After a Tea Party convention speech in which she mocked President Obama for his use of a teleprompter, Sarah Palin referred to the notes written on her hand during the Q&A sesson that followed her remarks. The notes read, "Energy", "Tax" and "Lift American Spirits."

I used to think Sistah Sarah was a clown. After this, she's slipped down a new pegs to "aspiring clown."

The only thing funnier on this thread will be Palinistas showing up -- if they dare -- to whinge, "But why do you keep posting Palin threads?"

Sarahman will be here any second...

ff!

The words "Energy", "Tax" and "Lift American Spirits" are clearly visible.

Are those concepts/points so complicated she actually had to write them on her palm?

On the other hand, that explains her "3 things" answers throughout the night.

I know folks have about reached Palin-saturation, but I don't care if you're right-wing, left-wing, broken-wing, dead duck, or roadkill, if you can't find humor in this, you have no soul.

What anyone takes away from this latest (dare I say it?) faux-pas is up to their individual political bent, but if we've all been misled by a "charismatic black man with a teleprompter" what defensible parallels can be drawn about a "charismatic white woman with dirty hands" :)))

Sorry guys and gals, I'm still rolling on the floor over this, and I'd be doing the same regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, sexual preference or political leaning.

Funny is funny.

Sarah Palin, still werking hard to make the life of SNL's skit writers a breeze.

I used to think Sistah Sarah was a clown. After this, she's slipped down a new pegs to "aspiring clown."

a) 3 "notes to self" for a 45 min speech . . . that's not too bad!

b) no teleprompter . . . a plus!

c) no Greek colums . . . also a plus!

d) Drew Brees used 'em

e) Manning don't need 'em

One of the more predictably funny features of the DR consists of the whines from wingnuts that customarily attend the posting of a Sistah Sarah thread. I still don't know if their discomfort comes from a need to defend her or a growing awareness that she is fully capable of dragging them even farther down into the pit of political hell than even Bush managed.

Either way, it's a hoot -- and not least because she clearly never met a flashbulb or studio light she didin't love.

DOC, that's some funny she-ite!

Notes on the hand are no big deal. It's the fact that she had to put 'broad ideas' in her crib sheet.

If she can't remember where she stands on the issues, then she has bigger problems than we know.

the teleprompter is just a little to hi tech for the little lady from alaska

She looked at her hand during the QA.....

Not only are those things supposed to be her core beleifs, but she already knew the questions in advance. Does SARAH! have any fucking idea what she beleives in?

Whenever I had to speak before large audiences, I had a couple words/phrases written down to remind myself of the order/flow. Because of this I have spoken t repeated briefings (FOIA, Privacy act, etc.) to audiences [as big as 700 at a time in the base theater] of military and civilians and each time it was different except the order. This included taking and answering questions from the audience at the end.

I have no problem with her having a few notes - as opposed to your prez who has entire speeches he READS to the public, and they are not even his own words. Which of the two is more pathetic as a public speaker??? --You figure it out.

It is not uncommon for a speaker that is not reading a speech written by someone else to have bullet points at a podium. Not sure why people on the left make every attempt to make fun of her. It is really rather poor taste

Does SARAH! have any fucking idea what she beleives in?

Well she can't blurt out "Keeping my maw in the spotlight for as long as the stupid are willing to give me $100K for doing so." now can she?

It is not uncommon for a speaker that is not reading a speech written by someone else to have bullet points at a podium.

Well it is a matter of hypocrisy for criticizing the President for using a teleprompter.

"Not sure why people on the left make every attempt to make fun of her. It is really rather poor taste"

You put yourself in the limelight then you are fair game. You want to write simple words on your hand because your mind can't hold that much information at one time, expect to be laughed at.
Knowing Sarah, she probably didn't even write the words herself.

Seriously, You are going to compare bullet points to a speech on a teleprompter. Ever take a public speaking class in college? It is a lot easier to read a speech than to speak to a crowd with just bullet points.

you would think for $100,000 she could have prepared and memorized some stuff

Would it have been better if she'd either read from a teleprompter or have read off notes? That she wrote crap on her hand is more juvenile-looking, but effective nonetheless, no?

"she wrote ... on her hand"

I'll bet all those criticizing Palin on these posts have never given a speech with just a brief outline on their hands--- in fact, I'll bet they've never given a speech--they don't have a clue how difficult it is. Any clown can speak off a teleprompter compared to ad libbing it-- I would love to watch Obama give one without notes or a teleprompter--then and only then feel free to criticize Palin after seeing how your hero does.

I have had to present on a number of occasions. I either had a deck, notes or spoke from memory. I prepared for all of them. Writing on your hand is a reflection of not properly preparing and being unprofessional.

Of course Obama would read off of teleprompters LIKE EVERY OTHER PRESIDENT IN RECENT HISTORY. Would you prefer he spent all day memorizing it? Reagan was the former actor not Obama. (and Reagan used the teleprompter)

Bush used cards and fucked it up anyway.

MSgt, if you ever gave a speech you would realize you use prepared notes. (or teleprompter for a president). Not just a couple of words jotted down. I would love to hear that you spoke on a subject for 30 minutes that would be analyzed by millions and you just jotted a few words.

I think he did give one recently in the Q&A after the State of the Union but that is not really a policy speech. Most of Obama's speeches are off teleprompters. You generally have to be more informed on a topic when you give a speech with bullet points as opposed to reading a speech written by someone else. He is not the first politican to have speech writers so it is hardly rare

I do it every day from setting up the foundations to meetings. Running milestone reviews. To conference call status updates. Most are done from memory but on a topic that is ongoing work. When clarity is needed there are presentations.

Why the fuck do you consider the president MEMORIZING a speech something critical. Aside from you who fucking cares if he memorizes or not. It is the content and the delivery which are important. Obviously whatever the president says in a formal setting is important, every word. It is a crafted message. Why take a chance on making a mistake? Why are you such a clueless dipshit? Let's hear your excuse muppett.

I don't really see how you can defend using a teleprompter when Obama was talking to school kids. You would think he could speak to them without a prepared speech. I spoke to college students about careers and had no idea what I was going to say 5 minutes before I walked in the room.

Furio. There is no reason to use vulgar language to express your opinion. It doesn't make your argument any more convincing and calling people names is rather immature. I mean really do you talk like that at home.

President's words are chosen very carefully. Bush read from typed speeches on a podium or a teleprompter. That Obama prefers to read them off of teleprompters doesn't make him unique in recent history.

Typed speeches use large fonts that require a lot of page turning. You don't have that problem with a teleprompter. The type is large and advances as needed. It's a matter of 'paper or plastic', really.

My point, clueless, was the irrelevant partisan criticism on this thread when on the other side of the ledger you have a guy that I've never seen give a speech without notes or a teleprompter--that's my point, INFERIOR.

Conference calls and meetings are not the same as giving a speech in fron of any audience. I will give you presentations are similar to giving speeches but the other two are not even close.

Geez, you guys, haven't you ever met a multi-tasking Mom? We used to make fun of one of my former co-workers for exactly the same thing. She's a statistical consultant with a master's in Biostat, and frequently wrote on her hand to remind her of grocery lists, where and when to pick up kids, consulting appts, etc.

He wore a wire.
That's the Lojack joke for those who were here then.

People, like inferior, use vulgar language when they can't engage in rational thought processes--and when they don't know how to express themselves maturely.

If you watch the video of the speech itself, Ms. Palin actually does use notes throughout the 40 minutes, as any well-prepared speaker might. The criticism is that she had to make notes for what was obviously a scripted Q & A - she wrote those to answer one longer question in particular.

There's nothing more inherently wrong with using a teleprompter than there is in using prepared notes, and politicizing such a trivial matter is evidence of how low the dialogue about our government has sunk. I would think the real outrage should come from the fact that we as citizens allow ourselves to be treated as idiots - looking the other way and pretending that most of those Q & A sessions are 'real' and not just more carefully tended image-making. I believe that's true no matter what party affiliation the speaker has. I believe we have the right and responsibility to respectfully ask the difficult questions and receive respectful, honest answers. And I believe that, as it stands, none of us are winning, no matter who we manage to tear down.

Really is that so? We have a Vice President that has been re-elected to the US Senate for several terms yet he did not know that FDR was not President in 1929 nor that FDR's fireside chats were on radio NOT tv.. I would submit that Vice President Biden should be aware of the the circumstances of major events in 20th Century American history. I have heard Dems make excuse after excuse for Biden's gaffe's and incorrect statements. Is it OK because he is a Dem ? I heard people complain about Palin because of McCain's age and she would be a step away from the White House. Biden is a step away from the White House and according to the bloggers,Obama has received more death threats than any other President. I don't know if this is true but Dems seem to think it is.

"I have no problem with her having a few notes - as opposed to your prez who has entire speeches he READS to the public, and they are not even his own words. Which of the two is more pathetic as a public speaker??? --You figure it out."

I'm sure this has been said, but um, dude. Have you ever given a long speech--say, more than 30 seconds? Professional speakers and trainers of speakers will tell you that notes and sometimes entire speeches are quite common. I have never understood this criticism of any politician using a teleprompter. Never. Memorization is not the key to quality oration (and I'm not suggesting that one of these people displays quality oration and the other doesn't (ahem) ); delivery is. I'd bet big money that Winston fucking Churchill had notes or a copy of the speech in front of him every time he delivered.

And by the by, how do you know Obama doesn't write his own speeches? I don't know that he does, but how do you know he doesn't?

And by the by, you do know that pretty much all presidents and even lesser political lights have their speeches written or partly written by others, right? Ever heard of Ronald Reagan? And a wordsmith by the name of Peggy Noonan? Yeesh.

Hey, look! I didn't even mention Palin! I mean... Oops.

As serious as the sore on your wife's labia.

Since the day he was sworn in, Obama has had "50 STATES" written on his palm...

Since Ari was 18, she has had her rates written on her ass.

as opposed to your prez who has entire speeches he READS to the public,

Seems to me he kicked the GOP Congressmens' asses pretty well speaking off the cuff. As opposed to, say, Dubya who became incoherent every time he wandered from the teleprompter.

But Palin comes by it honestly-apparently her mentor, McLost, suspended his campaign, flew to DC, called an emergency meeting to discuss the economic collapse and said absolutely nothing. Even had Cheney laughing at him. That would be scary.

Funny, funny, funny. The Huffnpuff post has another anti-Palin article. After admitting that she can give a speech by merely having prepared remarks, unlike Teleprompter King Obama, they attempt to malign her because she as a few words to focus on during questions. How sad for the Huffnpuff, when this is the best they can do. Notice they cannot malign her speech nor her speaking ability, just cut an opinion piece about a few words on her hand. And of course right on cue the endearing Retort Palin-haters leap up to decry another Palin blunder. While so many of these silly libs cannot even write a legible sentence, they are quick to judge Palin. Leave it to the Huffnpuff to assign each day the liberal talking points for the liberal Retorters. Otherwise they wouldn't know what the fuck to talk about. Good little libbies. Sit. Speak. Roll over. Talk trash about Palin. Good boys.

After admitting that she can give a speech by merely having prepared remarks

She didn't just have "prepared remarks", she had the whole speech in notes in front of her. The difference between that and a teleprompter is looking outward vs looking down, shuffling notes - which she did constantly. I know because it annoyed the hell out of me. Worse yet, she wasn't prepared enough to deliver what was written and before her. She'd get going, lose her place, then realize she had one of those "gotcha" snark moments and her voice would rise, become piercing.

Then there was the Q&A with the hand.

This after she mocked Obama for using a teleprompter.

If you don't see humor in all that (irony, hypocrisy) then you're too far gone.

"Just to be clear: The notes most likely weren't for her speech, for which she used *prepared remarks*, but for the Q&A session that followed, during which she glanced at the hand in question."

Regardless, there is a big difference in reading notes and reading one's speech word for word from a teleprompter. Every speaker requires notes for speeches more than a few minutes long. But no one in the history of the world has required the use of a teleprompter for practically every public appearance. Obama even uses them for remarks to the press. Pitiful. Obama has become a laughing stock. Palin has too, but Obama is supposed to be the grand, great orator, able to move the masses with his speeches. Instead he's ridiculed internationally for great teleprompter skills. And the left just keeps on loving every well read speech. Talk about going too far. Watch out if Obama suddenly backs up.

It's actually quite fun to wander through the various web sites dealing with telepromptergate. The teleprompter has it's own blog, and it's own presidential seal.

And the pathetic obsession continues....

I'm not sure which is funnier, Palin having notes written on her hand OR Obama having teleprompters speaking to elementary school kids OR Obama the brilliant law professor repeatedly mispronouncing Navy Corpsmen as Corpse-men in his prepared remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast.

I vote for the elementary school. That picture showing him there in all his teleprompter glory was priceless.

Dude, Sister Sarah HAD to read basic right wing talking points from her hand!?!? It's OBVIOUS! She's a maroon!!! You want to dig on President Obama? I suggest you look at how he whopped the repbubs last week or any of his townhalls, but, surely, if you're on DR, you KNOW the power of the Internet and the power of the FACTS that it shows. But, defending Sister Sarah on this truly shows what a PWT you truly are. She's pathetic and, apparently, so are you!

LKT,

Why couldn't he "whopped" the elementary school kids?

BTW, where in my post did I defend "Sister Sarah"? I just said your hero is even lamer.

Sorry, SO[B], Sister Sarah is the lamer one. In fact, she's the lamest of them all. You want to bring up teleprompters? Old girl had to use a telepalmter to talk to her diehard worshippers who cheered for her saying crap like "We win. We don't lose!" In response to some softball question from these loon teabaggers about our nation's security. The President of the United States of America on the other hand has to deal with the reality of the so-called "liberal media" analyzing every fart he squirts out to have it analyzed. I don't blame him for having prepared remarks to discuss an important issue like education reform. If only Sister Sarah could be a beneficiary of such an initiative like using a teleprompter (but then again, she probably can't read) or taking on an endeaver like reading 464 times from her prepared remarks vs the 463 times she did for the insane teabagger audience so she won't come off sounding/looking like such a dolt...never mind, she is what she is!

You want to dig on President Obama? I suggest you look at how he whopped the repbubs last week or any of his townhalls.

Your kidding right. His townhalls that were all televised did not to improve his approval ratings nor did the American people buy his lame explainations of health care reform.

In the end the only results that matter are elctions and legislation. He has not managed to get helathcare reform passed or cap and trade. As for elections, he campaigned for Coakley, Corzine, and the loon in Virgina and they all lost. Not very impressive

geez..i'll play... so what if i hie a speech writing aide to write out in speech form what i that aid knows i believe?

i check it over and it's true to my beliefs, my message.

i could hire Tater of or number of other here to write my retorts, are they any less true [to myself]?

what Sister Sarah and you who defend her don't get is that what you believe is fine just don't try to make your beliefs my civil duty and threaten me with criminal punishment and/or death if i do not conform.

that makes ME a cicil Libertarian and YOU a gliberatarian fascists or Nazi.

Considered one of the first flags of the United States, the flag was later replaced by the current Stars and Stripes (or Old Glory) flag. Since the Revolution, the flag has seen times of reintroduction as both a symbol of American patriotism and as a symbol of disagreement with the government.

For instance, unofficial usage of the Gadsden flag by the U.S. government has been seen, particularly in the wake of September 11, 2001, most notably by the Customs Service and harbor patrol boats in U.S. ports and individuals serving abroad in the U.S. military. The First Navy Jack, which was directly related to the Gadsden flag, has also been in use by the U.S. Navy, and since the terrorist attacks it is flown on all active naval ships. The rattlesnake from the flag is shown on the U.S. Army's Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.

yeah, call me a LIB if ya like. call me a Libertarian and call me socialist, whatever. but don't ever call call me anything other than American.

what Sister Sarah and you who defend her don't get is that what you believe is fine just don't try to make your beliefs my civil duty and threaten me with criminal punishment and/or death if i do not conform

Ichiro I find you comment very interesting in light of the recent healthcare debate. You said don't try to make your beliefs my civil duty and threaten me with criminal punishment if I don't conform. The Democrats in Congress were proposing to force ALL US citizens to purchase healthcare and thoser that didn't would be fined or sent to jail for up to five years

"I would love to watch Obama give one without notes or a teleprompter--then and only then feel free to criticize Palin after seeing how your hero does.'

Guess you missed the last 3 Obama talks, the first was handing the GOP their ass (no teleprompter)GOP was sorry they televised it, FOX cut it off 20 min early. This teleprompter talking point has been ridiculous and actually makes the right out to be fools. It's in the vein of the silly "messiah" talking point.

By the way, the press made note on how uncomfotable Sarah was as she read her notes.

I have a great deal of trouble understanding the problem here.

WHo cares if her notes are written on her hand, notecards, a teleprompter, or in twenty foot high letters in the back of the room.

It is nearly impossible to give a speech for any length of time without a few notes to jog your memory.

This could not be more of a non-issue.

I'm guessing this retarded trick got her through high school and the many "institutions of higher learning" she attended.
Does anybody here think she might have cheated her way to her low 'C' average as she metriculated through half a dozen colleges?

I don't believe Hawaii Pacific University, North Idaho College, University of Idaho, or Matanuska-Susitna College are ranked among the most academically challenging or rigorous institutions in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Speaking of which, where are Sistah Sarah's college transcripts?

don't believe Hawaii Pacific University, North Idaho College, University of Idaho, or Matanuska-Susitna College are ranked among the most academically challenging or rigorous institutions in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

The majority of college educated Americans do not go to Ivy League insitutions. The fact that you think these colleges are sub-par because they are in the Northwest is systematic of elitism of the Northeast and a great reason why a liberal from the Northeast will never win another national election.

www.studentsreview.com

Hawaii Pacific U is in Honolulu HI for christs sake and nearly 50% of the students wouldnt return.

"The majority of college educated Americans do not go to Ivy League insitutions."

Who ever claimed they did? You think an institution has to be in the Ivy League in order to be academically challenging or rigorous? Don't be such an elitist.

"The fact that you think these colleges are sub-par because they are in the Northwest..."

Which, of course, is not what I said; are you sure they're "sub-par because they are in the Northwest"?

The point of the post was, Do you think Sarah cribbed her way thru HS and College.

And, Big Pun, the word you were looking for was 'symptomatic' not 'systematic'.

Considering your contribution to this thread, you do not make a strong case for the quality of the educational system which spawned you, regardless which geographic area claims you as alum.

I guess to a very dumb person, a moderately dumb person is an elitist.

And so? What is the problem with that? Maybe she uses a telepalmter instead of a teleprompter like the zero. Oops... I have no paper and need to remember this at the grocery store.... my palm will do. Are you libturds idiots? Never mind, answered my own question. LMAO.

Let's see, a few notes for a speech and media questions, or having to read, word for bloody word, the entire speech and comments to the media? While the "redneck teleprompter" is a very humorous term, it's only relevant because the grand orator that is our President cannot whisper sweet nothings in his wife's ear without his teleprompter. There would be nothing to rag Palin on if it weren't for Obama having his teleprompter for practically every public performance. So laugh if you will, but Obama and dingbats like those here on the left will continue to be ridiculed.

Oh. Right.

Oh right. Running the country into the ground.

Wrong again--that was for the media. The teleprompter was not used for talking to the kids. (sigh) And of course, you ignored my earlier argument. Typical.

Yeah, that's sort of the point. Who the hell needs a teleprompter to speak to the media? A speech is one thing, but remarks to the media. If you can't figure that shit out without having to read word for word prepared comments you shouldn't be sitting the in big chair. Even Sarah only needed a few words written on her hand. Obama is a farce.

No sorry systematic was the word I wanted to use. Thank you very much.

Your insults are rather childish. Then again judging from your posts that I have read it seems to be what you add to this website. You are like the kid in third grade who makes a funny comment that everyone laughs at but no one takes seriously. Good luck with that.

"So what does that make The Bushling?"

Does it matter? We're speaking of Sarah Palin and Obama. This is nothing more than another Bush deflection in order to hide the ineptness of the great Messiah Obama. As far as anyone one knows, Bush does not plan on running for president again. You'd think that after a year the Bush-bashers would move on. But oh well. If the best thing about Obama is that he's not Bush, the Democrats are in for a hurtin' come November.

So what does that make The Bushling?

I used to think Sistah Sarah was a clown. After this, she's slipped down a new pegs to "aspiring clown."

The only thing funnier on this thread will be Palinistas showing up -- if they dare -- to whinge, "But why do you keep posting Palin threads?"

You've just moved up a few pegs to "Palin Obsessed, Master level"

I have NEVER seen anyone so obsessed, that they would start bringing up things that really don't matter!

So what!??!

Are you that obtuse that just because the overly obsessed HuffPo posted the article that you follow like an idiotic lemming?

Doc, you think it's funny that she wrote something on her hand...

SO WHAT?

What's funny is that you think it's funny because your HuffPo tells you it is!!!

You idiots are just feeding the HuffPo like the idiots who feed FoxNews.

What's funny is that you post shit like this and don't realize how dumb you look!

Keep it up Doc, it's VERY entertaining.

Bwahaha. 1 dump and pottymouth has a case of the cowards.

Boy, you teleprompter critics can't get enough. And you keep trying different tacks. Who the FUCK cares if he uses a teleprompter? Seriously. If it helps get a clear message across, why is that bad? Let's see, back in the day, speech makers would carry their entire speech or their notes with them. Now we have technology to be able to look at the audience/into the camera rather than constantly looking down. This is a bad thing? Get. Over. It. Criticize the policies, engage in argument, sure; but why are you so worried about a teleprompter?

And Palin bashers? Why are you so interested in what she wrote on her hand? Who CARES? Myself, I think it's funny that she thought a single word would suffice to remind her of all the essential points, if in fact that's what she did. But hey, sometimes my lesson plans look like that. "Symbolism. Grammar. Writing genres." If she has in her head all the stuff to fill in (as I often do in mine), all the more power to her. Jeez, if you're gonna criticize her, how about this one, when asked about national security policy: "We win; they lose!" That's her _plan_? Brilliant. (And yes, that was the line she gave. And yes, I'm sure there was more context around it. This was a quick bit on NPR, and there was some less negative stuff too. It wasn't Palin-bashing, or the aspects that bashed weren't very hard-hitting.)

Bwahaha. 1 dump and pottymouth has a case of the cowards.

It is really sad that some people get off on being vulgar on the internet. It is really classless. Does it make your feel good questioning other people's intelligence. If anything it points towards your insecurities. I know nothing about state universities in the Northwest but I suspect people on the left will always look for things to ridicule Palin about. This will only add to her popularity. She is not going away and before you know it it will be November. I wonder how long after November Hillary resigns and begins her campaign for 2012

But she is unfit to be president...but a ignorant community org. ego mainiac who never did anything - oh yes..he is completely capable.

Don't you guys see how stupid you look critizing her? The left thought Reagan was stupid (but he won the cold war), Bush 1 was stupid (but he was arguably the best prepared person to be president), Bush 2 was stupid, But he got us out of recession in 1 year and had an average of less than 5% unemployment.

All the Conservatives are "stupid"...and all the lefties are 'brilliant"...like Carter who caused the upheaval in Iran (we have him to blame for nuclear Iran) said how great Chavez was (and now the whole electrical grid is failing in Venz. and the population is about to revolt), Clinton was Brilliant (for a coke head skirt chaser), and now Obama is Brilliant....but so far a failure at about everything.

Bush 2 was stupid, But he got us out of recession in 1 year and had an average of less than 5% unemployment.

Then led us into the worst recession since the Great Depression and left with unemployment @ 10%. BTW, unemployment when Bush was sworn in was 4%.

Got a pipeline built that has floundered for over 10 years

It isn't built. Palin's Pipeline to Nowhere

got a massive increase in revenue for Alaska

But, never saw fit to return the highest per capita Federal dollars sent to Alaska? I'll vote for her in the GOP primary. You betcha! If America forgets how f'd up Bush and GOP governance left this country, maybe we need a boot shoved up our collective national ass.
