Dear Bill Parcells:

Thank you for not letting Coach Sean Payton take Tony Romo with him when he left the Cowboys to coach the Saints.

Sincerely,

the Who Dat Nation

How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?

Dear Jerry Jones:

Thank you for being a moron and letting Sean Payton leave your organization to go and coach a Super Bowl team. Have fun with the Son of Bum and the Ginger Kid Garrett.

Sincerely,

Saints fans

Me and the little lady are doing some shopping for a mid size suv for the baby on the way. Shes making me sell my car (and throw out a bunch of crap from my bachelor pad)! So we are looking at a 1996 Ford Explorer because I never want to finance a car. It has 117k miles on it, but its cheap enough that I can just pay cash. The problem is her family has her freaked out that buying a car with over 100k miles is an absolutely horrid thing, and that financing a car with less miles is better.

I believe that a car with older miles, that is reliable (all the research I've done on the googles say the 96 explorer is a good deal) is 10X smarter than financing a car because you have it dead set in your head that a car with over 100K is the worst thing to ever own in the world.

Does anyone have an opinion on this dilemma or any experience with owning a Ford Explorer (Exploder)? Specifically one around a 96?

Wrong, do it again.

Good album, WIS.

Dear Bob Harlen/Green Bay packers,
Thank you for choosing that fat ass, Mike McCarthy over Sean Payton. We always hated being called Titletown, asshole./>

Let it roll across the floor
Through the hall and out the door
To the fountain of perpetual mirth
Let it roll for all it's worth

Andy,

My wife traded in her '99 Explorer about two years ago. It had over 100k miles and was starting to fall apart. She took care of the car - regular oil changes, tune-ups, etc. - but it still became a piece of junk. If you are looking into used cars with lots of miles look at Hondas and Toyotas.

I would like to say "Snicker." I may add a "Doodle" to it later, but, for now, I am simply saying "Snicker."

Stay tuned...

Stay tuned...

You can't tune a piano, but you can tuna fish.

Andy, Taxman is right. That's alot of miles and how many of that vintage do you still see on the road?

Claims on behalf of authorities that naked body scanner images are immediately destroyed after passengers pass through new x-ray backscatter devices have been proven fraudulent after it was revealed that naked images of Indian film star Shahrukh Khan were printed out and circulated by airport staff at Heathrow in London.

However, the Transport Secretary's assurances were demolished after it was revealed on the BBC's Jonathan Ross show Friday that Indian actor Shahrukh Khan had passed through a body scan and later had the image of his naked body printed out and circulated by Heathrow security staff.

So what is up with that shitty green police Audi ad? The world depicted there is every eco-progressives dream, which is of course a nightmare for the rest of us who have common sense.

And the "controversial" Tebow ad turned out to be rather low key and even comical. Much ado about nothing.

Ok. Thanks dudes.

I'll just get a new Prius and drive it into a wall and sue Toyota, then I can buy whatever kind of new SUV I want.

Member I thought the ad was funny, it seemed to be poking fun at enviro-nazis.

Andy,

If it was me, I would bite the bullet and finance a better car.

The problem with over 100K cars is that even if the major items like the engine and tranny are in good shape, the little stuff like shocks, wiper motors, power steering pumps, gaskets, etc. are all reaching or have exceeded their design limits and are starting to fail.

In other words, a car like this can nickel and dime you to death. Unless you do your own work labor costs, even for small repairs, can really mount up over time. .

Add in the reliability risks and a lower mileage vehicle would be my choice.

I don't have anything to say about the Explorer, other than people I have known who had them liked them.

"Much ado about nothing."

So why did FOTF mislead people about the content?

I don't believe anyone was mislead about anything. It's just that the pro-abortion side got their panties in a bunch over this ad prematurely.

Wait Wisi, was Payton really an option for the Green Bay job? That's the first I heard about that.

Andy,

Get last April's issue of Consumer Reports, or wait until early March to get the new one. It's their annual Auto Issue, and has a treasure trove of info, including how to negotiate the best price, frequency-of-repair records (the REAL barometer), models to avoid at all costs, and good values in all price ranges, broken down by the price range.

Good luck!

When looking at mileage on a car it's best to know what kind of miles it has on it. If somone is commuting 70 miles a day and it's all highway, those miles may not necessarily be all that bad. Again, with that said, Explorers tend to fall apart with age.

Americans are once again being conditioned to accept the sight of troops patrolling the streets and dealing with domestic law enforcement issues under the pretext of National Guard soldiers "helping" recovery efforts after the deluge of snow that has hit the East coast, the same soldiers who just months ago were also "helping" authorities to brutalize innocent people during the G20 summit in Pittsburgh.

"In the aftermath of the weekend's storm, hundreds of National Guard members have been helping Pittsburgh's emergency personnel respond to residents' needs; and beginning tonight, they're also going to be patrolling some city streets," reports KDKA.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette also reported that Gov. Ed Rendell dispatched the troops to deal with all manner of calls that would normally be handled by police, including "domestic disputes". A very dangerous precedent is being set in acclimation.

"I don't believe anyone was mislead about anything."

Huh? Initial reports were that mom was going to speak about her decision.

Posted here a couple of days ago, but still hilarious:

Andy,

Also, keep in mind while the quality of American cars has been getting closer to the Toyotas and Hondas in recent years (generally speaking), the older the car, the greater the gap.

Thank you all! Dan good advice on the frequency of repair records. I'll continue to scour google for info.

Andy, Celisary was selling one but the seat had a big blow hole in it.

Wait Wisi, was Payton really an option for the Green Bay job? That's the first I heard about that.

I remeber his name being brought up at the time along with Lovie Smith? (Or someone else w.o head coaching experience. I think the Packers dragged their dicks and he took the N.O. job before they made a decision. I'll do some investigating.

I already have one good article line up to post in the back page tomorrow. It's a good one, very controversial. Don't miss it.

"keep in mind while the quality of American cars has been getting closer to the Toyotas and Hondas in recent years "

People still buying that crap?

You get what you pay for, always have. Somehow people have this idea that all American cars are K cars. All cars will have the same issues with age, there are such things a wear parts. I have had 5 American cars that went over 200,000 without an engine or tranny and i beat the crap out of them, my toyota had an engine at 70,000, it's all luck of the draw and how well it was treated. The import vs. domestic is all bull.

Tax:
In 2006, the Green Bay Packers disposed of coach Mike Sherman. The team targeted several potential replacements, two of which are coaching against each other in the NFC Championship game this weekend.

Those men are Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress and New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, who were joined by Mike McCarthy, current Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips, and then Packers defensive coordinator Jim Bates as candidates for the Packers head job.

www.totalpackers.com

If i were you i would look for a luxury make(Lexus,Lincoln,Cadillac), the quality is superior and the values are not any more then a comparable entry level brand.

"People still buying that crap?"

Only the ones who have done the raw testing for decades, and those who can read the results.

I guess that leaves you out on both counts.

"Only the ones who have done the raw testing for decades, and those who can read the results."

For those that know there is no legitimate source for that kind of info. Consumer reports is a joke and magazines like car and driver or motor trend do not reflect reality. Most other reporting agencies that look at that kind of stuff do not differentiate between problems and taste(road noise, fit, paint ext.) They also do not take into account the additional cost of repairs on many imports.

ANDYUHENET: 2 1/2 years I bought a '01 Crown Vic Police Interceptor with 120,000 miles on her. Paid $4,000 and put another $2200 into it. So far I've put 80,000 miles (now at 200,000 miles) and the car is running great. I hope of get to 250,000 before replacing. The money I've not spent on financing the car is being set aside each month ($300) so I will be paying cash for the next car.

As mentioned by another, it depends on how vehicle was used. This one was an Iowa State Police car as as such most of its miles were cruising I-80.

Wow. New Orleans truly got lucky.

I drove nothing but GM in the 80's and 90's. Junk.

Yeah, I always liked the guy. I guess it could be worse for us. We could have Chilly on the side lines....

But if you like reports like that

( out of the 20 worst 9 are imports.

It does not mean anything.

"For those that know there is no legitimate source for that kind of info. Consumer reports is a joke"

You're a moron. CR is the one, unbiased reference out there. They accept no advertising, and pay for all the products they test. Their tests are consistent, and regarding the very few subjective comments, those are done by long-term pros in the business of comparing and contrasting autos. In contrast, Motor Trend, for example, sells its "Motor Trend Car of the Year" moniker.

I have a 96 Toyota forerunner with 230,000 miles at the farm, built like a brick shithouse. Had a 2000 GMC Sierra with 180,000 and it totally rusted out, the forerunner has hardly any rust.

This War on Toyota is this year's H1N1 hoax scare panic. The fact is Toyota has had problems, but the U.S. government (owner of GM and Chrysler) is going out its way to pound Toyota to help Obama UAW buddies.

Even if Toyota loses customers, they'll probably buy Hondas or other Jap brands.

I wish GM, Chrysler, and Ford could earn market share on their own merrit instead of being pussies and asking the Feds to sink Toyota.

Wow. New Orleans truly got lucky.

Well then, I hope New Orleans used protection.

"I drove nothing but GM in the 80's and 90's. Junk."

lets see,
83 murcury zephyr 190,000 before i sent it away(still running)
76 f250 rebuilt 460 at 150,000 done poorly lost a rod at 190,000
79 zephyr z7 180,000 before motor swap(went to a 302 the straight six still ran like a champ)
84 Thunderbird 200,000 i took the motor out for my z7 put a nother 30,000 on it before it started getting tired, still runs)
89 bronco 160,000 no issues yet
89 taurus about 200,000 before mice ate up the wiring and we did not fix
93 taurus 175,000 rand fine till a hose blew and it popped a head gasket did not fix
94 taurus 200,000 had a tranny at 150,000 ran to 220,000 or so before i just got rid of it
93 Lincoln mark viii 170,000 still runs like a champ just waiting to have the engine pulled due to body damage(engine slated for z7)
1997 mark viii 100,000 no issues yet
1999 Lincoln continental no issues yet

Only import i have owned had an engine at 70,000 miles

That still does not mean anything.
It is all about how well you care for something.

Kind of a back handed way to help UAW as some of the very recalled models are made in the Toyota/GM Cali plant that's a UAW Local 2244 shop?

Gobama!

:(

RON KARATE - the 2001 does have catalytic converters. Love the Blues Brothers, but this car I got for my wife as she is on the road a lot for her work and I wanted her to have a solid sage platform. NOTE: She immediately after purchase had me remove the spotlight :(

Only unbiased if you pay to advertise.

Doh.

I had a 93 Explorer,(V6 4.0) and it hade it to 146K. I've now got a 2000 F150 (V8 5.4)with 268K on it, and it's still going strong. The Triton series of engines that Ford came out with in the late 90's was based on the Pinto engine (2.3 liter) design. Overhead cam, with a timing belt , instead of metal gears. They put two of them on the same crankshaft and voila! 4.6 Triton V8.Increased the bore and added a bit of stroke and came out with the 5.4 Triton. Added an extra cylinder per side and had the V10. Damned good engines, too.

OK, so we all have our guilty pleasures:
This is one of mine:

The trick is do your own research, and that is a lot more involved the consumer reports.

Gee...a site with ONE complaint, and a "sour grapes" page.

"Even they don't believe that."

Link?

"4.6 Triton V8.Increased the bore and added a bit of stroke and came out with the 5.4 Triton"

Not quite, similar platform but not the same engine. The term modular is based on the plant using changeable modulus to switch which one they are making.

My Lincolns both use the dohc 4.6 and it is a magnificent motor.

"The trick is do your own research"

Riiiiiiiiiiight. Buy ten cars, set up a test track, test all ten exactly the same, check the reliability with every mechanic in town, and then...guess.

Me, I let the pros do all that, and I read the results.

We've got trucks with 4.6's in them, but I don't recall them being dohc. SOHC, one per cylinder bank.

Me, I let the pros do all that, and I read the results.

Yup, ask the hispanics down the street.

Sal, how did you get the V8 in the Merc?

" Buy ten cars, set up a test track, test all ten exactly the same, check the reliability with every mechanic in town, and then...guess."

If every consumer did that kind of thorough research for every product they purchase there wouldn't be a need for government regulation.

Vegas has already released its odds for Super Bowl XLV,

1. Colts: 13-2
2. Saints: 7-1
3. Cowboys: 15-2
4. Patriots: 17-2
5. Chargers: 15-2

Fords suck. OK, they don't but I have a Chevy Tahoe and a Dodge Stratus so I have to currently root for GM, I guess. Nissan has great products, too, had a Pathfinder well over 200K until it crapped out up in Canada, and got me stuck there for a few days because of 9/11. The Tahoe is great, highly rec'd. The Vortec V8 is easily improved with performance exhaust and cold air intake. If one wants an Explorer, take a look at something slightly bigger. Gas mileage is about the same, mine gets about 20 on the highway with the modifications and over 100K miles. The options available on the GMs are preferable over those on the Ford (IMHO). I had a longbed 150, but the turning radius was about the size of Montana. The Tahoe reduces that to Wyoming. Best bet is to go drive a bunch of trucks. The reality is you'll buy what you can afford and can find locally.

I think Atlanta at 30-1 may be worth it. The Saints have a lot of players whose contracts are expiring (including Sharper). Moreover, Reggie, while an excellent decoy, will not be around to collect the $8 mil he is due. So I wouldn't be surprised if the Saints re-tool and the Falcons win the South next season.

I would like the Cowboys but I don't trust their coaching and I think Romo is mentally fragile. Plus, I don't want to see them play in the Super Bowl when they are hosting it because it would make Jerry Jones happy.

"OK, so we all have our guilty pleasures..."

Cool.

Saw Genesis in '73 and a third of the show was Supper's Ready....saw 'em again in '75 doing The Lamb...both great shows.

Sal, how did you get the V8 in the Merc?

The zephyr is a fox body, the same platform as the mustang. It was a pretty easy swap and with a few bolt ons i was looking at about 220 horsepower in a 2500 pound car, it moved and got around 25mpg with the aid tranny. i can't wait to get the 290 horsepower 4.6 dohc aluminum block out of one of my marks in it, it will really scoot.

"We've got trucks with 4.6's in them, but I don't recall them being dohc. SOHC, one per cylinder bank."

Some Lincoln trucks and suv came with the doch as did mustang cobras the continental and the mark viii.

80 billion for a new "jobs" bill, uh huh, sure, right, seen this movie before, what a fucking retard

"Me, I let the pros do all that, and I read the results."

And i assume you let them tell you which is the most comfortable, which will suit your needs best and which one has the "gotta have it" factor. You can test drive as many as you want, you can talk to owners, you can look at many different sources online including owners forums. Then apply a little common sense and then you might have an idea of what you are doing. One persons word that is often about preference is not enough to make an informed decision.
I am biased toward American and European manufacturers dues to the lack of other manufactures making a car that suits me. I don't do front wheel drive, i don't do 4 bangers and i don't do tiny.

It's Ralm's fault

. I don't do front wheel drive, i don't do 4 bangers and i don't do tiny.

why don't you do front wheel drive?

"I don't do front wheel drive, i don't do 4 bangers and i don't do tiny."

Are you a real Murikin?

"why don't you do front wheel drive?"

I like to play.
I like to drive through twisties at high speed.
I hate torque steer.
I don't like loosing control on corners and not being able to correct.

FWD put the strain of steering and drive on the same bit of rubber that is not ideal. In an emergency in a RWD car you give it more throttle and steer out of the situation. In a FWD you have no choice but to go straight and if you let of the throttle you can whip the rear end around and spin. Also in a rwd drive car with adequate power the three point turn is not necessary(except in front of the police.)

"Are you a real Murikin?"

If i am going to spend a decent portion of my life in a car i might as well enjoy myself. My wife's car is FWD, a Lincoln continental, still has the 4.6 dohc but even so it is nowhere near as fun to drive.

" I had a longbed 150, but the turning radius was about the size of Montana."

Try my 1976 f250 quad cab, i don't even think you can turn it. Actually i have had to use it to set up booths at home shows, it barely fits down the isle and between it's poor turning radius and the trailer it make for some hairy moments.

But my bronco has a great turning radius. I am a ford guy and i will dish the insult to the chev and dodge guy but i will admit they make a fine product as well.

I saw them once, the tour right after Peter left. 1976 I think, I was in high school.

Later dorks, off to watch the Saints parade.

Oh when the Saints, come marching in, oh when the Saints come marching in...

"Oh when the Saints, come marching in, oh when the Saints come marching in..."

By wed the whole state will probably be sick enough of that song to ban it.

if you don't miss bitching about him then why is this thread so popular?

do you miss his ability to make unpopular decisions like the surge in '07?

good thing pelosi and BO didn't get their way.... but at least now they can claim responsibility for ending the war...

Story of the Day. Warren Buffet RIPPING the governments running of fannie and Freddie. He said the stigmatization of 'bankers' (obviously taking a direct shot at obama) was insincere if it ignored how the gov ran these to companies into the ground....with 40 times leverage'

And he ripped the gov watch dog that gave them a clean bill of health sept 2008!

"Independent voters see Pres. Obama in a negative light by a nearly 2-1 margin, according to a new Marist College survey, while almost half of voters say he has failed to meet their expectations.

The poll, conducted Feb. 1-3, showed just 44% of registered voters approving of Obama's job as president. 47% disapprove. But among indie voters, Obama's approval rating sits at a terrible 29%, while his disapproval rating is at 57%.

Obama's 44% job approval rating is the lowest he has scored in any non-internet poll since moving into the WH, according to a review of data compiled by Pollster.com."

Basically the cover that the press gave Obama for his lack of experience is now wearing off. They see thier ratings die - as more people see how biased the "major" channels are as well as the Press (NY Times, Wash Post)

You will see Obama fall to his core 30% (people like Spud, Danni, Betelg) that will stand by him no matter what it means to the country and the DEMS swepted out of power.

This pollhas been up for three weeks. Be sure to vote and see the results. (Hint: 4% gave Obama an 'A') Come on 4%er's vote and vote often. (Shhhhhh, the F's are plentiful)
