The Israelis are scared that Israel will cease to be a majority-Jewish state if Palestinians are treated equally in a one-state solution. The faux-Christian right subscribe to an odd End of Days scenario in which Jesus won't return unless the Jews hold Jerusalem (and possibly rebuild the Temple there).

They cynically support Israel wholeheartedly while in their heart of hearts they feel that the Israelis being mostly Jews will not be raptured when Jesus returns.

Te Israelis in return cynically foster this sentiment to the endless profit of both the US and Israeli MIC.

The rational of the founders as I understand it was to protect people of Jewish heritage and insure their future.

The existance of Israel does just the opposite. It makes jews the world over less secure.

There are more Jewish people living OUTSIDE Israel than inside and there always will be. The future of jewish people is assured regardless of whether or not Israel exists.

The price the people of the middle east AND the citizens of the USA has to bear to support this religious fantasy is too great.

Everyone in the World from all sides would be better off if there was no Israeli State in the middle east.

They are moving toward apartheid and the parallels to the South Africa Apartheid regime are quite similar. You know what happened to THAT regime.

The population of the region is predominately of Arab descent. Even in Israel proper the Arab population is about to become more than 50% of the population.

Barak is correct and so was Carter. The Israeli right is under the impression that the more they supress the Arab population the more they ensure the future of Israel. The opposite is true.

I am not jewish, so this is a guess on my part. The jewish people, having been a minority that was then systematically rounded up and murdered, have a real reason to not want to turn over control of their country to people that openly want to destroy them.

Now, perhaps all the people who want Israel to be destroyed and all jews to be wiped off the face of the earth will change their mind if the jewish people simply surrender Israel. Perhaps the leader of countries like Iran will wake up the next morning, acknowledge that the holocaust happened and that is was a bad thing.

Or, just maybe... and this is a bit of a stretch... if Israel stops being a jewish nation, it will degenerate into the same type of hell-hole as the rest of the middle east.
