I have an underground wire locator with a handheld transponder that looks suspiciously like a radar gun. I've sat by the highway watching cars (eating lunch, really) until I see one obviously speeding then point it at them..hilarious! I've had them slam the breaks on hard enough to slide a little....

Hey, A1

Just been going over this thread and hadn't seen your post or listened to your "sitting here drinkin..." song until just now.

When I hit the road soon, if I ever make it out Kentucky way I'll let you know. Maybe you and Mrs. A1 can show me around some local pubs and I can hear for real how some of these Kentucky and good ol' boy local bands play their banjos and fiddles.

And don't worry. I won't embarrass y'all by putting in a request for the bands to play "California Dreaming" or "Surfin' USA." LOL

I think that's what's know as the "generation gap."

You don't know what your missing, kid. LOL

But, hey, I like Kid Rock too.

The Geenration Gap doesn't affect everyone equally. Rod Stewart is cool.

FF!

"Can't find my way home" has always been one of my favorites.

The song's just like me -- an oldie but a goodie. lol

One more turn then I've got to get busy around here --

man, I love these music threads -- great tension reliever and lots of fun

How true!

"Maggie Mae" -- you're right. Definitely a classic!

You have exquisite taste there, Member2586! lol

One who truly loves music won't insist on confining their listening pleasure to only a generational time nor to only one type of music. I love country western, classic rock and roll, big band, even some rap tunes -- pretty much all kinds of music except I've never been an opera music or jazz fan.

CC, if you want bluegrass, try Renfro Valley Bluegrass Festival June 19th/20th this year, or, later in the year, Poppy Mountain

If you want something earlier in the year, try our Vandalia Gathering at the end of May.

Here are the 4 winning lies from the 2008 liars contest. Some of the DR crowd may wanna practice up and come in here and cleanup in the Liars contest at Vandalia......Haha!

opps, Truthhurts -- my misunderstanding. You mean you aren't some 25 yo punk? LOL

When you didn't like Rod Stewart I just assumed you were in the "under 30" crowd -- like Legio and LiveandDie.

Now I see from your comment it was just a different taste for a particular musician -- not any generation gap. Mea culpa

See y'all later. Really need to get busy now. So, Truthhurts, how about we continue our conversation on differing musical tastes a little later, okay? I'll bet we're in 90% agreement when it comes to the music we like.

Actually, the only music I can't stand are most of Rex's songs -- macabre hard, headbashing, punk rock (is that the right description to give it?)

SORRY, Rex. LOL No insult meant!

A1

Thanks for your #95 info -- I love bluegrass.

I've saved this thread so I can refer back to the dates you gave. I'll be out of California by June.

You still going to that dump, Texas, Christine?

Truthhurts --

did someone say big band?

Aw, Truthhurts, you inadvertently brought back some big time memories for me with your Buddy Rich video. *tear*

My Dad loved music and Buddy Rich was his favorite drummer.

He liked Buddy Rich so much my Dad went out and bought one of these to play around on -- including a real snare and cymbol to pound away on. At first it drove my Mom nuts. lol I mean my Dad was in his 60s at the time -- not some teenage kid with a garage band! But he loved it so she didn't mind. He only played in the back room den anyway.

I've packed away his drumsticks to take with me when I move -- sentimental fool that I am.

Nulli --

You still going to that dump, Texas, Christine?

At this point I'm not 100% sure where I'm going, to be honest, but the house is just about ready to go on the market so need to make up my mind for sure fairly quickly. Would have been able to spend more time researching where to move but had some issues (and the ones who caused them) to deal with here first. Long story.

Anyway, as to where I'm moving...

Texas seemed like an interesting state -- suppose to have a low cost of living, lots of jobs, and a wide variety of everything. When I had considered moving to San Antonio, Texas, I looked at Craig's List to see what the city had in the way of apts to rent. The prices are okay -- much cheaper than in CA. But God knows where in the city the places to rent are located or who's renting them. It's like throwing a dart at a map. lol Here's a sample of what they had to offer --

Craig's List

But now that it's really close to my moving out of CA -- within 3 months max and likely much sooner -- sorta having second thoughts as to maybe I should be looking not just at more cities in Texas in which to relocate but maybe ought to be checking out a few more states before deciding. I just hope I'll pick the right place. It's such a major decision to have to make.

Soooo, you want to go on a road trip with me, Nully? *grin*

I'll rent an RV and pay you to do the driving if you'll help me in finding a place to move.

We can blog our "road trip adventure" here on DR. LOL

Of course you'd have to drive around Texas, and in some places in the South along with some Midwestern states until I found where I wanted to live. But knowing you I'm not so sure you enjoy a roadtrip through that part of the USA.

Just having some fun with ya, Nulli. lol

Anyway, I'll let you know for sure as soon as I know. Things are now on speed dial.

Move to the country, Chris...the pace may seem too slow at first, but it's a lot less stressful than living in the city. I don't care if I never see another big city again.

One thing I have to warn ya about, though...when you get out in the country, the silence is deafening...

You should get Nullifidian to drive you all the way to Alaska. Too bad there isn't a brdge or tunnel to Hawaii or else I would also suggest taht too. Once you get up there you say, "no, not my cup of tea, let's go back."

LOL!

Another consideration you should make about mvoing is how it will affect your DR handle.
