Frank Rich: It was not a referendum on Barack Obama, who in every poll remains one of the most popular politicians in America. It was not a rejection of universal health care, which Massachusetts mandated (with Scott Brown’s State Senate vote) in 2006. It was not a harbinger of a resurgent G.O.P., whose numbers remain in the toilet. Brown had the good sense not to identify himself as a Republican in either his campaign advertising or his victory speech. And yet Tuesday’s special election was a dire omen for this White House.

Rich is full of it. I guess his head is plugging a real good movement.

Racism: Angry European-American males rejecting an African-American President.

Be Well.

How did Rich manage to write his crap and keep his head in the sand at the same time???????????

385, it's called Pure F****** Magic (PFM).

"I don't have a very high opinion of Mr. Obama," Faber said. "I was negative of Mr. Bush, but I think Mr. Obama makes him look like a genius. Basically I think everybody will agree that in an economic system the market solves problems best."

Speaking of the messiah and his 'fight against too big to fail'.....

I guess FNM, FRE, GM, GMAC, and Chrysler were too big to fail to heh?

Does that mean ALL large US corps should be broken up, because they are too big to fail.

It's funny when the zero plays with words, and contradicts himself IN THE SAME SENTENCE.

Time to break up all the top 10 companies in America?

By market cap

Exxon
MSFT
GE
JPM
PG
JNJ
APPL
ATT
IBM

By employees
1. Wal-Mart Stores

6. General Electric
2. Exxon Mobil

7. Ford Motor
3. Chevron

8. Citigroup
4. General Motors

9. Bank of America
5. ConocoPhillips

10. AT&T

Time to break up all the top 10 companies in America?

Federal government first.

It's incoherent to think ray that the gov wants to bust up the banks they helped create, using their own rules.

Geitner and Bernacke must be speechless.

Instead of turning to jpm , for help next time they can go to

Industrial and Commerce bank of China, the Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, and China Construction Bank.

the Volcher Rule.He wields that like a huge bat, right upside america's head. No discussion, just more of Obama's way of governing.

How does the executive branch make rules over the legislature?

There is no reason to break up any companies. Simply allow them to do business. If they fail they fail. The bailout was nothing more than a purchase of votes. The government paid for the union and wall street vote w/ our money.

corporate democrat = republican

It's incoherent to think ray that the gov wants to bust up the banks they helped create, using their own rules.
Geitner and Bernacke must be speechless.

It only appears that way. According to one source with good instincts, the executive branch wants more control over the Federal Reserve system. We'll have to see how far they go.

"How does the executive branch make rules over the legislature?"

By scaring voters. We were all told how the banks would fail and could not lend money. So, the government bails out the banks and the banks still have yet to release any of that money to the private sector. They simply hold on to the money and invest in other areas. Then we were told how all of these middle class union workers would lose their jobs if GM was not bailed out. Why not reward a company like Ford who did not require a bailout and allow them to prosper through tax cut rewards w/ the bailout money to grow. It's all about keeping the status quo.

"corporate democrat = republican"

they are all simply different sides of the same coin. To pretend anything different is delusional or partisan. They all buy votes for themselves. Every last one of them!

"corporate democrat = republican"

It should say corporate democrats and corporate republicans that look to government for favors = LEACHES

there are no real liberals in power nor corporate media.

not one.

I think this article is living proof that someone with a nice suit and a large vocabulary can still be an imbecile. This guy should be driving a beer truck and not writing for any paper (sorry to those who do drive beer trucks.I know you are all more intelligent than this clown).

Obama has his surrogates go forth and create a story. He then waits to see reaction to the same. If no reaction forthcoming, he takes it and runs with it. If there is a negative reaction he pivots and rejects it as NOT his idea. Clinton was famous for the same thing, but they ALL have done it! And the HALF TRUTHS could fill a book!

Obama wanted Single Payer throughout his campaign, sorry Mr. Davis it's on record!

But let's see, in Massachusetts, she ran as a Kennedy look alike (whatever he/they do, I will do), and he ran as a proponent of changing the status quo. Which one would be a Democrat and who's the Republican? I think it would be relatively easy to discern a difference there!

Not Obama himself, but the Liberal policies and the way the are presented. No true discussion, dead of night negotiating, back room deals! You know, the usual stuff!

Thank GOD for C-SPAN and TRANSPARENCY! Oh, I'm sorry, they weren't used, were they!

Does this mean MEDICARE is safe for another three - four weeks?

Obama has a problem--his split personality---which one will he move to: the neomarxist side or the narcissistic pragmatist---from some of the weekend soundbites it sounds like he verbally is moving to the narcissistic pragmatist---talking about getting a commission together to look at how the budget can be brought under control (probably be one of his "state of the union talking points". His minions talked big after Massachusetts but watch these folks do a fast shuffle in a different direction (at least verbally and possibly through their gift of constructing smoke and mirrors.

obama doesn't have split personality. he has politics. that's it. if it flies it flies.

completely meaningless posturing.

corporate marketing cocksucker.

Yet another progressive that gets some of it:

www.commondreams.org

Obama's State of the Union:

Foreign policy---I'll continue being Bush 2 although I'll throw a bone to the left once in awhile like closing Gitmo (even though I haven't made my timeline, yet) and moving terrorist trials under our court system. Every decision will take me months to make since I'm not a leader and uncomfortable with pointing a direction

Domestic policy---I really didn't have one and don't have one---I'll have to have my political advisors see what the heck happened in Massachusetts and then have a committee (through congress) set up to see what to do with the budget--that way I don't have to be a leader and hopefully none of the decisions made will stick to me---I'll continue to abrogate my responsibility to congress.

I'll continue to do what I do best---read teleprompters and use my rhetorical and oratorical skills to continue to dupe Danni, Dethspud, etal as long as I can get away with it.

People now are starting to realize we elected an empty suit hta's in waaaay over his head.

The Lib's dream of Utopia is just that, a dream.

We have a one party rule that is totally corrupt, has bankrupted this county and has "bought" enough of the sheeples votes though welfare handouts and promises of even more free-be's to keep them in power for a very long time. Hey, WTF, it's not their money!

The really sad part of it is that dirt bags like F. Rich will not question or dig into this corruption but play along and continue the "It's All Bush's fault" line. (Which got old 6 months ago.)

Pray for our Republic my friends for we have three more years of our POTUS and Congress trying to destroy our capitalist system.

Peace

Shaped by his surrogate father and communist mentor, Frank Marshall Davis

Whose first campaign for political office was launched by Maoist anarchists William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn

Whose political career has been stewarded by the likes of Leftists Richard Daley, Michael Pfleger, Khalid al-Mansour, Rashid Khalidi, et al.

Don't forget his religious mentor, Jeremiah Wright , who married Barack and Michelle and baptized their children. Wright preached hate, plain and simple: "The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government gives [black people] drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strikes law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, g-d d--- America. G-d d--- America for treating our citizens as less than human. G-d d--- America." Wright sermonized that our great nation is in fact the "U.S. of KKK-A" and is "controlled by and run by rich white people. Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in god. And god has got to be sick of this sh-t!"

How did Obama respond when asked about his pastor's perennial anti-American tirades? "It sounds like he was trying to be provocative," concludes Obama.

At a foundational level, Obama's ability and his agenda have been shaped first and foremost by his condition as a pathological narcissist , a young man driven by a blinding need for acceptance and its coefficient, power -- the result of a childhood characterized by his father's, and then stepfather's, rejection. It should be noted that the young Barry Obama did not ask for or deserve the hardship he suffered as a child any more than millions of other children abandoned by their fathers today. In that respect, he deserves our compassion.

However, Obama's insatiable pathological need for power renders him a very dangerous person in power. He was elected on a promise that should have served as a warning sign: "This is our moment, this is our time to turn the page on the policies of the past, to offer a new direction. We are fundamentally transforming the United States of America." He ran his charismatic campaign on a promise of "hope," but in the words of Patrick Henry, "It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth -- and listen to the song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts."

As for "fundamentally transforming" our nation, that is a thinly veiled reference to an outright assault on our Constitution and our Essential Liberty , one that thrusts an ever more powerful central government upon us. Not since 1860 has the Union been at such odds with the fundamental rights of the States and the People. Obama's effort to endow the central government with absolute authority follows his Socialist political playbook, Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals."

Further, Obama's national security failures present even greater peril to life and liberty. Coddling Islamic extremists, bowing to Saudi kings, apologizing to the world, politicizing terrorist interrogation methods at Gitmo, treating terrorism as "criminal activity" and moving the trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to New York, using Operation Enduring Freedom as campaign fodder and setting a timeframe for withdrawal from Afghanistan -- these and many more grossly errant policy decisions served only to hinder and demoralize us and our allies while empowering and emboldening our enemies, thus enabling jihadi attacks such as the murder of 12 soldiers, one civilian, and an unborn baby at Ft. Hood, and the narrowly averted bombing of a U.S. airliner this past Christmas Day.

Of course, there were other ridiculous gaffes, like the one at his last public press conference (six months ago), when he offered his impromptu assessment of the arrest of his friend, Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, by claiming that the Cambridge Police "acted stupidly ." His subsequent "beer summit" was a forced and feeble attempt at damage control.

And then there was the Nobel Peace Prize, a ridiculous Euro-leftist albatross of an award that was bestowed upon Obama just days after he ascended to the presidency. Were it not for the threat of unbridled laughter, Obama's SotU address might also reflect on some of the most egregious prevarications from his brief tenure.

On his plans for massive government expansion: "Not because I believe in bigger government -- I don't."

On his grand Socialist schemes: "I've never bought into these Malthusian, woe, Chicken Little, the earth is falling -- I tend to be pretty optimistic."

On the so-called "stimulus package" (i.e., record debt): "Less than one month after taking office, we enacted the most sweeping recovery package in history, and we did so without any of the earmarks, pork-barrel projects that are usually accompanying these big -- these big bills."

On bailouts for behemoth auto producers: "Let me be clear. The United States government has no interest in running GM. We have no intention of running GM."

On his friends at ACORN: "You know, it's -- frankly, it's not really something I've followed closely. I didn't even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money."

On blame shifting: "You haven't seen me out there blaming the Republicans."

On taxes: "I will tax just the rich. I want to give a tax cut to the middle class."

On the cost of ObamaCare: "It won't add to the deficit. And I mean it! ... It's designed to lower it!" And how about this one: "I have not said I am in favor of a single-payer system."

On the transparency of his health care "reform" deliberations: "It's going to be on C-SPAN."

On jobs (record unemployment): "My administration has created or saved... [ad nauseam]." (2)

On the political influence of grassroots Tea Party participants: "Those people waving their little tea bags around..."

dave. you are an assclown.

my statements here stand.

"The same thing that swept Scott Brown into office swept me into office," said Obama. "People are angry and they're frustrated, not just because of what's happened in the last year or two years but what's happened over the last eight years."

Got it. People are so angry and frustrated at George W. Bush that they're voting for Republicans. In Massachusetts. Boy, I can't wait for that 159th interview."

Whatever dude....maybe it's just his telepromter that's keeping him from speaking to the people

"Howard Fineman, the increasingly loopy editor of the increasingly doomed Newsweek, took it a step further. The truck wasn't just any old prop but a very particular kind: "In some places, there are codes, there are images," he told MSNBC's Keith Olbermann. "You know, there are pickup trucks, you could say there was a racial aspect to it one way or another."

Ah, yes. Scott Brown has over 200,000 miles on his odometer. Man, he's racked up a lot of coded racism on that rig. But that's easy to do in notorious cross-burning KKK swamps like suburban Massachusetts."

"Let me be clear"

Trucks are racist????? I guess 40oz. bottles are racist too. Why isn't Obama on Tv drinking out of a 40.

Aren't you one of the ones saying "let them fail?"

Wouldn't that also have cost the everyday mutual fund investor?

Cudos to Rich. Dancing on a pin ain't easy and he's trying to do it.

Cramer's Mad Money: The 1,000 Point Obama Correction (1/22/10)

Cramer could be right on this one---DOW 9500 and then a question of whether it holds.

People talk about a V recovery but I wouldn't be surprised if we have a reverse V or tent---the 4th and 1st quarters should show decent GDP growth but then after that it should moderate since most of the recovery is probably inventory rebuilding,. The dollar should then start weakening again.

If SPX breaks 1085 Look Out Below
Lack of Confidence abounds,do not doubt that

How can any rational person think that a president's policies can be so unpopular, yet he remain popular and admired?

Fact is we live in a politically correct world today where everyone is so afraid of being called a racist that they would not say out loud what they really think of this failure of a president.

Why would any sane person tell a complete stranger on the phone who calls himself a "pollster" that he thinks BO is a gargantuan failure as a president and can't stand him for what he is doing to this country.

How can anyone "like and admire" a president who has sunk the economy with his policies, taken over the banks (even when they didn't want it or wanted to pay back their loan) and the auto industry, wants to regulate the financial services sector and tell people what they can earn, wants to nationalize our health care system (and, by extension, our personal bodies over which bureaucrats would have control over our very lives... or deaths!), raise our taxes, increase environmental regulations on all of us and by the way, raise taxes some more, trashes us to the rest of the world, sends terrorists to trial in NY with all the rights of American citizens, (at our multi-million dollar expense) when they could be tried in military court, refuses to interrogate completely such lovelies as the underwear bomber so we can find out what else is planned for us by his buddies in the middle east, and EVERY TIME he opens his mouth the DOW drops 200 points.

On top of all this, the only jobs being formed are parasitical-on-the-private- sector government jobs while an effective 17% Unemployment rate has taken hold of our private sector economy. Just today, Walmart let 10,000 people go. But, Washington, DC is experiencing a bit of a boom economy!

Under this guy, our country is swirling the drain.

SO WHATS TO NOT LIKE! The polls lie because the people can't admit they can't stand this guy.

Right.. it's not a referendum on Obamanomics. Uhh, yea, OK.

Someone should tell Rich that polls of "Americans" are useless (unless your goal is to skew results to the LEFT).

Polls of VOTERS and LIKELY VOTERS all have Obama/socialism heading south (example: Rasmussen and Zogbie polls) --- Ahh, those pesky facts.

You believe your own lies don't you? tea Baggers are as grass roots as you get. Unlike Acorn funded protests, these are real people with legit gripes. Mock and ignore them at your own peril.

In fact your dear leader seems to be an expert at mocking and trivializing the opposition. He has blaming bush down to science. Yet he can see no harm in Acorn, ""You know, it's -- frankly, it's not really something I've followed closely. I didn't even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money."....in fact he can't even remember what they do! same with Jimmy Wright. "What did he say Michelle?"

You guys are too much, the state has 80% dem elected leaders. It's the bluest of blue.

Ohhhh that's right it was their anger with GW that made them vote against BHO and his backroom HC plan...

The "American automobile industry: gone overseas.

The "American steel industry: gone overseas.

The "American" manufacturing industry: gone overseas.

The "American" financial industry: now going overseas.

And these industries were destroyed by who? Democratic politicians and their union thugs.

Why does EVERYTHING Democrats touch, turn into shit?

"The Obama administration is so overstocked with Goldman Sachs-Robert Rubin alumni and so tainted by its back-room health care deals with pharmaceutical and insurance companies that conservative politicians, Brown included, can masquerade shamelessly as the populist alternative"

Nothing makes the American public more upset than corruption cronyism.

I love George W Bush but his problems of "circling the wagons" and not listening to outside advice were a big part of his downfall.

Go Obama go! Please don't stop, please don't change, don't give in. You are right, so power to you. Everything you touch is golden and so just keep on task with your agenda. It would be a disaster to move to the center for you, and might even put your legacy in jeopardy if you do. You are the most popular president ever and everyone loves your agenda, or will some day. Good Lord keep going and never quit or change. Go campaign with all the dems to help them out, they need your Midas touch, so make sure to campaign in person with every dem up in November. Make sure you are seen on tv with the candidate, then speak your agenda. Please, please, please Obama. Go Obama! Never quit, never give in, never give up (especially on health care, cap and trade, global warming, and stimulus packages).

A half quote from a half wit?

That figures.

Actual quote...

"Those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I'm not very popular, and you see folks waving tea bags around, Obama said, "let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security."

"But," Obama continued, "let's not play games and pretend that the reason [for the deficit] is because of the Recovery Act."

Dave #28...
Excellent post!

I was at Scott Brown rally - front and center at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA 2 days pre-election.

Most electricity of any event of the kind, I've ever attended. It was REAL. It was GRASSROOTS. Not like the ginned-up, phoney baloney horseshit down the road for Coakley. Obama (Can he put a freaking tie on for Christ's sake? He's the PRESIDENT!) struggled to remember what state he was in. Teddy K's son repeatedly referred to Martha Coakley as MARSHA, etc. It was a bad Saturday Night Live skit.

Brown rolled, in a sickly Dem state -- but remember, it's not a referendum on Obama and socialist policies!

Proud to be called "Tea Bagger" by Libs....
