"The U.S. government response should be bold and decisive. It must mobilize U.S. civilian and military capabilities for short-term rescue and relief and long-term recovery and reform. President Obama should tap high-level, bipartisan leadership. Clearly former President Clinton, who was already named as the U.N. envoy on Haiti, is a logical choice. President Obama should also reach out to a senior Republican figure, perhaps former President George W. Bush, to lead the bipartisan effort for the Republicans."

There's plenty to throw at W, but foreign was something he did. Everyone remembers the funny vid of him dancing with like a hundred Africans. He was more popular over there than he was here.

foreign aid, that is...

I'd go, but AirForce Two stinks like Colt 45 and Bacon. -GWB

Under Bush's watch, the democratically elected leader of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, was deposed by a military coup led by rebel elements, which the Bush administration and allied groups supported. Following the coup after which looting "cost Haitian businesses hundreds of millions of dollars," over half of the country's police "officers quit," and the price of rice "more than doubled"

yup, thats some kind of aid bush had going on there! and Democracy Brings Peace, right?

They are our neighbor. Granted, France and Spain are probably more responsible for the sorry condition of Hispaniola, but if we want to live up to the "beacon of light' rhetoric we offer, we are gonna have to provide some actual light every so often.

For all the troops we have stationed in Germany, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Columbia, Saudi Arabia, (not even counting the states where we actively pursue war with tens of thousands of troops), we could have taken one armored division and made that shit hole into a casino decades ago.

Shame on us.

And shame on 100 years of foreign policy that looks out for the few to the neglect of the many.

but foreign was something he did wrong.

Ah, I didn't realize that was Bush's relationship to Haiti. Of course with that information, GWB is the worst possible choice to send there.

Thanks for the response.

If Bush goes to Haiti, he will long for the warm receptions he got in Russia and Iraq I think.
