Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The National Football League is claiming ownership of the phrase "Who Dat" and shutting down retailers selling shirts and other products emblazoned with the phrase in New Orleans, prompting Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) to send a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell urging the league to "drop this obnoxious" position. "Please either drop your present ridiculous position or sue me," wrote Vitter, who is producing his own "Who Dat" shirt to invite the league to challenge it in court.

Dumbshit Vitter should be working on solving national issues more and printing tee-shirts less.

I take that back, anything that takes this hypocritical two bit hack pol away from national issues the better.

This nation does not need anymore rethug policies to destroy it any further.

Lets concentrate on the BCS instead, eh?

Guess 2008 hadn't heard about that news yet...

Wonder who the chairman's gonna put in his brackets this year, too?

The NFL has responded to Vitter and said that it is only going after those merchandisers who use the term "Who Dat" or the fleur di lis only when those products contain or are advertised using other trademarks or identifiers of the Saints.

On that note:

Who dat, who dat, who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints!

Take a seat Freeney, you won't be missed.

This song is on the radio ALL the time, along with "Get Crunk". While it isn't as bad as the Prince Viqueens song, it is still annoying:

"NFL sues Quebec"

;)

Fuck the NFL!!!! What a bunch of dumb shits. They are even more stupid than the masses that worship them.

Yep, but they gots millions and millions and millions to sue the shit out of diaper vitter (pun intended). Right or wrong they have the cash to make him wish he never tried to take them on.

Can you imagine if the caveman that discovered fire was able to patent it?

This insanity is simply a result of our severely flawed social structure.

Doc, you are spot on. Imagine paying the NFL a royality every time you said that. I would guess the patent on fire would have expired by now but how long does a copyright last?

That is on the ASSumption that they win the lawsuit in the first place. They are a bunch of ASSclowns.

What a joke. NFL is just trying to ensure $$$ in it's pocket. If "who dat" is property of the NFL they better visit da ghetto and tell dem dat. It's an ebonics phrase. LONG in use and just recently claimed by the NFL for making $$$ since it's convenient. It's not like the team coined the phrase in reference to themselves or the NFL did either. NFL should be sued for trying to claim it now. It's public domain at this point. However expensive lawyers can sue anyone into the ground. That's why the NFL is as rich as it is - Suing anyone who opposes into the poor house. And now they can contribute to political campaigns too. Isn't life grand? Whatever happened to equal representation? It's more like corporate and special interest representation.

That is on the ASSumption that they win the lawsuit in the first place.

Have you seen the awards going out to RIAA?

Even if they don't they will appeal.

You can win either in a court of law or by making it so expensive the other side capitulates.

In other news, they are also working to trademark "whaddup" and "knowimsayin"

Exactly - No justice for those without deep pockets. Maybe Obama should take on lawyer wages after he is done with bankers. If there is no money in it for the laywers there will be a lot less of them.

I hope the Saints tell the NFL to shove it up their asses.

The No Fun League just wants the cash from the merchandise.

Further more, the NFl did not invent Who Dat. Saints fans did.

FYI: I'm not a Saints fan, although I will be rooting for them. It's just that this is the kind of bullshit the NFL pulls all the time. If I WAS a Saints fan I'd be pissed as hell.

If I WAS a Saints fan I'd be pissed as hell.

We are, but right now we are more focused on the SB!

Did the lawyers take bailout money?

It is not who invents anything, it is who trademarks it first.

Did the lawyers take bailout money?

A lot of the banks didn't either.

I say, line them up and shoot every other one. There are way too many in the US.

Roger Goodell is nothing more than a pimp for a bunch of rich old white guys trying to make some quick cash. I personally admire David Vitter for basically telling him to go fuck himself. And that the people of Louisiana don't really give a damn about him or his lawsuits.

Saints win 38-21.

Hallmark is going to file for a trademark on "I Love You."

They have been making "black Code" rules for years.

I fully spupport this move.

If I WAS a Saints fan I'd be pissed as hell.

Thats what I'm screamin' Taxman..

Go Saints!

Who Dat!

Who dat say "Who dat?" when I say who dat?

Is a line much much older than football, let alone the NFL.
This is absurd.

I want the Saints to win so badly but I have a nagging doubt that they will.

But I'll be rooting for them!!

But I'll be rooting for them!!

Just curious, Lisa. Why do you want the Saints to win?

Is it because they were the underdogs for so long?

You like New Orleans?

GEAUX SAINTS

How retarded!!! The people in Louisianna have been saying who dat long before recently. I graduated in 83 from East Ascension High School and they were using the term way back then. Goodall needs to be told to go fuck himself. It's as legit as Donald Trumph trying to claim ownership of "Your Fired!"

Lonnie

We support these NFL fuckers with our taxes and stadiums and subsidize the dumb fucks who play for them. So they have the audacity to claim they own and can control street language?

The entire concept of pro sports is about keeping average Americans stupid and occupied, while the owners tap into our taxes and give freebies to the politicians who help. I don't waste my time with it.

Well, shit, McDonald's has got "I'm Lovin' It" and Coke has got "It's the Real Thing" so why not let the NFL have what they want since they are an important corporation. They have spent a bunch of money and their corporate money talks louder than just a bunch of average humans using a language.

This situation is sickening. This kind of thing is not like "Nothing Runs Like a Deere" or "99-44/100 pure," "Put a Tiger in Your Tank," or "A Little Dab'll Do Ya." Nowadays trademarks are actually appropriating normal everyday language. Good Grief.
