An Austrian millionaire is giving away every last dollar of his $3 million fortune after realising his riches were making him unhappy. "My idea is to have nothing left. Absolutely nothing," said Karl Rabeder, 47. "Money is counterproductive -- it prevents happiness to come."

I'll take it. I could go through at least 1 million of it on guitars & audio toys alone.

He should save enough for the divorce settlement.

He can be poor for a while and then appreciate the money he used to have. He just couldn't get his priorities straight. Being poor is not what it's all cracked up to be.

"Being poor is not what it used to be."

"Being poor is making a comeback."

Being poor is not what it's all cracked up to be.

I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it left.

No matter where you go there you are.

I'd rather be miserable rich than miserable poor.

Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy beer.

To BEER! The cause of... and solution to... all of life's problems

Money can't buy happiness, but it sure takes away some of the complaints.

I think the problem was he wasn't using the money wisely.

As one poster on here said, his priorites were wrong.

If someone was rich, they could help a lot of people.

Help people go to college, or help some people who are in danger of losing their home for reasons out of their control.

This guy will regret his decision somewhere down the road.

I find the credibility of this story to be suspect. How can there possibly be any millionaires in Austria when they have universal health care?

Say what you want, this guy will still live the good life.

Being poor is making a comeback."

ALL RIGHT

now about those bell bottom jeans and those 3 foot high shoes in my closet

any hope for those to comeback...

There are both miserable wealthy and poor folks---your wealth and contentment comes internally based on not only looking out for your own interests but also for the interests of others. Life is extremely rewarding when you're content no matter what your state or situation is.

I want to try this miserable rich thing. I have miserable poor down pat. I'm sure hookers and blow would cheer me up a little.

douchebag.

What an idiot. He thinks hes miserable now, wait until he has nothing left.

i have the same reaction from a lack of money.

Money doesn't buy happiness. It doesn't destroy it either.

A friend, who should know, tells me that Paul Allen isn't happy either (before his cancer diagnosis). But he ain't giving it away unless you consider fee based investments in the community like the Seattle Seahawks, Hendrix Music Experience, 360 Theater rebuilt to be giveaways. His two intercontinental cruising ships and Boeing 737 are just everyday living expenses.

"My Money Makes Me Miserable"

so does mine, so that's why i spend it on women, drugs, and cars.

THOSE THINGS make me feel better.

hands up, who's a spoiled 18 year old with a rich dad?

i can only type so fast one handed y'know...

Money can't buy you happiness, but it will rent it for you.

Sounds like the same attitude Bush took when it came to our treasury.

"It's ALL gotta GO! ....We're practically GIVING IT AWAY!!"

Living proof that a fool and his money are soon parted. No matter what it takes...

Who really believes this story? I have an ice bridge to brooklyn I will sell you.
I really would like to see algore's fat ass delivered to jail on an ice platter, then freeze him at the stake. Fucking moron that he is, and to think you leftist clowns wanted that pathetic pile of dog bile to run the U.S.A.. he can't even see the ice from the snow banks.
Yous liberals and your assclown leaders just keep proving that you serve no purpose in society other than to fuck good things up.

Tutamen Deus

#28...Ol' toilet mouth strikes again. Proof that money and conservative values can't make him happy.

Can't wait to read the follow-up 10 or 20 years from now.

a dumbest rich man in the world....

Right Wing = Less Than Nothing!!!

Hey Karl why don't you just vote for the Republican Party and then you'll really have Less than Nothing Left...as in Zero - Zip !!!

SEND ME THE MONEY!

Doesn't matter, when the dirivitives come due this year no one will have any more money.

My lack of money makes me miserable.

I won't mind sharing in your misery, Karl. So how about wiring your $3 million to:

Thanks.

Money is an illusion. The happiest time in my life was when I was broke living in a shack on the beach and eating whatever the land had to offer. Unfortunately you can't do that anymore in most countries. Hawaii is no exception. Every scrap of beach is now owned by some rich family and they got building codes, taxes and mortgages. The reefs are in trouble, the fruit trees are peoples back yards now and the coffee shacks all gone too. Money and the pursuit of it is now the only thing most young people today will ever know.

This guy is an idiot. He can keep the money and still live however the hell he wants - including like a poor person if that makes him happy. So he doesn't like expensive crap. Saving that money for himself or his family in case a major need arises would make him miserable?

Anyone who gives away his entire fortune probably didn't work very hard for it.

This guy isn't even that wealthy and with the way this economy is he probably should not be that cavalier about what he said.

Won;t he be surprised when he gives it all away and finds he still feels like shit?

This dude is about to learn the hard way that having money does not, can not, and has not, ever meant that a person is wealthy.

Wealth is the ability to create value where none existed before. Money is most often just a product of that effort.

If he is truly wealthy, money will simply find a way back to him.

Budget 1,000 a week. 52,000 a year. He can't live on that? lol
