Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Monday, February 01, 2010

Fifty years ago today, Franklin McCain sat down at a "whites-only" lunch counter in Greensboro, N.C., with several other black students from N.C. A&T University. "That day, Feb. 1, 1960, was the best day of my life," he said. "And just for sitting on some dumb stool. It was a reaffirmation of who I am and what I'm supposed to be."

I think you mean Greensboro, NC.

'Sitting Down for Lunch Changed Man's Life'

He said 'Hold the mayo'.

I'll have a coke. And, let's see, where's the white women?

Richard Gregory had a great southern restaurant story. He ordered a fried chicken and when it arrived some good ol' "real Americans" came up to him and said, "whatever you do to that chicken, boy, we're gonna do to you."

So he picked it up and kissed its ass.

I was a kid in alabama during the civil rights struggles. I remember all the rednecks and what they were saying. They sounded exactly like the tea-baggers of today.

call it what you want to but hate is hate is hate.

Now, the ignorant people think the south is racist but the truth is, the south is where racism came to a head and was dealt with. I have never in my life seen any place as blatantly racist as the northern united states, and it's still true even when you throw texas in.

lipz -- I've always maintained that racism is everywhere in pretty much equal proportions. I've said pretty much what you pointed out -- it is more vocal and open in the south, making the south appear more racist. If people have personality flaws like racism, I prefer them to be in the open where I can see it and more effectively deal with it.

But as you say, if anyone denies that racism exists everywhere, they are deluding themselves. Thinking people know better.

Did he ever do anything else in his life besides sitting on a stool like holding down a mop and bucket job for example?

RCADE, the story link doesn't work.

Of course, it may just be fwthom's stench messing it up.

How 'elitist' of you.

This reminds me of that scene in Alien where the alien came out of the man's stomache. Of even better the satire of that scene in Spaceballs where the alien jumped out and starting singing Ragtime Gal.

Headline doesn't connect to an article.

Here's one.

www.news-record.com

McCain noticed a "little old white lady" sitting a few stools away and staring at him and McNeil. She was part of the "blue-haired mafia. She must have been about 200 years old." She was carrying a very large handbag, and as she got up and approached, McCain said he was fearful of what she might have had in it: knitting needles, razor blades ... "I thought this can't be good."

She put one hand on McNeil's shoulder and the other hand on his. "I said, 'Please Lord ..."

And she said, "Boys, I am so proud of you. I only regret that you didn't do this 10 years ago."

50 years ago the Greenboro 4 initiated a sit down strategy to protest the inherent racism and illegality of segregated dining.

The movement spread and within 5 months the policy had been reversed and the movement proved to be a catalyst within the burgeoning civil rights movement.

Now fifty years later America has an African-American POTUS.

Granted Obama recieves death threats on a regular basis largely from racist scum but that's still progress, innit?

Be Well.

What's wrong with someone cleaning up after others?

Nothing wrong with good honest work, except in the minds of someone who has never done it.

Has this Rosa Parks wantabe ever done any honest work such as scrubbing toilets since he sat on that stool fifty years ago. Just asking.

Mr McCain graduated from A&T with a degree in chemistry and biology. And worked for 35 years for the Celanese Corporation. Do your homework please

If this man wasn't black, you'd never have questioned his employment history, racist.

When libs are out of ideas, which is most of the time they resort to ad hominem attacks and the race card. I consider those frivolities a badge of honor.

If this man wasn't black, you wouldn't care who he is or what he did, hypocrite.

Fwthom, your balls called.
They're with your spine, wondering if you're ever going to show up.

You don't have the courage to truly stand by your question, and what you meant by it.
Instead you make it about "libs", and talk about "honor", as if you could ever know what that word means.

I am THETHOM you imposter!!

I asked the question because I wondered if the stool sitter went on to become a true race hustler like Sharpton and Jackson. I'm glad that he found honest employment.

They sounded exactly like the tea-baggers of today.

Are you kidding me, nice try, thanks for playing.

teabagger, teabagger, teabagger.......

This has been especially big news for people living here in the NC Triad. All over the news. The lawyer who represented them is still alive and spoke a bit about the whole thing on the news the other day.

But as you say, if anyone denies that racism exists everywhere, they are deluding themselves. Thinking people know better.

Always some prick that thinks they're better.

Shit-heap, I still don't care who this man is nor his job yet I don't feel it's my duty to belittle him because he pushes a mop for living.

Seems just pointing out that others question his employment history based on race really upsets the DR Klansmen.

Thanks for playing.

I ran out if ideas?

Seems you decided the content wasn't enough and decided to question his employment history based on race.

You all but admitted it in your #24 post. Thanks for confirming the previous assertion.

So there's nothing in my post that could even be construed as racist. Nor is there any accusation that you belittled him because he might have pushed a mop.

That means that you have a problem with reading comprehension, and that you're as quick to call anyone a racist as Jesse Jackson and the Good Reverend Al Sharpton.

You're in good company. Apparently, they don't understand simple things either.
