The US is dispatching Patriot defensive missiles to Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait and keeping two ships in the Gulf capable of shooting down Iranian missiles, a move certain to increase tension between the US and Iran. Obama administration officials said the move is aimed at deterring an attack by Iran and reassuring Gulf states fearful that Tehran might react to sanctions by striking at US allies in the region.

Wow, Thank God Bush isn't still President. We'd most likely be deploying troops and missiles to countries all around Iran and force them to show the Bush their not afraid of him.

Morons. Wait until after the anniversary of the revolution to do this, if you must do it (which is arguable - it's a symbolic gesture). I doubt Khamenei and that short fucker will shut up about it, now. On the anniversary of the revolution they should be dealing with far more pressing matters, thanks to the greens. I guess the regime can thank the Obama administration for giving them something to yap about and use against the protesters.

No American "missile shield" works right.

This is only a pressure tactic.

The only thing that comes closest to a "missile shield" is the S-300 and now the new S-400 missile system (and it's Chinese versions).

It never misses an aircraft, will certainly get a cruise missile (if you have airborne radar) and will make a pretty good effort at intercepting a ballistic missile. It's the closest you can get to having a "missile shield". Far superior than PAC-3 kind of weapons.

Watch video at 2:50 minutes to watch the Chinese-Pak version of this missile system.

www.youtube.com

This thing does not miss. (one reason why we don't give a fuck about India and their threats after Bombay shooting)

Iran wants these s-300 and s-400 systems at all costs, but Russia won't give them those.

en.wikipedia.org

America has no equal to this. So excuse us for thinking Obama is full of shit. LOL

The S-400 Triumf (Russian: C-400 Триумф) is a new generation air defense system developed primarily by the Almaz Central Design Bureau as an upgrade of the S-300 family.

The S-400's NATO reporting name is SA-21 Growler, and the system was previously known as S-300PMU-3. It overshadows the capabilities of the other systems from the S-300 series, and its range is claimed to be at least two times the MIM-104 Patriot system's.[2][3]

According to Russian sources, the S-400 is capable of detecting and simultaneously engaging six targets[4] out to a range of 400 km (250 miles), including aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles up to the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty limits of a range of 3,500 km and a speed of 4.8 km/s[1].Furthermore, it is claimed to have heightened capabilities to counter stealth aircraft.[5][6][7] The S-400 is expected to be superseded by the future S-500 missile, with development expected to be completed by 2012.[4]
......................
A simplified version of the S-400 is also targeting the export market, with China reportedly already having spent $500 million on it. It has also been reported China may have been part of the development process.[13] Russia has also offered the system to the United Arab Emirates and Greece.[14] After showing of the S-400 during the IDEF 2009 in Istanbul Turkey has expressed interest in buying the system.[15]

Perhaps the biggest impact for in particular the United States is nations like Iran expressing interest in the system.[6] Vice Chairman of Russia's State Duma Vladimir Zhirinovsky has urged the fast delivery of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems to Iran. Such a move is likely seen as bolstering ties between Moscow and Tehran, something Washington has found difficult to deal with.[16]

If Iran gets the S-400... and if in the future, they get the "Raptorski" when it's ready... nobody will be able to do shit to them.

"US: War with Iran one step closer with today's deployment"

Talk about boolshit headlines. Where in the article does a spokesperson for the US claim war with Iran is "one step closer"?

Interesting how, when BreakfastTosser forces himself into a thread, most people just ignore him.

He's just tiresome and his posts are soooo, hmmmmm, smug and well, tiresome

I'm a charitable guy, so I guess that if I lived in a house made of twaddle (sticks, mud, shit) and could only post when my neighbor was gone and I could steal electricity, I'd want to puff up myself too.

After all, the neighbor will come home, the electricity will be gone, and Tosser is left in the dark to eat cold, greasy goat guts and rice.

So, when the candle burns down, and Tosser crawls under his camel hide and tries to ignore the never-ending smell of shit all around, he can feel superior.

YOU don't. LOL

They seem "tiresome" to you, is because they are "educational".... it takes powers of concentration that you lack, to make sense of.

I inform. I don't debate. I am pretty satisfied that whoever clicks on this thread, will read my posts and learn something new.

Replying to my posts is not required since I am not interested in whatever you think anyway. LOL

Would the term "One day closer" be more approprate.

I guess this thread got pulled already.

Here's an updated link.

www.cnn.com

RCade. Is there a reason this thread got pulled that I should know?

What do you mean "pulled"? I can see it still up on the back page.

LOL, I swear to god it wasn't there a minute ago.

Going blind......

Did I miss something? Obama was supposed to send Hillary to Iran to make things all warm and fuzzy again. Bilateral talks were going to set things straight. Of course we all said that was one of the more stupid things Obama was blithering about during the election, but the Great Messiah was going to make the US loved once again. I guess he hasn't apologized enough yet. Maybe he needs to go and bow before the Iranian officials. Or simply bend over once again.

Another lie told during his campaign. He never did sit down at the table and talk to these mis-guided leaders.

"US missile test mimicking Iran strike fails"

Hence the importance of testing. It's crazy-difficult to intercept a missile, so should we be shocked when something goes wrong?

#3 Tosser> It never misses an aircraft,

Has it ever been tested against advanced aircraft with a stealthy design? If not, your point is largely moot.

Tosser,

Did Omar R Q and NFP go to high school at the same time?

What is the state of current relations between the two?

"detering an attack from Iran", that's a laugh. Unlike the USA, Iran hasn't attacked anyone in 200 years. We have murdered their Democratically elected Presidents in order to install the Shah twice and are likely responsible for the current organized protests. The reason we were so sure Saddam Hussein had chemical weapons is we provided him the technology to gas Iranian troops (Germany provided the equipment in order to maintain an air of plausible deniability). Free and fair elections matter there, but not here. If we weren't so mean to them they wouldn't have to worry about defending themselves.

Meanwhile, Israeli troops attack Palestinian women and children, bulldoze their homes down, blockaide all free trade and takes their land one day and acre at a time. But in the USA this is characterized as "defending themselves" against merciless rocket attacks. Too sad to laugh about.

There is no evidence the patriot missile is an effective missile defense system.

Iran hasn't attacked anyone in 200 years.

Not counting Iraq or shipping vessels?

Iran hasn't attacked anyone in 200 years.

The US, 1977. (Embassies are considered to be the same as their own country)

Vern...

salad t0sser's "powers of concentration" are Freudian
for "calluses on my feet like a Sicilian pizza".

Iranian students took the US Embassy, one of whom happens to be their current President. What would you do if Iran tried to take over the USA (twice or thrice)? To characterize this as a military attack is absurd, though I do agree it was illegal. Bush/North seized on the event to help Reagan win the Presidency, committing high treason in the process. Who believes Patriot missiles would effectively defend against this situation?

...or how about the US Navy "accidently" shooting down a civilian Iranian airplane. This excuse makes as much sense as the bullshit Israel spews daily.

What would you do if Iran tried to take over the USA (twice or thrice)

Call in the calvary and make shock and awe look like a package of Black Cats.

obama = bush

Obushma....

"What would you do if Iran tried to take over the USA"

Show those fuckers the sleeping giant never went back to bed.

That's right...we only nodded of on our feet....

Maybe he needs to go and bow before the Iranian officials

Tt's a good thing that Beirut Bonzo is just a moldering corpse, otherwise the drooling geezer would ship missiles to Iran that could defeat the shield.

What would you do if Iran tried to take over the USA

Lol, thinking of a sequel for Red Dawn?

There is no evidence the patriot missile is an effective missile defense system.

There's plenty of evidence it's an almost useless piece of shit. It can shoot down a half-century old SS-1 though. Oh and make sure to reboot it every day or the amazingly stupid way it loses track of time will cause it to send the interceptor to the wrong place.

You know the Patriot uses the same microprocessor as the old TI-99/4A home computer? I'm amazed they can even hit a Scud with it.

There's plenty of evidence it's an almost useless piece of shit.

And Obama is so stupid he's sending batteries of them to the Persian Gulf. What a hoot! He should leave running the military to the generals. Obviously he is clueless

Did Omar R Q and NFP go to high school at the same time?

Is this a test of some kind? LOL

Omar was 4-5 years below Paracha and myself.

I didn't know he was alive and neither did Paracha.

What is the state of current relations between the two?

I don't think there is one. It might be "hello-hi" at the most.... no butt-buddy stuff.

And for crying out loud... PLEASE don't mention that person's name again. Paracha. I hate him. Thanks.

And Obama is so stupid he's sending batteries of them to the Persian Gulf. What a hoot! He should leave running the military to the generals.

Yes, I'm sure Obama is to blame that noone has designed, tested, and manufactured a better missile defense system in the year since he took office. I suppose he just woke up this morning and decided on a whim to send Patriots to the Gulf with zero consultation with the Pentagon.

Obviously he is clueless

He's not alone.

Has it ever been tested against advanced aircraft with a stealthy design?

Yes. Stealth drones.

And against ballistic missiles.

Also consider the fact these systems use phased-array L-band radars. American "stealth" aircraft are visible in L-Band. Your "stealth" only works in X-band radars or less.

The only thing that can handle L-Band is the Raptor... which Obama killed off.

decided on a whim to send Patriots to the Gulf with zero consultation with the Pentagon.

Even though American "missile shield" is a myth and their missiles are inferior to systems like the S-400 (see video link above) they CAN and DO blow up aircraft with 100% accuracy.

s, I'm sure Obama is to blame that noone has designed, tested, and manufactured a better missile defense system in the year since he took office

I didn't say that, snoofy. I said he was stupid to be sending useless weapons over there. It is antogonistic and for no reason. What is the net gain with that action? re-read my post

He's not alone.

No shit

What is the net gain with that action?

Posturing, not appearing "soft on terror" or whatever the right will undoubtedly accuse him of, throwing a bone to the AIPAC crew. There's plenty of gain.

Heck, maybe we'll even get to fire a Patriot at a missile that isn't a half-century old design.

You know, politics. I guess technically this would be geopolitics. Also known as being a "community organizer" on a slightly larger stage.

Posturing, not appearing "soft on terror"

Posturing. I like that newer, softer word. When Bush sent the Navy in it was called warmongering and sabre rattling. What a difference in language having a D instead of an R after your name makes. LOL

Call it what you like.

Though if you can't discern the subtle differences between the sort of warmongering that results in deploying some token defensive measures and the sort of warmongering that invades two countries, kills thousands of soldiers and orders of magnitude more civilians, and empties the treasury, well, your trolling is particularly infantile this evening.

Even for you.

Man, there's a lot of flustering, blustering and air-chair generalling going on in here, but you're all missing something very important.

We're not going to get into a land war with Iran anytime soon. If we get into a conflict with Iran, it will be a Naval conflict - and Iran will get their ass thoroughly kicked.

Just another FYI, when speaking of US ballistic missile defense systems, don't just speak of the Patriot system. There's another system that has been fielded for some time and is damned effective.

There's another system that has been fielded for some time

You're talking of AEGIS.

en.wikipedia.org

So far, it's been rubbish for any real world anti-ballistic missile role.

But better to have it around I suppose, than not to have it at all.

So - Obama is ratcheting up tensions but is going way short of actual action....as far as I can tell, this is sound strategy.

Iran's government is on the ropes. Ahmideniblowjob and the mullahs are despised by a majority of their populace. They are charging full-steam ahead toward the acquisition of a nuke and are rattling sabres to the nth degree. But, at the end of the day, they are largely a toothless tiger. It's about time they be put in their place WITHOUT actually firing a missile at them.

Kudos to the Obama administration on this - so far.

Another system is Israeli "arrow".... I think they incorporated arrow-technology into something they call "Iron Dome".

Again, not working as it should and easy to overwhelm or fool.

These systems exist as cash-cows for military contractors to milk the Govt. nothing more... and in this case for Israel to milk US by waving unworkable tech based on rigged and fake test results, under their nose. (US has given Israel a lot to develop Arrow)

At least the Arrow system uses L-Band radars. LOL

en.wikipedia.org

Hey Tosser, do you read anything but Wiki, which is written by anyone with an opinion?

Do all the online research about a system that you want. I'm actually out there with the systems while you're mulling the idea of either drinking your last half-liter of clean water or taking your bi-weekly bath in it while you sit on a street corner 'borrowing' someone's wi-fi.

Hey Tosser, do you read anything but Wiki

Of course.

But I quoted Wiki because I don't intend to go into too much depth since this is only a blog post.

you're mulling the idea of either drinking your last half-liter of clean water or taking your bi-weekly bath in it while you sit on a street corner 'borrowing' someone's wi-fi.

Ooooo.... I think I hit a nerve. LOL

Defensive much?

I'm actually out there with the systems

Yes, yes... everyone claims that "I'm in the middle of it all!" or "I've been working these things since I was a baby".

All bullshit, I'm afraid.

Like they say "on the internet, nobody knows you're a frog". LOL

I don't think so. We've always been friends with the Iranians and they with us. We allowed this "regime" to exist because they were useful (even now). They aren't going to do anything. If they do, it will be for show.

We've always been friends with the Iranians and they with us.

Yeah, the US was "friendly" enough to install the Shah.

We allowed this "regime" to exist because they were useful (even now).

How the hell is the Iranian government "useful" to anybody aside from rabid neocons who need a bad guy to keep people worried about? The US gained by letting Iraq and Iran duke it out in the '80's, but I don't think the US finds their government particularly useful. One thing is certain... the Iranian government sure as hell isn't useful to Iranians. They do Iran all the good of a melanoma.

They aren't going to do anything. If they do, it will be for show.

Now this, I agree with. Albeit for different reasons.

Tosser, how about you Wiki search 'mustang' to see what it means in military parlance? And I notice you didn't refute any of my assertions about your current circumstances. How appropriate that a card-carrying member of the Great Unwashed would be here touting the technological superiority of an oppressive Communist regime.

And I notice you didn't refute any of my assertions about your current circumstances.

And you didn't refute my assertion that you're a toad.

God you're childish...

You would rather derail this very interesting thread by discussing if I'm a "wifi thief" and if I bathe or not?

Oookay...

Is Tosser a wifi-thief?

Sometimes.... even though I have DSL of my own.

Is Tosser running out of drinking water?

No sir! Not when Tosser can always drink out of the toilet.

Does Tosser take a bath twice a week?

Tosser does not take "baths"! Do I look like Cleopatra to you??? Tosser takes a "shower" at least once a day!

Now lets get back to topic, shall we?

Oh and I know what a "mustang" is.

It means a military officer who started out as an enlisted man.

Is that right?

I still say yer a toad.

Refute THAT. LOL

NASA: Hubble sees rare asteroid crash

The odds of this happening are astronomical

AU -- yours is a dead link. And I was getting excited about reading the story!

Sorry, GOATMAN. I checked this one:

www.cnn.com

Cool picture. Imagine the odds of two asteroids colliding. They aren't a few feet apart like you see in the movies. (they could quickly clump together) They are move like hundreds of miles apart. That's why there is very little, if any worry from NASA when probes are sent through the asteroid belt.

Thanks for the link, AU!

Astronomical!

YW, man

Imagine the odds of two asteroids colliding.

I'm going to say those odds are quite good.

But the odds of us seeing it happen... not so good. Zero before we launched the Hubble.

"But the odds of us seeing it happen... not so good. Zero before we launched the Hubble."

Still pretty much zero... no one saw that live from Hubble. Just more space pictures.

I've looked at many incredible pictures of Saturn over the years. First artist's imaginings and later photo-enhanced probe images.

None of that compares to that fuzzy, greenish thing I saw in my C-8 the first time I looked at the actual planet with my own eye and some glass.

Are the American weapons there to protect the Arabs and Israelis from the Iranians or to protect the Iranians from the Israelis?

Also consider the fact these systems use phased-array L-band radars. American "stealth" aircraft are visible in L-Band. Your "stealth" only works in X-band radars or less.

^^^

Wow, nice to know that a billion or few bucks (ie, not just "one" plane) can be negated just by using a different radar.

Nope, no chance whatsoever of the enemy going to Lband...never in a million years....

Though, I do get the WTF about drones....stealth or not, they fly in nice straight lines from every test I've seen..no radical manuevers, no countermeasures (chaff and whatnot)...fine against ballistic stuff or limited manuverability things, but against a decent pilot with "some" warning, I cant imagine how it'd be much (if any) better than any other surface to air missle system based on radar.

How appropriate that a card-carrying member of the Great Unwashed would be here touting the technological superiority of an oppressive Communist regime.

You have to forgive him Mustang...Tosser has always suffered from Delusions of Grandeur. I think it is a Pakistani thing. It is how they talk. You have to admit that Youtube video was a great piece of Pakistani Propaganda.

Not as good as American stuff yet but good.

Are the American weapons there to protect the Arabs and Israelis from the Iranians or to protect the Iranians from the Israelis?

One would hope, both... nobody needs another war in the middle east.

nice catch AU! thanks for sharing that asteroid pic...
