Big difference between advocating solely private charity donations, and aid provided by the US government. Which is the point of this thread.

This is fine, however, I think that each time the Federal Government takes it upon itself to allocate aid to some foreign body, it should deduct that from any running total upon which they estimate the taxes on the citizens. If they want to spend it, that is fine, however they better not charge us for it.

I watched hope for Haiti last night and donated 100 bucks. I am just so happy a liberal like Clooney organized this. Republicans all over have been saying fuck them. Republicans only see them as poor minorities that should be left to die. I guess liberals will have to do the heavy lifting as usual. If there is a hell you will find 99% of republicans there in the afterlife.

The problem is this.

We're not simply spending tax dollars.

We are spending debt dollars.

Did I hear that we (the Federal government) has given 3 billion to Haiti? And that the Haitian government (it's leader's) have stolen 800 then 300 milion dollars.

I have donated funds (through my church) to help in Haiti.

Perhaps if we make sure people like Paul Bremer stay far, far away from Haiti it won't turn into something like the amazingly corrupt Iraq REconstruction Fund. If I see pallets of cash being distributed without any documentation I will know he is there.

Fine the next time you go to a hospital just remember that quite a few hospitals would not be in existance were it not for Christians. No more St. Mary's, St. Vincient's, Methodist Hospital etc et al

Guess what, many missionaries teach those poor downtrodden people skills that they wouldn't have otherwise. My uncle in SC used to go to Hondorous and teach masonary skills to them. Did he talk to them about God and Jesus? Well duh that was certainly the point. Did he teach them to build schools and houses? Well duh that was also the point.

So get off your high horse about religion.
The 'Established Charity' that my church is using will see that 100% of the funds are used in Haiti. How you ask? Easy churches support the foundation that sends the missionaries so when they go for a specific purpose all the donations go for that purpose.
What percentage does your 'established charity' send to Haiti(in this case)? 80%? 50%? 20%?
