Robert Parker, 77, the author of the popular Spenser novels about a hard-nosed Boston private investigator, has died in Cambridge, Mass., of natural causes. A spokeswoman for the Cambridge Police Department says an ambulance was sent to Parker's home Monday morning after reports of a sudden death.

Damn.

Eric Segal just died. I guess death means you never have to say your sorry.

Too bad, a death too soon.

He had promised to keep writing them as long as people wanted them! He should have been immortal!

Thank you Mr. Parker for many pleasant days spent in the company of Spenser, Hawk, Susan, and Pearl and some of the finest cops and criminals in the world of fiction.

Did some very captivating and entertaining work. What's amazing is he had a PhD degree in English lit and remained far better that simply readable. It's my understanding he checked out while writing. Spenser I'll miss, Hawk at least as much, to say nothing of the long-suffering Susan. Thanks, sir. RIP.
