LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - After 20 years, Sandra Bullock is finally thinking of herself as a good actress. And Hollywood seems to agree.

Wait a minute! Wasn't the character she played a compasionate Republican? And she's up for an Oscar?

When Pigs Fly!!!

Well, the Saints are going to the Superbowl.

"Blindside" was a terrific movie.

If Oher hadn't attended her kid's school they'd have never met. Germantown, TN is a world away from Memphis next door. The twain rarely meet.

Still, what that family did is worthy of acknowledgement, and hopefully open some doors.

Just watch the scene with Bullock at lunch with her country club friends. They mock and cajole her until she leaves in disgust. THAT's the typical sentiment among Germantown residents, not Bullock's character.

I don't think so. That scene would have you believe that Germantown is white only. There are many blacks who live there.

GERMANTOWN, TN Demographics:

As of the census of 2000, there were 37,348 people, 13,220 households, and 11,065 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,124.1 people per square mile (820.3/km). There were 13,676 housing units at an average density of 777.8/sq mi (300.4/km). The racial makeup of the city was 92.94% White, 2.33% African American, 0.16% Native American, 3.50% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.09% of the population.

I was in Germantown shortly after Christmas. It's a typical wealthy community nearly 93% white and only 2.33% African-American. Wealthy people venture into the city for work, entertainment, or sporting events. They do not, by and large, mingle with the populations of inner cities. This is true almost everywhere in the U.S.

Breaks down to:

34733 Whites
798 African-Americans

I didn't see this movie, but I'm a Steelers fan, so I'm really not allowed to like it.

I like what Betty White said about Sandra Bullock:

"She's really gone a long way for somebody so plain"

I hope Bullock wins the Oscar. Heartwarming movie that hopefully gave millions pause in their preconceived notions about kids of other races. Kids of all races with good parents and/or good role models usually turn out pretty well.

We are what we know. Oher thought he was stupid until his mental and physical abilities were nurtured. What a turnaround given through a tremendous gift of generosity by the Tuohys.

Sure did seem like more than 798 when I lived there for six months in '92.

The lady and her children who lived above me and my boss (who lived in the same complex)...

*gasp* - I was in the negro quarters and I didn't even know it!

But it a world apart from parts of Memphis.

Betty WHite was hot in her day.

It's weird that you would include this information as though it was part of your personal observation, even though you just posted the stats from a link. I figured it wouldn't take long before the Unitard started telling stories again. Keep 'em comin.

Hm. Well, my personal observation was I didn't see a single black person in Germantown, That good enough for you, troll? Statistics are facts. I post facts. You? Babble.

"It's weird that you would include this information as though it was part of your personal observation"

Huh??? He posted that the info came from the census right about that post.

The movie was really good, I watched it last night. Some of the football stuff was a little cheesy, but then, the story isn't really about football so the director can be forgiven.

As an Ole Miss alum I felt the portrayal of Ole Miss grads, the grove, and the more recent color-blind nature of our institution --which is forced to acknowledge its past continually through the media and scapegoated-- was spot-on. We are what we are, and you'll never meet a Rebel that wishes to white-wash (pun intended) our history. We cherish it all, even the shameful parts.

I won't attempt to spoil it for those who haven't seen the flick, but the reasons Oher gives for attending UM are the EXACT words I have repeated many times and a sentiment you'll hear from most that go to Ole Miss today. If there be a heaven it will look much like Oxford, MS in the springtime.

p.s. wikipedia aside, AU hasn't the faintest clue about Germantown.

To the best of my knowledge, Sandra Bullock has never shown any serious flesh in a movie.

Pop your top, Sandy!

The awards are sure to follow!
