda, we are fighting a political [arty that opposes the existing government of Afghanistan, once again we are fighting a civil war.

party not[arty

kill them

beat the shit out of them

no quarter

And the sheep bleet in support of something they don't understand, trying to win at a game they don't know how to play. The only way for nato to win is for them to leave.

thats what one commentator on cnn said this morning but he didnt explain it

tell me why that would be true...

The only way for nato to win is for them to leave.

Because it worked so well for the Afghans when everyone just left after the Russians were kicked out?

We learn from history that we do not learn from history.

We will be learning that, yet again, soon.

I saw an army official on TV saying that 1) We warned everyone at least a week ahead of time before commencing this operation. 2) We want the Taliban to get away and we don't care where they go.

I threw up in my mouth and turned off the TV.

"Because it worked so well for the Afghans when everyone just left after the Russians were kicked out?"

We don't owe them anything. Things don't work out for them because of the warlord/barbarian culture they choose to perpetuate. There is nothing we can do that will ever make them conform to the norms the rest of the world follows. They've decided that their way of doing things is more important to them than things we Westerners consider "quality of life issues" (education, medical care, economic opportunity, etc). As long as they don't attack us again, we have no reason to interfere. If they do attack us again, the correct answer is to pound them. There is never a right time to force democracy on people who don't want it.

we are fighting afghan's civil war, nothing more nothing less.
