The Iranian government said it will permanently suspend Google's email service in the country, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday. Iran's telecommunications agency announced the suspension and said a national email service for Iranian citizens would soon be rolled out.

A government in fear of its people.

Sounds like something Obama would do, though he would take FOX News out as well.

BB - President Obama doesn't have the balls to take out Fox or GMail. He doesn't even know how to use a majority for slam dunks like health reform.

On topic of Iran, I had .01% thought that their president was sane until he said Iran didn't have any gays. What an idiot.

Last year, Iran throttled down bandwidth allowed for a single connection to no more than 128-kb.

Even for cyber-cafes.

As you know, you see streaming video without it being a pain, you have to have at least 512-kb... better to have at least 1-mb (I use 2-mb).

128-k connection is USELESS.

But that is all you are allowed in Iran.

This new move is not a surprise.

Pakistani Pirate Party?

What on earth is that supposed to be?

You mean like software piracy?

Yeah. Something like that.

There's a Swedish Party that won a seat in the European parliament called the Pirate Party. All these little Tehreek-e-Insaaf type outfits like the BNP are coming out of the woodworks to get elected to the European parliament. Maybe it's time to make it official in Pakistan that piracy is the affordable way people will get an information technology education. Try and reconcile that reality with the First World and First World Level Costs of developing software and hardware.

God knows, Iran definitely needs something like that.

"Maybe it's time to make it official in Pakistan that piracy is the affordable way people will get an information technology education."

Or maybe we could just admit it's a culture of thieves.

Oh - btw - You said Iran shouldn't get nukes; I agree sorta with that but that leaves a few problems:

1) Can they ever get nukes?

2) How far along is their development and can it be continued?

3) Can they be persuaded not to do it?

4) Can Russia or China stop them?

5) Can the Europeans, India or Pakistan stop them?

Or maybe we could just admit it's a culture of thieves.

Hey, the Butt Hurt musician returns !

Seriously, what way are you involved in copyrights that this kind of talk gets on your nerves so bad?

"what way are you involved in copyrights"

I work alongside royalty artists, who are routinely ripped off by "pirates", aka thieves. You'd react the same way if it were your work product being stolen.

1) Can they ever get nukes?

Of course they can.

2) How far along is their development and can it be continued?

They are where we were in 1975-77.

This is just the impression I am getting.

Pakistan first became capable of a nuke test in 1978.

It's first nuke was tested in 1983.

3) Can they be persuaded not to do it?

Their main Ayatollah has said it's an "un-Islamic weapon". If that didn't do the trick, nothing will.

4) Can Russia or China stop them?

5) Can the Europeans, India or Pakistan stop them?

No, no, no, no and no.

Pakistani Pirate Party seems like a great idea.

But I'm not going to be involved in politics of any sort.

I'm more of a work-in-the-shadows kinda guy.

You'd react the same way if it were your work product being stolen.

Do you hear that sound?

It's me playing a violin....

Didn't we patent nuclear weapons,USA should be demanding royaties.Come on Israel,Pakistan,India and the rest.Pay up.
Right Danforth?

You'd have a blast discussing this with Nullifidian - as far as I can tell he's very much against copyrights and seemed to be of the opinion that the notion of intellectual property is crap - it should all be available to the public.

Note to Null: Forgive me if I minsconstrued your position on this, but I am stating it as I recall it.

"Right Danforth?"

Are you naturally stupid, or do you have to practice? Countries pay for technology all the time. But when they rip off the owners, that makes them thieves, be it tech or creative works.

What do you do for a living? If someone could rip off your work product, how would you feel?

" as far as I can tell he's very much against copyrights and seemed to be of the opinion that the notion of intellectual property is crap - it should all be available to the public."

Only because he's never produced a damn thing.

He decries the nasty corporations and how they treat the artists all the time... completely oblivious to the fact his model is to treat the artists even worse and pay them nothing.

Well, Danny boy... you can rest assured nobody in Iran will steal your crap.

Not at 128kb speed. LOL

"Do you hear that sound?
It's me playing a violin...."

Probably one you stole.

completely oblivious to the fact his model is to treat the artists even worse and pay them nothing.

That's how I took it as well.

Having said that, I don't want to beat him up too badly over this as he doesn't appear to be around at the moment to defend his position.

Countries pay for technology all the time

Some do, others steal or reverse engineer.I'm in both the creative and tech works.I was actually agreeing with you.

I am naturally stupid, but practice keeps my skills honed.

Countries pay for technology all the time.

That's absolutely correct - just look at how many countries currently employ the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

The bottom line is simple:

Who owns the book that Stephen King just wrote?

Who owns the most recent song Dave Matthews wrote?

The thieves believe the creator only owns it until they can steal it. Of course, if it were their work product being stolen, their howls could be heard on the moon.

#23 | Posted by Danforth

Absolutely correct.

the F-16 Fighting Falcon

Yeah - but tell that to the poor Ruski Marshal who made the Avtomat Kalashnikova Year 1947.

That's one guy I'ld like to see compensated for his work.

Good thing he now has a line of Vodkas.

Probably one you stole.

Still angry at the fight we had four months back?

Fuck the Mullahs.

Those primitive immoral gas-bags need to go the fuck away.

Now.

Good luck to the people of Iran in their attempts to start a second revolution here.

Go Green.

Be Well.

People who would never think of walking out of a restaurant without paying, or stealing a CD out of a music store will proudly rip off those same artists with the click of a mouse...because they're convinced they can get away with it, and that's as far as their morals extend.

Well, that, and the fact if they walked out of a music store with a CD or an eating establishment without paying they might actually have to --- gasp! --- answer for their actions. It's cowardice masquerading as bravado.

"Still angry at the fight we had four months back?"

What fight?

If you stole what doesn't belong to you, you're a thief. It doesn't get much clearer than that, regardless how easy the theft is, or regardless how much you rationalize.

but tell that to the poor Ruski Marshal who made the Avtomat Kalashnikova Year 1947

Yeah,he should have been a capitalist before 1989.

Yeah,he should have been a capitalist before 1989

What a fraud. You know damn well I've had heated discussions with Jack Valenti Danforth on this issue. You're just stirring the pot, as usual.

Toss, what you said about a Pak Pirate Party is probably necessary; but the thing is that that a pirate working in the shadows is more or less redundant, because pirates do work in the shadows. Plus since I learnt everything of Rainbow Centre software, I thought something needs to be given back.

Heck, I think the Rainbow Centre sales guys all have an association; maybe they should make the Pirate Party of Pakistan.

The Lahore chapter can be based in Hafeez Centre.

LOL... I used to go to Rainbow are all the time. But that was before we had proper broadband internet.

Since I got cable and now DSL, I haven't visited a software or video shop in years and years.

Everything I need, I get... I pirate.... online.

And yes, Danforth, I am proud of ripping off Americans and will continue to do so.

And there isn't shit you can do about it.

If you stole what doesn't belong to you,

Find a way to protect your property, cry-baby.

Otherwise, there is nothing to stop me from taking it away.

And I will.

The Rainbow Centre is a building in Karachi that is famous as the hub of video entertainment in Pakistan and the country's video piracy industry. It is perhaps one of the largest hubs of pirated CDs in the world.

LOL...

en.wikipedia.org

And there isn't shit you can do about it.

Actually, on second thought, there is something you can do about it.

Make shitty music.

I don't steal shitty music. I have high tastes.

Americans have plenty of money to pay in taxes... the same taxes which were used to fund fake wars and kill innocents.

So if the average American can throw money around that ends up hurting people, they might as well let me take some of their "intellectual" property away as well.

I have every right to the property of crooks and killers.

Deal with it. Stop me.

If you can.

Problem is, there is no way on earth you can stop me. LOL

Since there isn't anything you can do about it, might as well accept it and take it up the bum in silence.

Your crying, even after all these months of that fight YS mentioned, is getting on my nerves.

I like my peace and quiet, thanks.

Hey looky here.... I just started downloading CSI-NY.... the speed will double in a few minutes. LOL

img534.imageshack.us

I am always downloading something in the background, even when I'm talking to you here.

Like I said, I haven't really watched anything on TV since many years now.

I get it all online, very very easily.

Since I got cable and now DSL

Wow!!!! You have cable AND DSL! Holy shit I'm moving to Pakistan! I want to be at the height of 2003's technological advances too! What a country...

I am always downloading something in the background, even when I'm talking to you here.

No way! You can do that. Oh that seals it. I'm calling Goatfucker Airlines right now and getting a one way ticket to Pakistan. He can view a small webpage AND download things at the same time people!! We should all get to this technological Shangri-La ASAP!

Despite your questionably ethical equivications, "if I see it, it's mine" always will be the politics of a child. You're simply a parasite. I can't think of one positive thing that your culture has offered to the world. Not one.

Troll harder, meatbag. Your schtick has whiskers.

"Sounds like something Obama would do, though he would take FOX News out as well".

Just one day I'd like to not see something stupid

You have cable AND DSL!

It came with the cable-TV subscription, Asshole.

It didn't like it so I got DSL for my computer and let the cable-internet remain for the downstairs computer.

I can also use EDGE for emergency internet from my mobile phone. It's faster than the shitty cable connection.

I can't think of one positive thing ....

You can't think, period.

If you had any brains, you would've done something so people like me can't take advantage of you. LOL

It didn't like it so I got DSL for my computer and let the cable-internet remain for the downstairs computer.

If only you could hear the smell...

Wow!!! Pakistan sounds awesome!

Wow!!! Nothing awesome about it! It's just cheap internet. LOL

What IS awesome is how much I have swiped over the years.

If I do an estimate, it should be in the ... well, hell of a lot....

Around 50-GB a month's worth. LOL

If only you could hear the smell...

Cripple, if only we could smell you using your bedpan. LOL

Anyway, Pakistan is your friend and ally.

Friends share because friends love each other.

Case closed. End of discussion.

Now then.... what about Iran?

Closing down Google makes them very bad boys.

What IS awesome is how much I have swiped over the years

You're bragging about doing something that everyone on some level does?

Way to stick it to Hollywood Salad Tosser... They're practically starving out there. Hell I hear Angelina Jolie can only afford to adopt another couple thousand children of you mud people.

You're bragging about doing something that everyone on some level does?

Nope... just trying to piss you off.

And succeeding at it admirably. LOL

Hell I hear Angelina Jolie can only afford to adopt another couple thousand children of you mud people.

You are confusing her with Americans in Haiti. LOL

They're practically starving out there.

Internet is cheaper than a bag of potato chips. LOL

Nope... just trying to piss you off.
And succeeding at it admirably. LOL

Why would I care if you illegally download movies/music/books? I just don't like Muslims.

BB - President Obama doesn't have the balls to take out Fox or GMail. He doesn't even know how to use a majority for slam dunks like health reform.

Guess you have never heard of the The Cybersecurity Act of 2009

Check it out.

Bushwhackers would be impressed.

www.govtrack.us

"may declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shutdown of Internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network;"

One of the things I've always regretted about the Internet was that it didn't get some important protections built in at the beginning.

One of the ones I would have wanted was: If a nation's government censored or restricted Internet access, that nation would be disconnected from the Internet until it changed its policy. You don't want your people to have free access to information, fine. But you don't get to use the Internet for your own purposes, either.

If a nation's government censored or restricted Internet access, that nation would be disconnected from the Internet

THAT would make the Iranians very happy.

They would love to be kicked off the internet permanently.

Anyway, it seems they got paranoid this time because Google launched it's new Facebook-like service called "Buzz" or something.

Why would I care if you illegally download movies/music/books?

You don't?

Shut up then. LOL

Tosser:

Think about it. No more surfing for nuke info, no more easy gathering of useful intel, no more anything of use to a government.

No more surfing for nuke info, no more easy gathering of useful intel, no more anything of use to a government.

One of the reasons US can't stop Iran from plugging the holes where Iran gets it's nuke info, is because, I suspect, Iran still does it "old school".

Spies, dead drops... that kind of thing. I don't think a total internet cut-off will scare them.

Anyway, I saw a bit of Iranian internet on TV... it's all in Persian! LOL

No wonder you don't have people from Iran posting on DR and such places. They can't even do a proper search since they don't know the English language. LOL

booting google out of a country that supports
any terrorist that would slaughter American
infidels should come as no suprise.
they wont need things like google when their
nuke aspiritions come to fruition. or maybe they
will want to google something like nuclear winter

Iran still does it "old school".

And the only part of the US that still does it that way is it's military intelligence and it's special forces.

They're all kinda stretched right now.

It is an amazing global development how the growth of the internet has become such a major threat to despotic governments throughout the world. The type of occurrence no one could have foreseen twenty years ago.

You know damn well I've had heated discussions with Jack Valenti Danforth on this issue. - Null

I honestly don't remember it. I know I've discussed it with you, but I don't recall you and Valenti discussing it. Must be a mental block on my part.
