Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Ten U.S. Baptist missionaries were charged with kidnapping Thursday for trying to take 33 children out of Haiti to a hastily arranged refuge just as officials were trying to protect children from predators in the chaos of a great earthquake. The Haitian lawyer who represents the 10 Americans portrayed nine of his clients as innocents caught up in a scheme they did not understand.

Earlier, Silsby expressed optimism about being released.

"We expect God's will will be done. And we will be released. And we're looking forward to what God is going to do," she told APTN before learning they would be charged.

That god...what a trickster.

That god...what a trickster.

Yeah, he really pulled a fast one on all those God-fearing Hatians. They never saw that earthquake coming. It may seem like a tasteless practical joke from here, but as they say, "God works in mysterious ways".

Innocents eh? All in Jeebus's name.

If I rob a bank tomorrow and give tithe, does it make it all right? God gets his cut.

A complete moral travesty of justice is in the works. Guess we got the answer to the other question. No, they will not allow alternative ways out of their contrived Katrina hellhole. Doctorswithoutborders planes being diverted multiple times was the first clue.

If they did the crime they should do the time. But too bad for them that they went down there as members of a church. If they were union members, Obama would have them home by now.

Sounds like a clear case of Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaptist sheep to me.

This is a no win situation for the WH.

Obama doesn't want to intervene if these people are guilty as hell but if most of them aren't then the media will report this to death 24/7.

These kids would have been exposed to things most Haitians will never see. Indoor plumbing, houses built with foundations, three meals a day

A legitimate missionary group that does anything with children would have been working very closely with the government. I don't know that the other 9 should get off so easily; they should have known that.

These kids would have been exposed to things most Haitians will never see.

...Like the inside of a Baptist church. Nothing really wrong with that if it was voluntary and legal, but apparently it was neither. Of course there will be some who believe the means is always justified by the end, especially when it comes to increasing the flock to do God's good work. The Moonies have been doing it for years. Hey, if it worked for them...

Maybe Bill Clinton can step up and help out here. He can call Al and get his plane fueled up and go get them?

Why should Obama or anyone in the US government even be involved at this point? It sounds to me like they just need good a lawyer. The Church can't afford this? Maybe they shouldn't be violating international laws if they can't defend themselves. That is what I do.

If I went to Haiti and violated the law and got arrested for it would you be asking Obama or Clinton or Al Gore to come save me?

Thought so.

Carry on.

Let them rot in a cell for 3-5. That will teach them.

no.

However, if the media ran it 24/7 painting you as a do-gooder caught up in a misunderstanding?

The WH can't ignore that as easily.

In any case, we intervened when Americans were actually convicted in North Korea just recently.

The Haitian lawyer who represents the 10 Americans portrayed nine of his clients as innocents caught up in a scheme they did not understand.

Thanks for sharing in your numerous posts where you live, workout, what ferry you take, the building you own.

Not that I endorse murder...like his child raping "prophet" Koresh did...I'm just saying he would be easy to track down...

LOL, I'm with ya on that one!

considering the haitian gov is pretty much impotent at this time, is it possible that the church goers tried to obtain the proper documents and were unable to due to the lack of gov/organization?

clearly their intentions weren't to sell these kids as sex slaves. And no, the ends don't justify the means. but regarding each and every individual child, the ones that DO have relatives to claim them apparently preferred for them to go with the church goers. if not, then there's a case, but i suspect, as this article indicates, that relatives, even parents of these children preferred that their kids get out of the hell hole.

if this is the case, then F the haitian gov. at the very least, they should let the church goers leave on bail while they 'investigate'.

and if they don't, I'd suspend all US aid.

the only details that would change my conclusion would be if the church goers indeed ripped these kids out of the hands of their parents. and i think that is a stretch.

somewhat similar situation with iran. regarding the damn hippie hikers. IF they are cia, then clinton's/the WH's actions thus far makes sense.

but if they aren't cia, which i suspect, the iranian gov didn't show any pcitures of evidence (like high tech equipment etc), or maybe they don't want to and are keeping it under wraps for internal investigation/replication.

similar conclusion, if the WH knows these are just stupid hippies thinking hiking on the iran/iraq border would be fun, then type to brandish that big stick just a little more. call it bully tactics, call it recklessness. but don't forget that the cold war didn't really start to turn until we dumped detente and started to confront the ruskies in political ways.

for every week that mr. imadinnerjacket keeps these hippies in captivity, a gov military building/outpost get flattened. yes, no shit that will quickly bring the water to a boil there. but it's either going to from the outside in, or the inside out. and regardless, lets speed up the process. call it warmongering.... i call it protecting our own.

and no we shouldn't have invaded iraq, but since we're there, lets make use of it's proximity.

*type=time*

This has nothing in common with the hikers.

There is no established "orphanage" they were taking these children to, no clear plan (that they admit to) as to where and how these these children would be cared for, no financing in place for anything.

Taking children from parents in and of itself clearly establishes they were/are NOT orphans.

At best, they are stupid, at worst, they planned to use or sell these children, either way stealing children and taking them to another country is criminal.

BAIL? So you think these people will return in good faith for hearings? Your assumptions about the intent of these actions; "clearly their intentions weren't to sell these kids as sex slaves" are just that. You have no basis for supporting these wakadoos!

online.wsj.com

They had no location, no clear plan other than her mission to "bring them to christ"!

Bible bangers don't get a free pass just cause they do stupid things in the name of religion!

You don't take children out of parents hands based on some false promises.

Her business here failed, home forclosed, several judgements outstanding...she was running away from her debts! NO BAIL!

How was she going to run an orhpanage? Sell a few to finance this operation?

Her business here failed, home forclosed, several judgements outstanding...she was running away from her debts! NO BAIL!

How was she going to run an orhpanage? Sell a few to finance this operation?

I think her accomplishments point towards only one direction where she would be in great company.......run for congress.

Amen!

Ironic she has no money but somehow has a live-in nanny? Can't take care of her own children but wants to take care of others?

good point tiger, I hadn't read up on her financial troubles in the past, indicating she would almost surely not beable to open and run one in the DR. I had only read tidbits of her 'plan'.

regardless, I don't think jail time is warranted. I think the gov has a few more pressing issues to focus on....
just ban them and be done with it.

but what about the hikers? i guess those details we'll never know so it's hard to conlclude either way. but what if we assume cia or not cia, what should be US policy?

Trying to save children from a horrible situation because of a corrupt local government. But, enough about New Orleans...

Your lack of compassion for good people in the hands of a pissed off corrupt government

Do you realize that the President of Haiti is really pissed off at all of the groups coming in and trying to save and adopt Haitian children?

He is really pissed about all the foreign meddling?

Do you really support this piece of shit?

Look, jackass, Louisiana solved their problem of a corrupt government and got rid of the Democrat legacy that has been running (ruining) the state for 70 years!!

The Haitians, sadly, don't have that advantage.

And a piece of shit like you wants to condemn innocent people because a piece of shit politician wants to set an example?

You're not only a jackass, you're the same kind of filth that supports these backward corrupt governments.

You don't take children out of parents hands based on some false promises.

#30 | Posted by tygersilver

There seems to be proof that parents were begging them to take them to D.R. to be educated and brought back at some time. One witness said.

Haitian Parents Say They Willingly Gave Kids to Detained Americans

Call me crazy.

"Prime Minister Max Bellerive told the Associated Press Sunday he was outraged by the group's "illegal trafficking of children" in a country long afflicted by the scourge and by foreign meddling."

Haiti official outraged by effort to remove children

I just think that this piece of corrupted shit is trying to make an example out of the Americans.

Yes, I think that Americans and Europeans are arrogant when they want to help starving children.

Arrogant to tell a leader of a country that "You aint doing it right, BRO!!!" A leader who is living in a palace while his people are living in the dirt with nothing to eat, no money, no job, no education, no medical care.

Arrogant!!!

They should be taught a lesson and Jackass should go down there and whip them everyday!!!

"The church group's own mission statement said it planned to spend only hours in the devastated capital, quickly identifying children without immediate families and busing them to a rented hotel in the Dominican Republic without bothering to get permission from the Haitian government. "

I'll agree with you that this is pushing it, but in an emergency, you save the children and then

This was the same shit that went on in New Orleans! People died because of paperwork.

It's sad.

What I see going on is that there is a huge mistrust between the people and the government.

But the lesson, here, is that you don't undermine the government no matter how bad it is.

Sometimes you just have to let it die....

regardless, I don't think jail time is warranted. I think the gov has a few more pressing issues to focus on....
just ban them and be done with it.

The Talibaptists who'd make children everywhere pawns for their "Christian" power games should do the time in a Haitian jug. And the timbelicilic remark that the kids will get to see their first indoor plumbing somehow reminds of St. Barbara Bush-the-mother telling New Orleans victims that Katrina brought them a better life. herm

this post is full of hate and ignorance.

Herm, are you being serious? Or, is this a joke?

#40 | Posted by herm

Herm,

The fact is that Katrina did bring them out of a cycle of poverty that a corrupt Louisiana government had kept them in for generations! 70+ years!!

It's sad how Katrina did it, but she did seem to come in and wipe the slate clean, unfortunately.

Katrina wasn't selective, though. My cousin lost her house in Lake View (I forget the name of the neighborhood). But it sat in 9 feet of water for 3 months. Destroyed!!! Insurance didn't cover it and she didn't have flood insurance. Hell, the last flood was in 1956 (I think).

But, the short answer is that the largest hidden slum in America, I think, was in the 9th ward. It was part of America that America forgot.

I remember, on our way to a conference, one time we pulled off the I-10 because one of the members in our party had to really "go". I-10, at that point is an over-fly, one very long bridge. We get to the end of the ramp and it seemed we were in another country. It was amazing the difference. We went into a large grocery store and it was like a store in a 3rd world country. We got a lot of stares. Everyone was watching us.

Sorry, but I've never experienced anything like that in the US.

regardless, I don't think jail time is warranted. I think the gov has a few more pressing issues to focus on....
just ban them and be done with it.

i was referring to the haitian gov...

I guess what I'm saying is that Katrina changed all of this and for you to question Mrs Bush is just ignorant!

Now to the hate part.

No Libs are hating these aid workers because they are Christians.

They are hating them and condemning them because they were stealing these children for their own enjoyment. Child Trafficking!

But, you are hating them because they are Christians! WTF? Are you crazy?

From your Faux news link

Issac Adrien, said he told the villagers their children would be educated at a home in the Dominican Republic so that they might eventually return to take care of their families.

This group did not even have a facility! I don't think people are just handing over offspring to any whitey passing by! Let's be honest, they had no good plan, no experience, no qualifications, no funding...what would happen when they run out of money? Just leave the children in the Dom. Rep.? Even if I assume for a moment they had good intentions (and that's a stretch) good intentions often cause disasterous results.

Perhaps that bus could have been put to better use bringing food and water to children instead of carting them away to who knows where for who knows what?

BTW, why do you hate them? Because their arrogant Americans and they embarrassed you?

#45 | Posted by tygersilver

Redneckville and Jackass have already made complete fools out of themselves by not first reading the articles and then spouting off our of hate for Christians.

So watch out before your own politically correct rules turn you into a hypocrite.

You see? You're not fighting me, you're fighting your own set of morals.

I may have posted something derrogatory in response to a post you left. My post was not in argument but over frustration because of the ignorance of the Libs and other Christian haters on this thread.

No one hates Christians. Those who say they are but act contrary to Christ's teachings about praying in a closet and not making a huge show out of it are another story ....

Let's understand that Haitians probably do have better uses for their limited resources than jug these "Christian" do-gooders. Let's also understand that taking helpless devastated orphans into the Baptist denomination does constitute a fate worse than death in many circles. Somebody talks about the benefits of Katrina and the Haitian quake and then accuses ME of not being serious? herm

Apparently Al Gore disagrees with you

There goes Haskell, again giving the kidnappers a pass for one reason only: they're Christian.

I calls em likes I sees 'em

These people were in a cycle of poverty that was never ending. It lasted for >70 years! Brought to you by your local corrupt politician (who happened to be Democrat).

Now they are not. New homes, jobs, education.

Katrina blew the lid off of this corruption.

However, you jackass! You really need to admit when someone proves you wrong, or just say nothing---that would probably be better. You are the one who brought it up about Katrina!

I was THERE! I witnessed it! Those people really are better off than before. It was sad to watch, but upsetting the cycle of poverty made their lives better.

You're just pissed off because someone you hate said it first! Suck it up!!!

Do you even realize what that environment in Haiti is like?

You, for sure, have no clue about New Orleans, so I doubt you know about the poor conditions of these childrens' environment.

Oh! I agree that they broke the law. That much is coming out (or is it?). But, holding them over for trial and keeping them in terrible conditions is all because of the contempt the aid workers have for that government.

This story will live for weeks and will be the "poster story" for why people are dying needlessly in Haiti.

Sad, but they are martyrs and, it's appearing they set out to do that. Or, they are milking this for all it's worth!

Who the fuck arrests and abuses aid workers trying to save children?

Jackass and Redneckville want these aid workers to be thrown in jail for a few years (That'll teach 'em).

On the contrary, I would love to see a French-style revolution in that country.

This time, it will be on YouTube!!

You "let 'em eat cake" idlers will understand the reality at that point.

Ok Tyger.

You want to be gay and your family has rejected you.

I feel for you. That's sad. And wrong.

Or, maybe it's something else.

But you can't be prejudiced against people you don't know and condemn them to a punishment that does not fit the crime.

For example, I can't hate a Jew because he's a Jew, or a black just because he's black, or a Muslim just because he believes something different from me.

If this country has accomplished anything, it's been able to teach me tolerance of people who are different from me.

You're young. I hope you can find some peace and forgive those who are not as knowledgable as you.

"Why were they "kidknapping" and "Trafficking" the children?"

That's up to the judge and jury to decide. These folks were caught at the border trying to smuggle 33 kids out of the country. The state has no idea if they're do-gooders, sex-traffickers, or cannibals. They just have this pesky rule about not taking children out of the country without the government's approval.

Family rejected me when I was 17, got over it before I turned 21, I'm 45 (not young) and it's NEVER been a problem since. My grandparents left that hateful church around the same time I turned 21.

Back on topic
These people ARE NOT AID WORKERS!
Let's be honest, they had no good plan, no experience, no qualifications, no funding, lied to people and took children under false pretenses while being led by a woman who failed at her own business, got her home forclosed on, has judgements from creditors, has a live in nanny to take care of her own children, (irony much) and were taking 30 children to another country, to an unknown destination with at best flimsy plans to rent a closed hotel? Just look at this ragtag group, you think they were going to provide care to 31 children, some of whom are still in diapers?

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Beating up? You haven't laid a glove on me. Yesterday you refused to admit they broke the law; today you're at least admitting they broke it, but now you're suggesting the state should somehow be able to read into their souls and tell the righteous lawbreakers from the devious lawbreakers. And give a fuck.

Seems to me it's you who's broken and bloodied, to the point of having to make up wild accusations and bullshit. But, if you insist on continuing the self-delusion, I won't stop you. Carry on, Haskell.

"Are you blind, or stupid?"

Luckily, with Eddie, it doesn't have to be an either/or.

to clarify

Aid is brought to those in need, not taking children from parents under false promises to another country!

I hate to use the word, esp. today, but I feel like I'm beating up a retarded person.

Quit beating yourself up and get over it.

I AM gay have been since the day I was born.

Family rejected me when I was 17, got over it before I turned 21, I'm 45 (not young) and it's NEVER been a problem since. My grandparents left that hateful church around the same time I turned 21.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I disagree. It is quite obvious that you lash out at people and are quick to judge because your family's rejection affected your psyche. You should think about getting counseling from a mental health professional.

As far as you being gay since the day you were born, the prophet David Koresh would admonish you for saying something so wrong. Your first words were not " Mom I like men with hairy asses." Most likely something in your childhood development led to to homosexuality. Being that most people have no memory of anything before they were three years old, when people say they were born gay that is a lie. How can you say you were born gay if you have no memory when you were born.

Yes, he would correct tyger by saying, "there are only two things you can be born as... a delusional pedophile with aspirations of becoming a warlord, or a sinner".

Most likely something in your childhood development led to to homosexuality.

Sexual orientation has a biological origin. Mindless devotion to the words of a raving lunatic, however, is a chosen behavior. What led you to embrace the teachings of an militant pederast, timbecile? Could it be that you share one or more "hobbies" with Koresh? Which one might it be... aspirations of domestic terrorism, or a propensity for child molestation?

Sexual orientation has a biological origin.

That's probably the most profound, insightful sentence ever posted on this blog.

Good job.

Newsworthy flag.

As far as demestic terrorism goes Goerge Washington was a domestic terrorist. I am non-violent.

Janet Reno obviously slandered David Koresh.

Sexual orientation has a biological origin.

Pure and utter bullshit.

Goerge Washington was a domestic terrorist...

...one with vastly more reasonable motivations than David Koresh or any of the seditious rightwing militias in existence today.

Pure and utter bullshit.

I assume you think sexual orientation is a chosen behavior. Alright... will you please explain to me how you choose to become aroused when you browse the Victoria's Secret catalog yet choose not to get a boner when you see a picture of a Calvin Klein underwear model with a bulging package?

Really? George Washington sought freedom from tyranny; so did David Koresh. If these militias are committing sedition why doesn't the gov't just kill them.

It is called human nature. Pure and simple

Right wing Christian fundamentalists do what they like and take what they want. They believe they are above the law. What we need is massive assistance to the Haitian community to right the massive wrongs perpetrated upon them by the so-called Christian communities of the United States, France and most other rich countries who have denied Haiti it's rights as a sovereign nation for 200 years. Let's tell it like it is!
