The Patriots were accused and convicted, or did you forget the loss of the draft pick the next season?
Lets see.... Where steroid illegal in the 70's?...... thinking.......... NO, they were not, so therefor you cant compare the two. And you cant tell me that the Pats were not using steroids in the 70's.
If you can catch the Steelers using steroids now that they are illegal, you would actually have a valid point.
But please do try again.

Nice try...but bzzt! wrong answer. The rulebook makes NO mention of what can and can not be filmed. it DOES provide for where the camera can be placed. You can film the signals, the game, the cheerleader routines, how they enter the field. Whatever you like.
They were fined for a procedural error ONLY. That would be why Goodell said they gained no compettive advantage...the information is LEGAL. They violated a minor rule of camera placement.
Don't tell me that you are onbe of those "every violation of the rules is cheating" morons. Becuase if that is true, have fun calling at least 60 players fined for having their shirts untucked or other uniform violations "cheaters." I mean that is against the rules too right?
Have fun chewing on that a bit.
And if you can call the pats cheaters for obtaining legal information and yet ignore the blatant use of performance enhancing drugs, well then you are incapable of escaping your cognitive dissonance.
