China, India, the U.S. and another 52 of the world's biggest polluting nations turned in pledges to reduce emissions and protect the climate, the United Nations announced on Monday. Although the move was welcomed as a good first step, significantly more work must be done, said Jennifer Morgan of the World Resources Institute. "The level of ambition must be ratcheted up if the world is to avoid dangerous levels of warming," she said.

Pledges? Give me a break. They are not worth the paper they are written in. On treaties are binding and not even Dems would vote for job killing cap and tax.

In other news, the groundhog saw his shadow and we will have another 6 weeks of winter.

They might reduce emissions but they will not change or even stabilize the climate.

Why do people insist on using the term "Global Warming"? Is it because AlGore used the term? If I remember correctly, which I do, the original term was climate change. I read research reports conducted by my clients, coal burning utility companies, on a constant basis, and these reports all conclude climate change is indeed a reality. The real questions are (a) whether it is man made, and (b) is there anything we can do about it. My clients are of the opinion that the answer is "kind-of" to (a) and "no" to (b).

Sounds kind of like the nuclear proliferation agreements that are only used to prevent developing nations from obtaining nuclear arms. We as the powerhouses will use it to slow progress of developing nations but will have little affect upon us except in a few token areas.

Just like our government, fix what ain't broke but ignore what is broke.

Headline should read: "52 Third World Countries pledge to take money from the USA, under the guise of Climate Change, and spend it on frivolious trinkets for their ruling class."

Apparently you never read the article past the headline. Why am I not surprised?

Quote from that article, "...It is important to keep this in perspective, however. This dramatic revision of the estimated impact of urbanisation on temperatures in China does not change the global picture of temperature trends. There is plenty of evidence of global warming, not least from oceans far from urban influences. A review of recent studies published online in December by David Parker of the Met Office concludes that, even allowing for Jones's new data, "global near-surface temperature trends have not been greatly affected by urban warming trends."

BTW...In reference to taxman's remark #10...Apparently you don't remember too good. It was anti-AWG nuts that insisted on calling it climate change because they refused to believe it was actually warming. The believed in the fairy tale that it was actually cooling. They still do.

Ringmaster, as usual you seem to be suffering from all that poisonous CO2. The article I refer to discusses far more than mere urban globalization causing upward trends in temperatures. What is clear is that there is desperation on the part of the GW faithers, such as yourself, to cling to anything, peer reviewed or not, that suggests that warming is occurring. Yet day after day there is more evidence that those studies rely on missing evidence, altered evidence, or no real evidence at all. Continue in your belief if you will, but be prepared for those of us with more discerning abilities to mock you day in and day out. All hail Al Whore, the GW Messiah and patriarch of the new Global Warming faithers. (please bow now)

THe problem is that the Climate Scientists have been discredited. We need new scientists that go in and use real science. Then submit to peer review ALL the data, even the stuff that shows the oposite of what they were looking for.

Real Scientists learn as much from failed tests as they do from successful tests.

The debate is not over until it is clear to all parties with all the data that the facts add up. When new data shows up, then the debate gets to start again.

A few scientists have been discredited in the eyes of the deniers. There are still thousands of scientists and hundreds of science academies that back agw. It won't be changing.

"If we find a way to effect the climate on purpose, then I fear for our survival". Oh, the irony.

I give these global warming freaks credit for being relentless in their attempt to destroy our economy and drive us all into poverty based on a phony religion and fake science.

There are no penguins at the North Pole.
It can only be because of global warming.

Going green doesn't have to harm an economy. Quite the opposite, as many other countries have proven. And don't forget that the economy was already destroyed by Wall Street.

In a different time you greenies would have followed Jim Jones to South America and drank his poisoned kool aid. Now you stupid MFers are following AlGore and the pseudo scientists at East Anglia and are drinking their piss water.

55 out of 190 nations---not a bad batting average.

Don't you understand China, Japan, France, Germany, Saudi Arabiahave been loaning us the money to fight ill-concieved wars as they watch us lose our superpower status and laugh?

Excellent question and a correct answer to boot.

I thought it was called climate change now instead of global warming because those lib scientists found out that the globe has been cooling for the last ten years. Pretty soon libs will be warning us about global cooling and they will try to ban refrigerators and ice cubes.. Hey what about the hole in the ozone layer. Do we still have to worry about that?

I thought it was called climate change now instead of global warming because those lib scientists found out that the globe has been cooling for the last ten years.

That's your biggest problem FW. Everything you think is messed up. If you just quit thinking you would be far better off. Just the fact that you endorse a certain point of view makes most people here think the opposite.

55 out of 190 nations---not a bad batting average.

Especially considering this: "The U.N. reported that 55 countries, which together account for 78 percent of global emissions from energy use, turned in their action plans."

Typical knee jerk response from matsop. You might try actually reading the article before inserting your foot in your mouth again. You'll end up like FWthom and we all know what FW stands for.

I'm always stunned by your brilliance in taking words out of context like that. It's even more clever than your endless versions of "I'm rubber, you're glue". How do you do it? Help from your third grade relatives or do you actually come up with these zingers all by yourself?

its not hard to fix what does not exist. vapor-ware. what a waste.

Coincidentally, the ice caps on Mars are also receding.

Temperatures in Arctic and Antarctica are below freezing, even in summer. Water freezes at 32 degrees F. So how does ice melt when temps are below freezing?

Might want to check out Mars, where temps are well well below freezing, yet ice caps are decreasing (Hint, there are no SUVs on Mars).

On a related note, my home freezer maintains a temperature of -17 degrees F. Ice does not melt in such temperature. Yet, if I leave and ice cube tray in the freezer for 6 months without removing the ice cubes, I notice that the cubes become smaller and smaller while in sub zero temperatures. What causes the ice to degrade?

Does disappearance of ice have to do with ice-melt or something else?

Reminder: Temps are colder now than in the immediate past, but still there are those who say ice disappearance is from "melting" ice. Really?

55 nations pledge to fix global warming?

Ok, I'm willing to pledge Syria and Zimbabwe, and I'll raise you Paraguay. Who's in?

The sky is falling! The sky is falling! And, in other news from the University of East Anglia, the emperor has no clothes!

How about the latest?

We have made large strides in cleaning up our air in the past 20 years, but they have found out that we are now having an increase in lung problems with young kids. Answer, we need to clean it up a whole bunch more. Somehow that seems to make little sense.

This whole global warming scare is a total hoax based on flawed and manipulated computer models, data suppresion and outright lying by the so-called "scientific experts". Its a total hoax that has put people out of work and caused policies to be put into place that take money out of everyday American's pockets.

It is a total hoax meant to enrich certain "special people", like elitist Al Gore, who ought to be in jail for outright fraud.

At the very least, people who have been unjustly deprived of scientific research, jobs and people put out of work by Gore's policy pushes should be able to sue the pants off him.

Where is the Plaintiff's Bar when we need them!!!!!

BTW, if we cut CO2 too much, we will kill off plant life since it "breathes" in our CO2 and produces Oxygen, which we then breath out to be again taken in by plant life. Kill off plant life and we end up with no Oxygen to breath which WILL lead to our extinction! Its called Photosynthesis. Look it up!

You know who else was called a fraud? Columbus. Gallileo.

You know who else was called a fraud? Columbus. Gallileo.

Non-sequitur.

As more and more data becomes available, the more the whole man-made global-warming theory crumbles.

In the case of the guys you invoked is concerned, the opposite happened - the date only strengthened the theory.

if we cut CO2 too much, we will kill off plant life since it "breathes" in our CO2

You should do some research on cellular respiration.

date = data

sorry

Temps are colder now than in the immediate past

Wow. That settles it.

Wait, it is warmer today than it was yesterday so I refute your claim!

Jeff,

My point was that there will always be someone entrenched on the other side of a theory that has an economic reason to block or promote the theory.

I love the screeching about how Al Gore made millions promoting global warming.

Big oil will make billions keeping global warming in doubt.

My point was that there will always be someone entrenched on the other side of a theory that has an economic reason to block or promote the theory.

Reconcile that with this:

Big oil will make billions keeping global warming in doubt.

Who makes money promulgating man-made global warming?

Which industries are competitive ONLY when this theory is viable and thus warrants massive subsidies and mandates in order to maintain their own existence? Follow the money - it's a great theory, one that I agree with, but it must be applied accross the board. In this case, it only further diminishes the man-made global-warming theory, when objectively applied.

What hubris that they think they can 'fix' global warming.

If ice degradation is due to "sublimation" then how will ocean levels rise?

It would fall as precipitation. Sublimation doesn't mean it goes away. Sublimation is basically evaporation, but bypassing the liquid state
