Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The FBI illegally collected more than 2,000 U.S. telephone call records between 2002 and 2006 by invoking terrorism emergencies that did not exist or simply persuading phone companies to provide records, according to internal bureau memos and interviews. FBI officials issued approvals after the fact to justify their actions. E-mails obtained by The Washington Post detail how counterterrorism officials inside FBI headquarters did not follow their own procedures that were put in place to protect civil liberties. FBI general counsel Valerie Caproni said in an interview Monday that the FBI technically violated the Electronic Communications Privacy Act when agents invoked nonexistent emergencies to collect records.

And nothing will be done about it.

And nothing will be done about it.

Exactly. As impeachable and corrupt as everyone says President Bush was in 50 years the text books won't mention it...because the Dems never acted on it.

FBI illegally collected more than 2,000 U.S. telephone call records between 2002 and 2006 by invoking terrorism emergencies that did not exist or simply persuading phone companies to provide records

Of course, all this corruption ended when the Anointed One was signed into office.

Still the brainless partisan.

Of course, all this corruption ended when the Anointed One was signed into office.

Well post your facts that it hasn't.... otherwise it is just conjecture on your part.

Jimmy purports that the Anointed One cleaned it up?

Let's see. Obama, contrary to his candidating for the Presidency, continued FISA and has advocated quietly for re-authorization of the Patriot Act, which was the primary pretext for perpetrating these crimes.

Jimmy purports that the Anointed One cleaned it up?

Never said that. All I asked is for proof that O has gone around the FISA courts and violated the law.

It is clear that you have no proof to offer.

Your analogy is akin to saying that because I renewed my drivers license I am speeding right now.

Nice try Jimmy. You did notice that this news comes out just now related to the 2002 to 2006 time frame? If you hide behind the fact there is not a smoking gun as of today, you deceive yourself. Stay tuned.

Your turn. What can you show that would back he HAS cleaned up OR even would want to clean up the reported corruption?

How bout some proof?

You are awful big on pointing fingers, but light on the proof to back up your accusations.

I don't trust government any further than I can throw them, but I will not convict anyone without proof.

Some proof? Any?

That's what I thought.

l_contrarian has no proof, only more motor mouthing from the right. Some things will never change.

FISA is not the culprit anyway. It was the FBI under the direction of a corrupt president and vice president. The Patriot act was not the culprit either, that's why the allegation was made that the phone tapping was illegal. Bush placed himself above the law and that is the issue, not the laws that were broken.

l_contrarian is just trying to make excuses where there is no excuse. It's the usual right wing response these days.

Jimmy so when there was no proof that bush did it just conjecture you were all about innocent till proven guilty then too?

Here's what Barack Obama said about the Patriot Act and civil liberties in 2005:

Here's what he's done in office in 2009:

Any questions?

If this were a Democracy, why would power and wealth be entitled to fraud, murder and retroactive immunity?

We are in decline, the rats are leaving the ship and taking everything they can with them.

And Roosevelt didn't do this during WWII. Ok, whatever.

What a fool!

Exactly. As impeachable and corrupt as everyone says President Bush was in 50 years the text books won't mention it...because the Dems never acted on it.

Dems?
This isn't a partisan issue.
The American people sat on their a$$e$ watching cable TV, ESPN, American Idol.

People get the government they deserve.

Dems and Repubs are wings of the same vulture, nothing less and they are feasting on the dead rotted carcass of what was once a nation full of honorable men.

Who didn't know this?
Oh, right...Bush Sycophants.

FISA is not the culprit anyway. It was [just] a corrupt president and vice president. The Patriot act was not the culprit either

How is it inside your partisan dream world, Ring?

You'll have to excuse Ring. Man-made GW isn't a globalist hijacking corruption either to Ring.

yes, but I want mine, too!

"FBI illegally collected more than 2,000 U.S. telephone call records between 2002 and 2006 by invoking terrorism emergencies that did not exist or simply persuading phone companies to provide records"

what else is new? But thanks for the reminder!

"Of course, all this corruption ended when the Anointed One was signed into office.

Bush is no longer President, let it go. I do love your try at deflection though.

The economy sucks, TARP and ARRA are not working, we just lost the murderers senate seat... wait, look what Bush did...... Too freeking funny.....

For some reason I do not get that "special" CSPAN channel that the messiah promised the health care debates would be televised on.

Let's see. Obama, contrary to his candidating for the Presidency, continued FISA and has advocated quietly for re-authorization of the Patriot Act, which was the primary pretext for perpetrating these crimes.

Organizing for America/FactCheck [what's wrong with this picture?]

Rhetoric: "Sen. Obama Promised to Support Repealing PATRIOT Act, Then Voted to Extend It"

[OFA] Reality: Obama Has Consistently Said He Would Support A Patriot Act That Would Strengthen Civil Liberties Without Sacrificing The Tools That Law Enforcement Needs To Keep Us Safe

Youtube: Obama Town Hall
"First thing, I will reverse the worst Bush executive orders that violated civil liberties. I will revese them with a stroke of a pen. That's how the worst abuses happened. That happened in Guantanamo, warrantless wiretaps, suspension of habeas corpus, rounding up of Muslims".

Reality: Youtube (MSNBC) Obama Seeks to Legalize and Expand Govt Spying

Obama to Extend Patriot Act (weakening civil liberties)

Obama, contrary to his candidating for the Presidency, continued FISA

Uh, he's actually using the FISA court, as Bush should have done.

Bush deliberately terrorized the US in order to get what he wanted. I thought terrorism was not the answer?

Under the definition of 'terrorist' - one who 'terrorizes' the public, no one did that more than W and Cheney. 'Orange alerts' every other day and nonstop talk of Al Qaeda.

Funny how it's the same world and we don't hear that crap every day cynically used to keep a grip on power while they robbed the U.S. blind.

to keep a grip on power while they (the GOP) robbed the U.S. blind.

SCRUMPLET

I didn't see your comment. The truth. Wonder how many people were gullible enough to buy duct tape to 'keep them safe' as John Ashcroft advised?

The GOP robbed us blind using terrorism as the magician's slight of hand.

to keep a grip on power while they (the GOP) robbed the U.S. blind.

#28 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY

As Obama & gang continue the traditions or haven't you noticed?

Sure they are. Why, yesterday's "Orange Alert" made me buy $1000 worth of useless duct tape to protect my family from chemical attacks.

$1000 worth of useless duct tape

Red Green would say you made a wise investment.

If the women don't find you handsome, they'll at least find you handy

Here's the latest Orange Alerts...did u know we need more lerts?

onlinejournal.com

OK. You're being facetious 'cause you surely can't be serious :-)

#32 | Posted by bruceaz

LOL. Duct tape has lots of handy uses. Saving oneself from a chemical or nuclear attack isn't one of them.

That's all right with me!!! You can check my phone records anytime you want too. After all, I would only complain if I have something to hide!!! Any way to get truth is all right with me!!!!

That should make it OK for them to do it under the little o.

while they are there, maybe we can find out how fbi files got into hillary's office oh so many years ago.

Nice attempt to deflect...

What does this have to do with unemployment at 10% and the Big O sitting on his hands?

Boy, that's a toughie. You sure don't pull any punches, do you? Well, lemme see....Oh, I've got it: nothing. What you're looking for is the "Unemployment at 10% and the Big O Sitting on His Hands" thread you failed to post. (Must've gotten lost while you were shufflng.) This is the "Bush FBI Broke Law to Get Call Records" thread. I know it's tough to keep up -- that darned wheel just keeps on spinning -- but, please, do try.

that darned wheel just keeps on spinning

yeah and so does that ringing in my ears and the aches in my knees and back

and even with all that

WHAT A BEAUTIFULL DAY....

George W. Bush, as much as I dislike his Policies had one thing going for him, at least in his thinking, "DO WHAT I WANT AN THE CONSTITUTION BE DAMNED"......The Democrats need to grow some BALLS an the Fox-Republicans be DAMN!!!! Poor Democrats they belive in the CONSTITUTION, an yet that may allow the Republicans back in the position of running this Country.

AN WE ALL KNOW HOW WELL THEY DID IN THE LAST EIGHT YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

We are in decline, the rats are leaving the ship and taking everything they can with them.

Big O sitting on his hands?

My girlfriend had a big O. BHO is a little o. He just sends a thrill up Chris M's leggie.

Celisary, last night Mass. told us what the country thinks of the Dems performance of just 1 year. Maybe you should watch Fox instead of your Good Times rerun collection.

Forget Justice...instead Cue the Patriotic Frenzy!

Boy this will really whip the teary eyed, flag waving Right Wing Republicans into another (phony) Patriotic Frenzy!!!

FISHPAW......I watch Fox all the time along with the other News Networks, that how I know that Fox is not a News Network but an arm of the Republican Party, thias is a PROPAGANDA MACHINE AN YES TO THE 20,000,000 Ignorant Americans its quite effective.

As to President Obama, he was left a fucking mess an unlike Mr. Bush he is dealing with them, any time you do that you are going to pissoff the half of the Country that didn't vote for you. This was not unexpected, at least not to the thinkers in this site..............By the way after his first year your LORD AND MASTER RONALD REAGAN WAS AT 41% of public approval. I would not Gloat to soon, ASSHOLE!!!!!!!

This country is Broken...
all there is to it.

Republicans are corporate sellouts who will
do anything to make sure Obama's legacy only
reeks of failure to accomplish anything, and
have no pertinent suggestions of their own
except more of the same...

Democrats bicker and feud and slit their own
political throats because they cannot agree
to meet in the middle on health care and a
number of other issues...

If I didn't have to pay child support and
raise my kid, I would seriously think about
raising sail and setting off for less
murky waters...

we are watching the crumbling of Rome before
our eyes...

"...we are watching the crumbling of Rome before
our eyes..."

Leaving your country and constitution is the easy way out; that's giving up.

Raise you daughter to love her country and fear her government.

Don't be apathetic...if you are then the forces that love servitude and fear liberty have already won...with out ever firing a shot.

Confused about something:

Obama Said That the Senate Compromise on the PATRIOT Act Was "Far From Perfect" But Modestly Improved the Original Law By Strengthening Civil Liberties Without Sacrificing the Tools That Law Enforcement Needs to Keep Us Safe. "Let me be clear: this compromise is not as good as the Senate version of the bill, nor is it as good as the SAFE Act that I have cosponsored. I suspect the vast majority of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle feel the same way.
^^^^^

How can you "suspect" something that obviously isn't the case? If it was, we wouldn't be stuck with the piece of shit compromise.....or am I reading that too literally?
