A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, with 2 1/2 feet of snow piling up on roadways, toppling trees and leaving thousands without electricity. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation's capital in modern history.

Stay safe DC. Take your time digging out, we'll be fine with out you.

If only it could remain so in perpetuity. Gridlock is a wonderful thing in Washington.

One can only hope.

I heard the EPA had to postpone meetings on carbon regulation and global warming because of a big ass snow storm.

The irony is just lovely.

Irony? Because of a snow storm in the middle of winter? Yeah! So Ironic!

/sarcasm

There've been a couple of awesome storms here in Va the past two weeks.

Hoser,

How deep is the snow in Virginia now?

DC is getting clobbered with this new blizzard from all I've been reading.

Mostly sunny with a few scattered clouds for tomorrow on the west coast. Brutal, but somebody has to do it. 6-7 ft swells.

That is not fair for the capital to be way over on the east coast. They should move it to Lebanon, KS.

It's 9 degrees out right now.

It's getting pretty deep in Washington...

31" or something like that already. Yikes! In D.C. it's even more of a nightmare for the narrow streets and cars parked everywhere.

"RFK, Jr. 15 months ago: Global warming means no snow or cold in DC"

"In Virginia, the weather also has changed dramatically. Recently arrived residents in the northern suburbs, accustomed to today's anemic winters, might find it astonishing to learn that there were once ski runs on Ballantrae Hill in McLean, with a rope tow and local ski club. Snow is so scarce today that most Virginia children probably don't own a sled.

Meanwhile, Exxon Mobil and its carbon cronies continue to pour money into think tanks whose purpose is to deceive the American public into believing that global warming is a fantasy."

www.washingtonexaminer.com

How is this news?

Washington is paralyzed when there ain't no blizzard.

"Vancouver is set to register the warmest January on record with an average temperature more than twice as warm as normal, according to Environment Canada."

www.globaltvbc.com

'It's getting pretty deep in Washington...'

Hehe, better put yer boots on.

"an average temperature more than twice as warm as normal"

Not in Kelvin, I hope.

Considering the Snow Job of the past year....

I live in VA just outside of DC and taking a few readings in my neighborhood shows anywhere from 29-32 inches of snow....

Being from New England, generally I laugh at such amounts, but this amount of snow has managed to panic the entire region.

There was a run on banks to withdraw cash! Did they really think banks would collapse nationally for a localized weather event?

Idiots.

Good for Us! If the snow keeps the bureaucrats and lawmakers home, maybe our freedoms and our pocketbooks will be safe for at least one day!

That is not fair for the capital to be way over on the east coast. They should move it to Lebanon, KS.

I think there needs to be an Amber Alert declared for Algore! Where, O where, has little Al gone? Where, O where can he be?

Algore is trying to find a place to warm his hands. I suggest he stick them up his ass.

"In 2007, the most comprehensive report to date on global warming, issued by the respected United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, made a shocking claim: The Himalayan glaciers could melt away as soon as 2035."

ALERT>>> But the claim was rubbish, and the world's top glaciologists knew it. It was based not on rigorously peer-reviewed science but on an anecdotal report by the WWF itself.

Me, for reasons stated above.

At least the Secret Service didn't have a problem keeping an eye on the President this weekend.

YEAH!

Now if only we could harness all the WingDing Hot Air here on this Thread ----- Maybe then the "republican" governor of Virginia could actually keep the roads clear.

Yup, that's right. The "We are Pro Business" party so fucked up the simple task of plowing the roads that Virginias businesses had to shut down for several days!
Only a member of the "personally responsible" party could let his administration be so paralyzed by the unheard of event -------- of 8 inches of snow!

Is RedNeckVille making snow a partisan issue?

I hope the first lady is stocked up on certified organic Tuscan kale. If not, there will be hell to pay.

S: How will we know if the earth is better without us if we are not here? If a tree falls...

I submit the earth is better for humanity being here. Else, why have earth if it does no one any good. Its just a blob rotating in space.

Nature is always the predator on human life, to be harnassed for our good. Fire, Flood, Famine, we are borne naked and have to use our wits to survive. Nature will always survive and overtake humanity without constant harnessing of its resources and fury.

The part I like is "Twice as warm as normal."

I guess normal is 50f and now it is 100f. Shit!!! Could be normal is only 40f and now it is 80f. There ain't no way the average temp could be twice normal.

Not to one up you, but what if the norm is -10C and now its -20C? That's a lot of melty stuff, right?

Halelujah! God must be a Libertarian! Let's have more blizzards in D.C.!

"There ain't no way the average temp could be twice normal."

Vancouver temperatures average 3C in January.
en.allexperts.com

"It's quite possible this will be the warmest January. We're sitting at 7.1 Celsius for an average right now and it will take a lot of cooling to knock that down," said meteorologist David Jones.

The highest recorded average temperature for the month is 6.3 C, which was was set in 1983, 1994, 2003, and 2006. Since record keeping began in 1937 at Vancouver International Airport the average temperature in January has been 3.3 C.

www.vancouversun.com

Expressed in degrees C the temperature is 2.36 times normal.

The correct expression would be in Kelvin, of course.

Average since 1937 is then 276.46K and 280.26K is the January 2010 average. Of course that's an increase of 3.8C, while the planetary increase is just about 1C since the industrial revolution.

I have a picture of the Tantalus Range I took in July 1984. I wonder what it will look like next July?

At what point do you begin to lose faith, next year? The year after that?

No, the massive fraud that has been perpetuated ihere s by the think tanks funded by the planets biggest polluters to make gullible morons (see: yer mirror) believe that AGW doesn't exist.

"Studies that examine the effects of atmospheric greenhouse gases often focus on the possible dangers of climate change in the 21st century. However, a new study published on February 10, 2009 by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences indicates that climate change resulting from carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations is mostly irreversible for at least 1000 years after emissions stop."
