Records show that Sarah Palin has not paid any property taxes on cabins that have been built on two backcountry plots in Alaska. It's unclear how long ago the structures were built, but records show that there are no tax assessments for the buildings. Property taxes were only paid on the land and not the structures themselves. The issue has attracted the attention of local tax officials who conducted a scheduled aerial survey of the property on Thursday.

"Ooooooh THOOOOSE Cabins..."

-Palin

$10 says thats where Bristol got pregnant.

You can't truely call her 'mavericky' until she goes Ruby Ridge style.

It's unclear how long ago the structures were built, but records show that there are no tax assessments for the buildings. Property taxes were only paid on the land and not the structures themselves.

Palin probably figured a building permit had been pulled to construct the homes and never gave it much thought as it's usually left up to the contractor to get the permit from the city.

And if no building permit was applied for, then the county assessor's office wouldn't have had any notice of their existence so would not have included the buildings in her property tax bill.

I doubt she did this intentionally. The increase her tax bill would likely have been minimal and I'm sure she'd have been willing to pay if she even was aware how building permits worked and she probably didn't. I'd be more inclined to blame it either on the contractor who likely didn't yank a permit to build. I doubt Sarah Palin knew much about how it all worked..

#3 - scratch "either"

Records show that Sarah Palin has not paid any property taxes on cabins that have been built on two backcountry plots partially owned by the former Alaska governor.

Now I see where the libs jump on Palin for her brainless moments. If she doesn't believe in property taxes then she should have backed the candidate to legislate for removal of property taxes, Debra Medina, not the coward Perry.

Scary is a log cabin republican?

LOL.

One who hasn't pay tax on the buildings on her property that were built w/o permits?

Meh, a small enuff farkup but still another strike against her*.

/*except among her hardcore supporters who will spin this away as a simple mistake rather than further evidence of her hubris and sense of entitlement.

Be Well.

pay = paid

Be Well.

except among her hardcore supporters who will spin this away as a simple mistake rather than further evidence of her hubris and sense of entitlement.

Well, we'll see. Somehow I don't think the right obsesses over every non-event and every bit of minutiae of her life as the left does. But I could be wrong. As I said, we'll see.

...but still another strike against her*.

If she is guilty of malfeasance it is indeed a strike against her. It's clear in your all-knowing eyes she is and that you have her tried and convicted. Gee, I wonder why? Could it be blind partisanship? LOL

A closed mind that automatically blinks, "he's conservative -- automatic guilt, he's liberal, automatic perfect" must be a fucked up thing to live with. My condolensces. Better get back to huffpo. Your masters beckon! LOL

A closed mind that automatically blinks, "he's conservative -- automatic guilt, he's liberal, automatic perfect" must be a fucked up thing to live with.

Cos Spud is the blind partisan in this picture?

Lawls!

Cos Spud has a black and white view of politics that exists without the benefit of nuance and shades of grey?

Have you ever actually read Spud's posts?

Any of them?

One who hasn't paid taxes on the buildings on her property that were built w/o permits?

Note the question mark at the end of that sentence.

A question is not a declaration of guilt.

Goat FAILs again.

Qu'elle farking sooprize!

Keep trying though.

A broken clock is right twice a day and even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then.

Yer due.

^_^

Be Well.

Note the question mark at the end of that sentence.

And note the lack of one here (which is what I was referring to, but you knew that.)

Meh, a small enuff farkup but still another strike against her*.
deth fails epicly again. LOL Does continual failure ever get old, or are you pretty numb to it by now?

In many states, unless it's considered a permanent structure, they are exempt from real estate taxes. Mobile homes and campers are considered personal property and have to be listed on your personal property taxes. But in NC structures built on skids or a wooden foundation designed to be moved are exempt because they are not considered permanent structures.

#12 Judging by the size they described, I believe they are permanent structures.

I don't know the Alaskan laws, but in Texas, the contractor or builder has to report the structure to the county tax assessor. The house that is now my rent house had an addition to it that the builder did not report. I did not know this since I never really looked that closely at my tax statement. Five years after I lived in it, the county suddenly raised my taxes without a peep. I protested and they pointed out the change in the square footage, which I didn't notice. Luckily they did not make me liable for back taxes.

Property taxes are bullshit anyway.

The fact that you can spend your entire life improving a piece of land or a home with your own money while you're actually just renting it from the state.

Freedom? Ha! We're fucking wages slaves living on the plantation.

Oh, and F**k sarah palin.

Oh, and F**k sarah palin.

If only . . .

I protested and they pointed out the change in the square footage, which I didn't notice. Luckily they did not make me liable for back taxes.

#13 | Posted by goatman

You didn't notice the change in the square footage of your house? Where do you live, Rose Red? lol

The addition was made by the previous owner before I moved in.

Breaking news, the cabins are located on the Alaska Russian border.

see she can see russia from her front porch.

#3 | Posted by CalifChris

The former mayor of a small town didnt know how the building permit process works? HIGHLY unlikely but then again we are talking about Sarah Palin.

If only . . .

I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating Crackers.

*looks down at crotch*

Isn't that right Crackers?

The never-been-laid right wing lust voters will defend Sarah against all facts.
Sir Galahad Goatluster sees nothing less in Sarah than he sees in his well splattered poster of Farrah.

"According to borough records, the tax assessments are sent to Richter's post office box in Big Lake.
There is no phone listing in Alaska for Richter and he could not be reached Thursday.
The matter first appeared Wednesday on an Alaska political blog site, Mudflats, which has been critical of Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate"

"Van Flein said work is still being done on the cabins, but both are usable."

I love this line in the post: "It's unclear how long ago the structures were built"

That was written to give the impression of some wrong doing. The referenced article does say:

"He said construction began on one of the cabins in 2006, but he didn't know when construction started on the second one."

That would mean they are still under construction for those whose second language is English. Plus taxes aren't usually assigned until the construction is complete and assessed and only then due at the end of that calendar year. You got to love the line "Records show that Sarah Palin has not paid any property taxes on cabins" though. It really makes it sound bad, crooked, illegal.

So it would be safe to assume it was some time after 2006 the second cabin was started, maybe even in 2009. But then again it is "unclear". But the article is unclear as to whose cabin is whose.

Don't let several pesky little facts get in the way of a good rant and another Palin post.

When were the cabins built? How often are assessments conducted? If they were built since the last assessment, then the onus should be on the county assessor's office to come look at your house and decide how much they think it's worth.

Dunivan...said owners are required by state law to report any omissions or errors in their tax assessments.
There were no errors or omissions in her latest assessment. There is simply a need for a new assessment. Notice that the quote from Dunivan does not say owners are required to report upgrades to their property.

Another Palin topic? Everyday?

For example, an "error or omission in a tax assessment" would be that they surveyed your land and reported one structure, but missed the detached garage. The last assessment was correct at the time it was made, so there were no errors or omissions to report.

Another Palin topic? Everyday?

#24 | Posted by tygersilver at 2010-02-05 01:53 PM

It is amazing how often she does or says something stupid or unethical, isn't it?

the rules dont apply to sarah, she is a maverick. hay, did anyone hear how the death panel meeting turned out for her and her genetic mutant?

Sarah has to spend at least z years sounding intelligent to ever get my vote. Something I don't see happening. And she should be penalized if valid "omissions" are present.

But you take a telepromter away from the bafoon, not much difference between him and chimpy or SP. And I would really like to take a clear look at O's financial history. Funny how they all have no problem playing with "our" money.

Times have to get tougher for all of us and accountability has to rule.

Photographic evidence of the existance of structures that the taxes were never paid on won't mean shit to the riiight, they're all about "beleifs." If SARAH! doesn't believe she did anything wrong then she didn't. Case closed.

Thankfully, the teabaggers will be paying enough to cover her speaking fees and Sarah can cover any taxes she needs to pay.

Wait, Sarah Palin didn't pay taxes???
But Obama didn't give her a job in his cabinet. WTF!?! I thought ALL tax cheats worked for Obama.

Oh, wait, no, that is only a pre-requisite.

It works like this: All Obama cabinet memebers are Tax Cheats, but not all tax cheats are in Obamas Cabinet.

Now I see where the libs jump on Palin for her brainless moments.

Kind of how the cons jump on every Democrat for their brainless moments.

But Mayor Mooseville is different because she has an R after her name, so that makes it a-okay.

Yup, it's called pulling a "Rangel"

It is so wonderful that so many of you can tell exactly what her motivations were. I mean with out your insight i might just think it was a minor tax error but it is nice to know that it was out of pure evil that she did not pay a couple hundred extra dollars that we all know she could not afford.

That would mean they are still under construction for those whose second language is English. Plus taxes aren't usually assigned until the construction is complete and assessed and only then due at the end of that calendar year.

Is anyone living in the bldgs? I have lived in my house for 13 years and it is still under construction if you ask me! So since it is still "under construction then I guess I didn't have to pay all those taxes I been paying all these years!

Sounds like Sarah! was just skirting the law once again to save a buck and got caught (again). Of course, she will gladly pay now...now that she got caught. No wonder she quit. Too much trouble trying to explain all these things away every time she gets caught with her hand in the cookie jar. I am sure she will have a Great Moose Story to go with it though.

So you don't think republicans should be held to a higher standard than the radical leftist, stalinist, secret muslim suicide bomber who is hell bent on destroying america and and anyone who would ever stoop so low as to associate with him?

Again:

So you don't think republicans should be held to a higher standard than the radical leftist, stalinist, secret muslim suicide bomber who is hell bent on destroying america and and anyone who would ever stoop so low as to associate with him?

I have no problem believing that.

Sure, holding cons to any standard would be higher than that of your glorious leader's confidants.

It is so wonderful that so many of you can tell exactly what her motivations were.

Actually, it is that we don't think she has any that bothers us. A "motive" would at least show thought and planning. I would love to see some sign of a "motive" for the things she says and does. She is slowly making Quayle look like Mensa.

#39 | Posted by SHEEPLESHEPERD at

Democrats cause cancer, they want to murder your grandma, and they kill babies, I read about it here everyday. If they're not paying their taxes that should be the least of your concerns, in fact you should expect it from the e-vil fuckers. The republicans on the other hand, they are pure. Good wholesome law abiding citizens, the whole lot of them, I read that here everyday too.

I find this funny, if this doubled her property value she would owe an extra $156.13. That is it, that is a big deal to a lot of you? That is an amount that you think was to steep for her to pay so she committed tax fraud? Do you honestly think anyone is immune to a mix up or mistake, never mind that she is only part owner and we don't know who does the the taxes for the property or her, never mind that things are not usually assessed until completion, never mind that we don't even know if she filed any paperwork. It says palin so BURN HER!!!

Oh my GOD!!! Lets interrogate her to the fullest during those 50 minutes and then read the cheat'in Bitch her Miranda Rights!

I guess she figured her husband and his buddies were going to have successfully succeeded from the US by now and that she would be the queen of her own country by now and she would just never have to pay.

She was probably too busy scamming the state to notice:

# The governor coached her staff on how to disguise the amount of electrical work needed at the mansion to hook up her new tanning bed.
# Palin and her staff stewed over the refusal of the state Public Safety Department to provide a plane so the children could fly to Todd's family's home in Dillingham; after all, they were going to attend a bill signing, so the travel requests could be justified. Sarah Palin called the decision "outrageous," and an aide said it provides "a great excuse to privatize" the governor's jet service.
# The manager of the Palins' travel schedule searched for a public event to use as justification ("I just need one") to charge the state for an airplane flight for Palin's daughter, Willow, who made the trip but had missed the event given as its justification.

trying to find someone who has not cheated or avoided paying taxes in Obama's cabinet is like God trying to find a good man in Sodom and Gomorrah.

What, another Palin article? The Huffnpuff and Resnort continue their love affair.

There are no tax assessments for the two-story, house-sized cabins, a workshop and a sauna spotted Thursday in an aerial survey. Property taxes totaling $156.13 were paid on the land in 2009 but that bill did not include anything for the structures because the local assessor didn't know about the new construction nearly 100 miles north of Anchorage.

No assessment = no bill = nothing to pay. As if the fucknut libbies here would be begging the state to increase their taxes. They only beg to have other people's taxes raised.

So does this mean that Palin is finally crooked enough to serve in Washington?

If this was a member of the Obama Administration the Fox-Republicans would be going ballistic!!!! Fucking Hypocrites.....

"Well, we'll see. Somehow I don't think the right obsesses over every non-event and every bit of minutiae of her life as the left does. But I could be wrong. As I said, we'll see.

Who? Isn't Bush President?

you are a moron.

#38 | Posted by eberly

oh dear that INTERNET tough guy eberly who blogs from his moms basement thinks I am a moron! My whole day is shot!

The point was ( and you probably missed it) that if someone is living in those cabins then they are not "under construction" anymore. Houses are always works in progress but Permits need to be paid and properties reassessed and Sarah! knows this. She was just hoping no one would notice. If you are going to be a "public figure" you really should do the paperwork.

Oh, that Sarah! Caught with her hand in the cookie jar again! If it becomes too much trouble to explain away She could just "quit" again.

Or call ol' Charlie Rangel for some tax advice.

Humm - funny how you all are screaming about Palin and a couple of cabins - when we have from the Obama adminstration:

New Mexico Democratic Governor Bill Richardson, nominated for Commerce Department Secretary. He withdrew on January 4 after it emerged that he was the subject of a Grand Jury investigation for influence peddling, due to his awarding of a $1.5 million state contract to political contributors.

Former South Dakota Democratic Senator Tom Daschle, nominated for Health and Human Services Secretary. He withdrew on February 3, admitting that he had failed to pay more than $100,000 in taxes on a car and driver provided by a friend and on consulting fees after he left the Senate.

Nancy Killefer, former Assistant Secretary for Management and Chief Financial Officer of the Treasury Department during the Clinton administration, nominated for Deputy Director at the Office of Management and Budget and Chief Performance Officer. Killefer withdrew on February 3 because of a lien against her home for failure to pay unemployment tax for household help.

Hilda Solis, nominated for Labor Secretary, was confirmed on February 11 even though her husband had liens against his business going back 16 years. He paid the full $6,400 owed a day before her confirmation hearing.

Timothy Geithner, nominated and confirmed on February 24 for Treasury Secretary. Geithner failed to pay $34,000 in self-employment taxes while he worked at the International Monetary Fund from 2001 to 2004. Yet he was still confirmed because Democrats said his position was too important to be left unfilled any longer.

Former Obama campaign worker Susan Tierney, the leading candidate for Deputy Secretary of Energy, dropped out on March 3 without citing a reason -but she had not filed taxes for 3 years

Jane Garvey,Obama's top choice for Deputy Secretary of Transportation, also dropped out on March 3, reportedly for not reporting several sources of income on her taxes.

Former Washington Democratic Governor Gary Locke. Nominated on March 5, for Secretary of Commerce after Bill Richardson and Judd Gregg withdrew. was involved in Chinagate with former Clinton Commerce employee John Huang. Huang wrote a $1,000 check to Locke and co-sponsored fundraising events that netted $30,000 in 1996 alone.

Caroline Atkinson, nominated for Undersecretary of International Affairs, withdrew on March 5 as well. Insiders said she had tax issues as well.

Former Dallas Democratic Mayor Ron Kirk, nominated for Trade Representative, failed to pay $10,000 in back taxes for speaking fees over three years. He faced Senate questioning on March 9 over it, but is expected to win confirmation. $2,600 of the back taxes was due to deducting $17,382 worth of basketball tickets; he was unable to provide proof of business purposes for those tickets. Most Americans can't afford $17,382 in baseball tickets, much less have a business to deduct the cost from. Kirk also took overly large deductions for a used TV he gave to charity, and inflated accounting and tax preparation fees. He has agreed to pay $9,975 in back taxes from 2005-2007.

I can move on to the House tax issues - and the senate as well. But compare those to Palin...is Pale -ling by comparison

"But compare those to Palin...is Pale -ling by comparison"

So which of those items, specifically, excuses Palin for flouting the law?

Whasamatter Goatboy does the Great Birth Certificate Hunt have the wingnuts distracted?

I think you should ask the "wingnuts"

see she can see russia from her front porch.

#18 | Posted by truthhurts

And you can see your asshole on your porch.

Oh my, what a big deal! Let me see, who forgot to pay income taxes..... I heard she did not leave a big tip..... lets see what the left does with that. Bark, Bark, Bark!!! Idiots! Children in mind in mature bodies!

I guess someone needs to inform foshaffer that unpaid past due income taxes is not the same as evading property taxes. If you report the income but don't pay them on time the penalties and liens start accumulating, but you not evading the fact that you owe them. What Palin did was build two homes, not one, but two, without permits and without reporting them as required by law. She damn well knew exactly what she was doing was illegal. She was a governor there once, in case you forgot. That makes her a tax cheat, just like anyone else from either party that evades paying their taxes. At any rate just because others are tax cheats too doesn't exonerate Palin.

I think you should ask the "wingnuts"

I never knew you were Egyptian? Living in de Nile now goaty.

I doubt she did this intentionally.

Nice catch.

Sure...go ahead and pretend paying property taxes in a state without an income tax is an option.

"The group that spots their manties defending the Obama tax cheats by using semantics is now convicting Palin. "

You've got that backwards, 101. I can't seem to figure out why anyone with a (D) who pays taxes late is a Tax Cheat according to the right, but Palin gets a pass.

Cheating at taxes. I didn't realize Palin was changing parties and hoping to join nObama's cabinet. Such a traitor.

So does this mean that Palin is finally crooked enough to serve in Washington?

Finally? She's been crooked since she was mayor of Wasilla.

And Jim-if you don't declare income, like SARAH!! didn't building on the property, does that mean you don't owe taxes on it?

NG3

Like her house, conveniently built by Todd and what he called 'contractor buddies' who were building the multimillion dollar ice rink that left Wasilla deep in the hole. Coincidence? BWAAA

They're now calling the larger of the two cabins the 'Todd Mahal'.

LOL !!!!!!

Didn't pay her taxes? She would be perfectly qualified to be in Obama's cabinet

I don't remember hearing a peep out of the DR libs when all of Obama's appointees were being called out on tax problems. Oh I almost forgot, libs are exempt from paying taxed

DAN-
You're correct in that nothing the myriad of Dems has done dismisses her wrongdoing (if, indeed, she's either admitted to or been proven to have done wrong).

While the pubbies sit around pointing the finger at dems, it's easy to forget Palin learned everything she knows from Ted Stevens, her mentor and role model.

You all know what they say about birds of a feather.

Records show that Sarah Palin has not paid any property taxes on cabins that have been built on two backcountry plots in Alaska
if true . . where do ya go from there?

make her US Treasury Secretary, Fed Chair-woman, or United Nations Sec General??

"if true . . where do ya go from there?"

We get to call her a Tax Cheat in every post.

Over the years I've known many people who have improved their properties, but I cannot remember any of them saying they notified the town, borough, etc., so that their taxes could be raised. It's just no something a normal person would even think of.

"And Jim-if you don't declare income, like SARAH!! didn't building on the property, does that mean you don't owe taxes on it?"

That sentence doesn't make sense. Did Sarah fail to declare income? That would be a federal issue, not a state issue, for one; and has nothing to do with building a cabin or two out in the bush, for two. Completely different statutory schemes. Please clarify your thoughts, if you can.

If someone cant handle their own affairs, how in the hell do they expect to handle a whole country's?

Sure, she could have fucked up and "forgotten" that she had property that she wasn't paying taxes on for whatever reason, but no offense that shit doesn't cut it no matter how you spin it...she fucked up and while mistakes happen, this by and large was a pretty fucking stupid one.

Loh

The link says the property gets assessed in 2010.

Who is THE SSOB who gives a shit if Palin paid property taxes on cabins built on back country plots in Alaska????????????????????

Such a dense stupid SSOB would Care.........

Get A liFE STUPID REIGNSHITbot your post stinks
like the shit you apparently are...

Wow, Dr. Shit For Brains... how many of your two-dozen hooch-soaked neurons did it take to come to that conclusion?

"If someone cant handle their own affairs, how in the hell do they expect to handle a whole country's?"

Important point. Did you ask that of Obama's various cabinet leaders? She's not even been assessed yet for property improvements and the left is hollering. Hypocritical and stupid. Show's just how fearful they are that some bo-hick Alaska Bush Woman can upset their blessed Messiah in a Presidential race. Pitiful, really, and downright pathetic, considering how many posts the Retorters have to have daily and weekly in an attempt to discredit Sarah. November 2010 and 2012 is shaping up to be some kind of fun.

"She's not even been assessed yet for property improvements"

Nice skirting of the law. It's not up to the assesment folks to report new buildings on a property. It's up to the owners.

Unless, of course, they're Republicans.

What is this liberal fascination with everything Palin? Does the liberal mind just need someone to hate? Now that Bush is gone, I guess the haters have nowhere left to turn lol.

If you liberals should be hating anyone it is Obama, Pelosi and Reid as they are destoying your party in the eyes of American voters (see Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusets).

The GOP railed on Dems taking cabinet positions who had tax mistakes. This is Palin's second mistake with taxes. Thankfully they just paid her $100K to give a short pep talk. Now she can pay for this mistake as well.
