Thousands of protesters from across Japan marched today in Tokyo to protest against U.S. military presence on Okinawa, while a Cabinet minister said she would fight to get rid of a marine base Washington considers crucial.

I believe in the secret vote, howevere, theres is nothing wrong with people volunteering how they voted. I vote that we craft an exit strategy from Japan (and Germnay and South Korea among others).

For japan, the exit strategy is simple-sayanora.

Yes absolutely we need to get completely out of Japan. Let us show some respect for what they have become and quit occupying them to punish them for what they were. For Japan this is what I want. But for Germany, no, they are still not ready and maybe never will be, they have cultural self worship so built-in.

You know? I think you're right, but I'd rather think that they learned a lesson. However, 2 generations have passed... Hell The Democrats in the US forget everything in half a generation!

We've been protecting their skinny, Asian asses for too many years and all we've gotten from it is protests (and maybe some cars with bad accelerators. :-)). If they could run it I'd be for letting Korea take them over and get the country moving again. Every time I go to the dictionary to look up the word, "Deflation", there's a full page picture of Japan!

this is one place where we could save some money even though dems are in power...FOR THE MOMENT>.

there are plenty of reasons to stay in south korea but in japan...why?
remember being there is thier security..maybe they could pay for some of that.....

Get out of Japan, Germany, and S Korea.

Time to get out of Europe as well. They are all grown up now and can start spending their own money to defend themselves. It will be funny to see if they can afford all the wonderful social programs they brag about when they have to defend themselves

remember that in south korea.
THE WAR THERE IS NOT OVER....we are on a rather long truce....

I agree with you bph....

of course WILL they defend themsleves...not like they have a history in MODERN times anyway of having the stomach to do that.

Sure, let's pull out. We don't owe them anything. Let them defend themselves. I don't agree with using US soldiers as human shields to defend other countries anyway.

I just find it funny that Japanese would be the ones protesting this. Good luck dealing with North Korea......

another good point...

of course as I and other said at the time

japan should let north korea see nukes being sent in to thier ports......

and remember when it was japan that was going to buy all of america...and they didnt because they used OBAMA style economics and have been in the toilet ever since...........

Do I give a shit if europe protects themselves?

"Do I give a shit if europe protects themselves?"

You should give a shit that you pay for their protection now.

For long would Europe be able to keep their social(istic) model if they had to pay for their own defense? They are in enough trouble as is and all they do is leech off of us. Greece and Spain for instance are in bad shape. It could bring down the Euro currency if not handled right.

No more 6 week vacations, no more generous State benefits, nope, if they have to spend money on defense, kiss all that goodbye. And yet they hate us, not knowing they live confortably at our expense.

"No more 6 week vacations, no more generous State benefits, nope, if they have to spend money on defense, kiss all that goodbye. And yet they hate us, not knowing they live confortably at our expense."

It would be interesting to see if they could by with what they have militarily (not counting us). If you mind your own business, you don't need as big a military. Its not like anyone is looking to invade Europe. And they could always throw around the nukes. The only example I can think of recently where they really seemed to be concerned about their safety is when they feared the war in Bosnia was going to spread and they ordered Clinton to bomb the Serbs. And that was really unnecessary in the first place.

You should give a shit that you pay for their protection now.

They won't protect themselves unless we pull out, then it is questionable.

Really! Obama said he would get us out of Iraq and he gets us into Afganistan, why the hell are we the worlds police, get us out of europe , japan, iraq, afganistan, I am tired of my tax dollars protecting euro trash and freeing rag heads, this shit has got to stop we dont have the money if all americans woulds say fuck the irs, i aint paying, they can/wont deport 12 million illegal aliens what are they going to do with 50 million pissed off tax payers?

I would like to have port facilities in Japan, but no presence other than that.
Meaning, dock, maybe a 2 or 4 day R & R, and be on your way. No barracks.

Goat, (or any other Navy mo'...)
Is there a reason something like that couldn't work? Logistically I mean.

As for North Korea...I don't think Japan is in any danger of being invaded, and I doubt they'd need to invade NK. They have their own defensive measures, so let them bank on those.

Is there a reason something like that couldn't work? Logistically I mean.

It seems it would. When we were on a Middle East Cruise, we could pull into the same dock Djibouti for a couple of days to refuel and replenish every few weeks. There was no American infrastructure present.

They can trace a cow from Canada that has mad cow but they can' track illegals. You can bet they will track down taxpayers that don't pay.

Thanks.
If I'm not mistaken, the Japs problem with us is the Marines...
If we kept them on the ships, along with the sailors, the problem would be greatly reduced. If they got a couple of days R&R and stayed in hotels, hostels, or the ship the chaos would be slightly different.
They may not appreciate that either, but I think we need to maintain a naval port or two in that part of the world...

They can trace a cow from Canada that has mad cow but they can' track illegals.

The illegals keep pulling those tags off of their ears.

"If I'm not mistaken, the Japs problem with us is the Marines..."

Someone from South Korea once told me, "We like Americans, we just don't like the Marines...."

Well I told him Marines are Americans. Furthermore, these the the Ameircans who are willing to volunteer for a branch of the service where you may be stationed on a hostile border region protecting people who don't appreciate you. The average American wouldn't lift a finger to help you but those Marines are acting as your human shields. If you want American protection, thse are the people who are willing to protect your ass. Beggars can't be choosers but apparently they can be ingrates.

Same goes for Japan.

Yes absolutely we need to get completely out of Japan. Let us show some respect for what they have become and quit occupying them to punish them for what they were. For Japan this is what I want. We are not occupying Japan. We have no political power in that country. Politicians realize that Japan will have to spend billions on a military if we leave. Some just use it as wedge issue to get elected.Japanese companies make billions off the American military bases. What has japan become? It is a country where old men but the parties of Japanese school girls on the streets of Shinjuko. It is cultural acceptable for men to have young girlfriends from the office after the wife has popped out a couple of kids. There is a Mcdonalds on every corner in Tokyo. Wendy's, Burger King, Sizzler, and Red Lobster are considered American food.

I agree with you bph....

I am have total faith that the European Union will have to do what it needs to do to defend itself. If not. Then oh well

As P.J. O'Rourke once wrote, the most disturbing thing about the Japanese is we have used the atomic bomb twice on them with no apparent effect.

We need to get out of everywhere..
