Given that the orphans weren't harmed and weren't going to be I find that more than a stretch. The Christians in the story were arrogant and disespectful towards the officials in Haiti. They were guilty of not wanting to follow the correct adoption process. But they were trying to adopt orphaned kids.

The other story is about people who let rapists off the hook and whip rape victims for no other reason than they are misogynistic sadists.

All religions are totalitarian. So any State formed around any religion will inevitably become --if not first founded upon-- a totalitarian system.

Forget for a moment why this girl was given this punishment. Whatever the reason, 101 lashes is a BRUTAL punishment. That girl will have little to no flesh left on her back, the white of her ribs will be clearly visible through the torn away flesh and she will be in unbelievable pain for months to come.

Back in the Napoleonic era when British sailors committed extreme offenses (like mutiny or even sometimes theft) they would get "flogged around the fleet" receiving lashes at every ship in a port. These lashes usually started at 200, most men didn't survive the ordeal. They were whipped to death.

This poor girl was probably literally whipped to within an inch of her life. I noticed the story didn't include any of these types of facts. Maybe they should, the outrage might live up to the action if they did.
