The Obama administration says the government will grow to 2.15 million employees this year, topping 2 million for the first time since President Clinton declared that "the era of big government is over" and joined forces with a Republican-led Congress in the 1990s to pare back the federal work force.

In comparison, Walmart has 2.1 million.

Keep in mind that the US population has grown by 60 million since Clinton. Nobody can expect the number of federal employees to keep falling.

Over one million of those federal employees work in Defense, Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security. 4,000 work in Education.

Keep in mind that the US population has grown by 60 million since Clinton.
* * * *

Nope.

the US population has grown by 60 million since Clinton.

In July 1992 the US population was 256M. When he left office it was 282M. It is now 304M.

www.google.com

Why do you lie?

Reading comprehension is a must

He said "Since Clinton" (took office). Too many people forget, or choose to forget, the 8 years of Bush ever happened, so it's understandable.

Walmart has 2.1 million.

And I think that is worldwide, not just the US. Cut the bloat!

Reading comprehension is a must

I agree.

He said "Since Clinton" (took office)

Which is why I cited stats from 1992. Feel free to post anything to the contrary.

And I love how you include "took office" in parentheses even though that was in no way clear from his post. Talk about reading comprehension. What a moron.

JOE

To you everyone is a moron or a liar or a douche or something. Indicates dangerous self loathing on your part.

The figures he posted made clear what period of time he was speaking about. The first number he gave was U.S. population during CLINTON'S FIRST TERM.

Again, reading comprehension is vital if you don't want to look like what you accuse everyone under the sun of being.

From Clinton's first year in office.

If you'd bothered to do a quick Google you'd have known that to, but, as usual, open your mouth unarmed with facts.

And we all love how you asked "Why do you lie," when you had no good reason to make the accusation.
(Except just to do it, right?)

"It is now 304M."

No, that was July 2008. And ~3 million were added the prior year, so extrapolating for another year and a half, that would come to about 308.5 million, now.

To you everyone is a moron or a liar or a douche or something. Indicates dangerous self loathing on your part.

How so? I'd say it indicates the loathing of others.

The figures he posted made clear what period of time he was speaking about. The first number he gave was U.S. population during CLINTON'S FIRST TERM.

Which, again, is why I posted figures from 1992. Feel free to post anything which indicates my numbers are inaccurate.

Again, reading comprehension is vital if you don't want to look like what you accuse everyone under the sun of being.

I agree. If only you were capable of such a thing.

Is the argument here that the government should increase government workers in correlation with increases in population? I am not so sure that is a valid argument.

I'd say it indicates the loathing of others.

I will not argue with the fact that you loathe others. You are the youngest version of a curmudgeon I have ever seen. You're too young to be so cynical and negative.

"Feel free to post anything which indicates my numbers are inaccurate."

How is it when it's your numbers, they're merely inaccurate, but when it's someone else's they're "lying"?

Or, more to the point, why did you lie when you claimed the current population was only 304 million?

From Clinton's first year in office.

And this was a bad thing why, exactly? He said "the population has grown 60M since Clinton." Arguably any stat from the Clinton days would be appropriate unless you want to add words he never said.

What has happened "since Bush?" Was Bush president for 8 years "since Bush," or does "since Bush" imply the end of Bush's term?

JOE

He didn't need to say 'the first year'. The first set of population numbers he gave were from 1992. Quite elementary, Dr. Watson.

He didn't need to say 'the first year'. The first set of population numbers he gave were from 1992.

He didn't give any population numbers. He simply said that the population has grown 60M since Clinton.

Talk about reading comprehension.

What has happened "since Bush?" Was Bush president for 8 years "since Bush," or does "since Bush" imply the end of Bush's term?

That's open to interpretation. Population figures given from 1992 made his assertion very specific in time.

JOE

You called him a liar. The numbers prove you wrong.

In July 1992 the US population was 256M. When he left office it was 282M. It is now 304M.

Why do you lie?

You contradicted yourself in one post. Someone else pointed out our population is currently 308 million - MORE than 60 million. Either way 60 million was correct, and your liar accusation utterly ridiculous as per your own post.

The numbers prove you wrong.

Then show me a 60M increase "since Clinton."

You gave it yourself in the post of yours I just pointed out.

In July 1992 the US population was 256M. When he left office it was 282M. It is now 304M.

You contradicted yourself in one post. Someone else pointed out our population is currently 308 million - MORE than 60 million.

The difference between 256M and 308M is not "more than 60M." Apparently mathematics is just as fundamental to you as reading.

He didn't give any population numbers. He simply said that the population has grown 60M since Clinton.

Talk about reading comprehension.

#18 | Posted by JOE

And he was right according to your own figures.

Do you know how to subtract?

Close enough for jazz.

308 - 256 = 52.

52

Close enough for jazz.

Translation: I just talked out of my ass for a half hour.

The point is you came onto this thread to be an asshole to that guy. Who cares if it's 50 or 60 million or 100 million? Facts are, the population has increased a LOT since 1992 - as he pointed out.

So it increased 54 or 55 million? You really enjoy being anal, don't you?

But Joe, you originally claimed 304 million. To quote a lawyer, "Why do you lie?"

We won't know the true 2010 number until the Census is taken. We do know you're an incessant jerk around here though. What an accomplishment!

Later, troll.

Hey, you're only off by 5 or 6 million. Chump change, right?

Here's another quote Danforth - "go fuck yourself."

If you can't see the difference between missing some greyed out text on a graph, and deliberately pulling numbers out of your ass to support a political point of view, you're even more hopeless than I thought. As I've said before though, you're not an idiot, you just play one on the internet. Must be those acting skills.

"Here's another quote Danforth - "go fuck yourself.""

Wow...you really hate it when the standards you impose on others are imposed on you, don't you?

JOE

Your act as an incessant jerk to half of DR's posters is an Oscar winner then.

The U.S. population went up a LOT since Clinton - 20%+

Deal with it.

"As I've said before though, you're not an idiot"

I wish I could say the same about you. Or at the least, not a hypocrite. If you're going to call someone a liar for incorrect numbers, you should call yourself a liar as well. Or do you get to live by different rules than the ones you impose on others?

I wouldn't have bothered commenting if JOE's post to DEREK_WILDSTAR (a new poster) hadn't ended with "Why do you lie?". That's such an old and immature retort. Thread before that, it was a wake and funeral I attended in Germantown, TN - right down the road. The demographic stats I posted there for EDDIE told the story of Germantown, home to the Touly's (Michael Oher) perfectly.

You might want to start the clock in 1992 if you like, but Clinton's term didn't start until 1993. And his big "era of big government is over" speech was in 1996.

More and more federal workers doing less and less. In a few weeks, hiring will begin on the census, and Obama will be hiring more than 2 times the people Clinton hired, and more than 4 times what Bush required.

Is there a single indicator in American life that isn't headed in the wrong direction, and accelerating?

More and more federal workers doing less and less.

And more and more private contractors charging more and more for the same work government workers used to do....for less.

"Obama will be hiring more than 2 times the people Clinton hired"

Is he spending twice as much, or just doing it quicker?

"more than 4 times what Bush required."

People, but not cost.

Still, your underlying point is right...the cost should be in the $5B range, not in the $7B-$8B range.

And more and more private contractors charging more and more for the same work government workers used to do....for less.

I would rather pay private contractors more than having to pay all the benefits that federal employees get.

TIMBCI

Read up a little on it. The overall cost is higher for contractors. Look at the military, our largest entity, for example:

The disparity has only gotten worse since this:

Army contractors earn higher salaries, study finds

By Jason Peckenpaugh jpeckenpaugh@govexec.com July 26, 2001

Employees of contractors who work for the Army earn much higher average salaries than the Army's own civilian and military employees, according to preliminary data from an Army study.

Contractors immediately questioned the study's results, arguing they could not stay in business if they paid the salary rates reported in the Army study.

Army contractor employees earned an average of $108,000 in fiscal year 2000, while Army civilians made an average of $63,000 and military personnel earned an average $69,000, according to the Army study and data from the Army Cost and Economic Analysis Center. The contractor figure reflects wages alone, while the civilian and military figures represent wages and benefits, meaning the gap between average salaries in the public and private sector is even larger than these figures indicate.

Stop lying. Most people in the military don't retire after 20 year. Most civilians that work on military bases are actually employed by contractos so the DOD is not responsible for their benefits

Stupid retort. You don't think 'most military retire after 20 years?'. How about most enlisted personnel are out of the military way before 20 years?

You are a stupid little shit. That is exactly my point. The military pays full benefits to a very low percentage. My brother was a Captain in the Marines but left to work as a consultant for the DOD. He works for a private contractor. He is also a follower of David Koresh as well

That wasn't your point. You stated 'most military DON'T retire after 20 years', and thus we pay these vast retirement benefits. Reread your own posts before responding next time, eh? Otherwise you might be taken for a 'stupid little shit'.

Paying private contractors so much more than the government workers they replaced is idiocy.

He works for a private contractor. He is also a follower of David Koresh as well

That explains a lot about your gene pool, 'son'.

And more and more private contractors charging more and more for the same work government workers used to do....for less.

LOL. Yeah, I'm sure it costs more to pay some immigrant from a private contractor to mop the floors at a courthouse than it did to pay some lazy county employee a salary and provide for his health insurance, his family's health insurance, and a pension after he retires. I guess you're using the same calculator you had upthread.

He works for a private contractor. He is also a follower of David Koresh as well

That explains a lot about your gene pool, 'son'.

Muskegon County school districts have saved nearly a half-million dollars by privatizing substitute teachers and other school employees over the past two years.
www.mlive.com

You stated 'most military DON'T retire after 20 years'

Yes asshole they don't retire aqfter 20 years. In other words, they retire before 20 years and full retirement. You are very brave on the internet. If only you were that brave in real life. Have fun on the phantom sailboat

The Wayne County Circuit Court in 1986 appointed Lou Schimmel to manage the bankrupt government of 12,000 city residents. Schimmel went to work, erasing Ecorse's $6 million deficit in four years by slashing the city's bureaucracy, selling unnecessary property, and privatizing most services including the entire department of public works.

Schimmel estimates that privatizing the department has saved Ecorse over one million dollars each year. As a private service provider, the department now generates revenue for the city's tax rolls, and the city no longer has to buy or maintain expensive equipment including street sweepers, snow plows, and maintenance trucks.

Yet, you claim to work out in Newport every night. Newport, a small area. God, you should really log off and save yourself additional embarrassment.

Linked several times over several days - with you still in denial for some reason? Hmm. Hey, Ahnold, you work out in Newport every night' according to you, riiiiiight? If that's true you'd have seen it 'every night'. It does not have a Star Trek Romulan Cloaking Device on it. It's right by the Newport Water Ferry dock, just like I said too.

Maybe you don't live anywhere near Newport or Jersey City. That's my guess.

Joe, that's good to read. I'm sure it's working just like the article says in a small community, but with the massive deficits we're running, countless stories of corruption, excess, greed, and increased costs from privatizing it doesn't seem to work well at all at the federal level.

And yes, the Newport water ferry is right outside his door at the Atlantic. One of us knows what he's talking about and one (you) apparently doesn't.

The only ferry in Newport is at Harborside Financial Center.

you keep posting websites for Newport but none for this phantom Atlantic building no one has ever heard of. Is it like that invisible building in the Phantom.

By the way I was walking through Newport tonight. I bought a big porthouse in Morton Williams . I kept screaming and asked everyone at the ice rink if they were from India but all I saw was Chinese and white people

Click the link, fool (well earned pejorative).

www.newportrentaltowers.com

countless stories of corruption, excess, greed, and increased costs from privatizing

Where are the "countless stories" on increased costs from privatizing? Can you post them?

Please repeat the big letters at the top left of the page at the link.

JOE

I'm not about to try to link years of reading to prove my point. You're welcome to investigate yourself though.

The one link I posted today was proof that the military pays out far more for contractors than their Federal Employee military and civilian counterparts. Who would assume it wouldn't continue to cost way more?

I kept screaming and asked everyone at the ice rink if they were from India but all I saw was Chinese and white people

And no doubt you haven't spent 5 seconds outside the Atlantic, where you can catch the Water Ferry steps from the entrance at the river. Thought all your buddies at your gym were Indian. I said the Atlantic is 90% Indian and Chinese H-1B workers. You've denied the building even exists. LOL

LOL

Nope I said no one I know has ever heard of it
I said I knew people at the gym that are Indian but they were all born in America.

So you know the background of all the darkskinned people in Newport. You must be an amazing detective. Perhaps the TSA should hire you . You could eliminate terrorist threats at all the airports. YOu sound like you are a racist. You obvious hate all Asians. If Obama hired you no one would need to profile.

Nope I said no one I know has ever heard of it

Guess they live at less prestigious addresses. Most people who've lived in Newport for any length of time know the building. You can't miss it. It's the main thing you see when you're approaching the Newport Water Ferry (which, apparently you've never ridden).

So you know the background of all the darkskinned people in Newport.

DuMmy (to borrow), I never said that. I said my buddy's building (which you claim doesn't exixt despite my giving you the ADDRESS and links several times) is 90% Indian and Chinese H-1B workers.

I know with your brother being a big Koresh worshiper I shouldn't expect a functional mind out of you LOL

So you know the background of all the darkskinned people in Newport.

What you said is the building doesn't exist, the Newport Water Ferry dock isn't right in front of it, and that I'm a liar (who knows the aforementioned, unlike a Jersey City/"I-work-out-in-Newport- every-night guy like yourself).

Over one million of those federal employees work in Defense, Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security. 4,000 work in Education.

During peace time % of government that is defense and law inforcement is aroud 15%

Clinton put together a pie chart during his administration, and it was divided into 3 parts, social services 80%, defense services 13%, and physical services 7%.

The Obama administration says the government will grow to 2.15 million employees this year, topping 2 million for the first time since...

It would be interesting to see the combined total of federal employees plus direct private contractors and those employed at private companies that work solely on government contracts.

I have several family members who work at Lockheed Martin and various other firms who work entirely for the federal government. They may not be government employees but they have salaries and benefit packages that can only result from very large, stable, and long term contracts with the US government.

At least the government is hiring becausethe Obama Administration hid 850,000 lost jobs from their numbers to keep unemployment around 10%:
