Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Wednesday, January 13, 2010

On the 700 Club today, televangelist Pat Robertson said that the devastating earthquake in Haiti was the result of a pact the country made with the Devil. "Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," Robertson said. "They were under the heel of the French, you know, Napoleon the 3rd and whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the Devil. They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.' True story. And so the Devil said, 'Okay, it's a deal."

Holy Shit! The wheels have finally come off this old coot.

Maybe he should stick to leg pressing 2,000 pounds.

Who I really feel sorry for are all the fools out there that will beleive this bullshit.

I love all the nifty powers man has given the devil; they rival those of G-d and, to some, it seems as if the Devil out powers G-d. So now the Devil has the power to move the Earth? Can we get some Biblical reference to that, or am I asking too much?

I wish he (Pat, not Kanrei!) would shut up, however, I do believe sin and corruption entered the world in the garden and will remain so until Moshiach returns. We're all guilty. Satan is the god of this world.

Plus, it is no secret that Haiti has dabbled in everything from voodoo to witchcraft for many years.

yup, its the voodoo that got them. Repent, Haiti!!!

Clearly as long as Pat Robertson lives, Jesus is taking care of him.

(Maybe they don't want him in Heaven)

According to Christianity, the entity known as the Devil or Satan or The Prince of the Power of the Air, is the current world ruler.

Which is why he could, in the story, offer Jesus all power on earth if he would worship him.

That being said, Pat Robertson made a pact with stupid a very long time ago.

The World's Most Unusual Therapist ~ A Hawaiian Love Story
by Dr. Joe Vitale
www.mrfire.com

Two years ago, I heard about a therapist in Hawaii who cured a complete ward of criminally insane patients--without ever seeing any of them. The psychologist would study an inmate's chart and then look within himself to see how he created that person's illness. As he improved himself, the patient improved.

The Devil's powers are that of influence, not actual power. The Devil cannot create life (pot is the Devil's weed) nor can the Devil move continents (caused an Earthquake.)

Which is why he could, in the story, offer Jesus all power on earth if he would worship him.

That was called a lie IMHO, a bluff to try and trick Jesus into betraying G-d. Funny how people call something "the father of lies" and then quote them like they tell the truth.

#13 Funny how context is irrelevant to some, as if that were the only text that describes "Satan"'s relationship to the world.

The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. -2 Corinthians 4:4

I'm sure I need education in many areas, but Christian theology isn't one of them.

The earthquake was Bush's fault because he was warned in March of 2008 that it could happen.

"Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them; and he said to Him, "All these I will give you, if You will fall down and worship me." Then Jesus said to him, "Begone, Satan! for it is written, 'You shall worship The Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.'" Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him." (Matthew 4:8-11 RSV)

"And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the likeness of God." (2 Corinthians 4:3-4 RSV)

I love this part ~ Donner from www.mrfire.com :>)

I later attended a ho 'oponopono workshop run by Dr. Len. He's now 70 years old, considered a grandfatherly shaman, and is somewhat reclusive. He praised my book, The Attractor Factor. He told me that as I improve myself, my book's vibration will raise, and everyone will feel it when they read it. In short, as I improve, my readers will improve.

"What about the books that are already sold and out there?" I asked.

"They aren't out there," he explained, once again blowing my mind with his mystic wisdom. "They are still in you."

In short, there is no out there.

Also: John 12:31; 14:31; 16:11

"Turns out that loving yourself is the greatest way to improve yourself, and as you improve yourself, your improve your world."

"Plus, it is no secret that Haiti has dabbled in everything from voodoo to witchcraft for many years."

And so has just about every other nation in the western hemisphere.

Which is why he could, in the story, offer Jesus all power on earth if he would worship him.

ummm jesus was god so he already had all the power on earth.

ooo sorry mythology at work

so the ruler of the earth in christianity is the devil.

wow.

Let's note what Ezekiel 28:12-17 says about this evil one.

* Super wise (Ez 28.12)
* Extraordinary beautiful (Ez 28.12)
* Created and therefore not eternal (Ez 28.13)
* Highest position - an anointed cherub (Ez 28.14)
* Perfectly made - sinned on his own (Ez 28.15)
* Filled with violence (Ez 28.16)
* Cast out of God's presence (Ez 28.16)
* Self-deceived about his wisdom and beauty (Ez 28.17)

"You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies." (John 8:44).

The Devil lied to Jesus when he offered the world as everything the Devil says is a lie per the Bible.

So if the Devil were to say.

"I am lying."

Your head would explode?

I don't believe a fictional character can "say" anything, but those who believe in him really should fully understand it. Even the Vatican in the 90's said that much of what people attribute to the Devil does not come from the Bible, but rather from Dante's Inferno.

God is punishing Haiti because they still speak French

Wait - so the French aren't in league with Satan any longer? Just their healthcare system?

If Haiti made a pact with the devil, then would the devil hit them with an earthquake? So he is saying God did it.

So those that don't believe are "blinded" to truth and this is true because a tome compiled 1600+ years ago by the last vestiges of the Roman Empire struggling to keep cohesion said so..

Just because it is written down does make it true, or you a seer that "understands".

LEG-
While I can often agree with NANC, in this case there's a clarification I think that needs to be made. When Scripture talks about death... as in "the wages of sin is death"
bible.cc it's important to point out that "death" isn't the death we normally think of (losing our life). Rather, sin=death in that it separates us from God. In other words, we die a spiritual death.

There is not a 100% cause & effect as we look at sin and actual bad things happening. It's the same flawed thinking which allows people to say, for instance, that New Orleans ticked off God so he sent the floods to kill people. The entire world, not just New Orleans, is replete with sin.

I do agree with NANC that blatant and unrepentent sin has consequences. It's just that it's a huge leap to assume a cause and effect (as apparently Robertson has done) between the two.

I find it hard to believe that a country "dabbled" in anything. Some residents of said country might have. Oh, I understand - Haiti is predominantly Catholic, and therefore not "Christian".

LET-
Voodoo is widespread down there. We have missionaries there and a church couple we're good friends with goes there each year - they're optometrists and bring hundreds of donated glasses down there each time.

In fact, one of our ministers has his father and uncle down there now. Another couple has their adult daughter and her hubby there as well.

From the feedback we receive, voodoo and other "not Christian - to include Catholic" activities abound there.

So, you're all for the pact with the devil explanation?

My point may have been a little obtuse. A country is a geographical boundry, a thing. It can't dabble in anything. The people of the country, that's another story.

He doesn't have that much influence anymore.

But, you have to put things into perspective.

We have to vote against idiots like Franken, Barney, Pelosi, Reid, Obama who are so far left now and have no business being in American politics, muchless trying run the country.

I'm not sure if you noticed, but in the last year, they passed this bill called the "Stimulus Bill" that they thought would stimulate the economy, but didn't.

Also, instead of focusing on getting the economy back on track, they are trying to socialize medicine! In the begining of this nine-month debacal, it was socialized medicine that only 20% of the country wanted. At the end of it all, it's a piece of crap that no one wants.

Meanwhile businesses are afraid of what Congress and Obama are goign to do in the coming years and are pulling back and laying off and not investing in product development nor marketing.

Pat Robertson is no threat to America. Get over it!

Agree, LET. A nation's population isn't 100% homogenous in anything, whether talking about religion, personal habits, political persuasion, etc.

Not much sarcasm here, nothing too offensive I hope:

So, you are stating that Christianity holds that the "spirit" can be "killed". The body and the spirit are "killed" separately or differently? A dead body and a dead spirit is .. what? More dead than dead? Don't you mean "turned" or some other D&D terminology. (teensie snark).

Continuing my Star Wars theme: Liam Neeson had some excellent (the only valuable) lines in that Lucas atrocity The Phantom Menace. He basically identifies that intention is what manifests our reality. Robertson intends on Americans not feeling sympathy for these dark-skinned hethan, demon-worshiping black-souled, false-Christian islanders. Probably to privatize aid that his corporate interests offer. He didn't offer any other description of how they can be aided, just that a natural disaster which has killed so many and destroyed yet another city was again "deserved". New Orleans sure does seem a much more Christianified place. Those corporate bars have transformed Mardi Gras into a wholesome, locally-inspired booze, beads and boobyfest for Christ. As the natural disaster cheerleader, Pat should be more vocal about California and Texas before it's too late to bitch to them directly. Oh, and let's not forget the terrorism pentagram completing Miami.

RED-
My point is that there is the term "death" used in Scripture which serves as a euphemism for separation from God (ie: sin) vs the literal term "death" which we use today to signify a loss of life.

This might help illustrate: www.bible.ca

Who hasn't made a pact with Satan at some point?

We ALL need help...

Whenever there is a natural disaster, you can count on hearing the inane babble of fundamentalists before the dust settles.

"Robertson: Haiti Cursed by Pack with Devil"

What utter pistosh. You might just as well say the Republican Party was cursed by its pact with Pat Robertson.

Hmm. That might not have been the best analogy.

Um, no.

From the article for history--

So what was Robertson referring to? The theory that Haiti is a nation built on a pact with the devil has circulated on a number of websites, each tracing back to an apocryphal tale of Haitian voodoo priests sacrificing a pig and drinking its blood in 1791 in order to secure Satan's aid in expelling the French occupation. In return, the priests are said to have promised Haiti to Satan for the next 200 years. The French were soon beat back, and in 1804, Haiti became an independent nation. But even if you believe the story (something many historians doubt), Satan's lease on the tiny island nation should have expired in 1991.

And even if you take the latest date--1804--the 200 year mark went by in 2004.

They paid their penance--if that is what Pat thinks.

Otherwise--

heavy sigh....

There is a difference for an individual lead by sin--all kinds of bad things can result.

But natural disasters--geez louise...

Wow. That's good news. I can't conceive of being in the midst of something like that.

Oddly enough, that son-in-law gave the sermon at our church maybe two weeks ago. He heads a Bible college/school down there.

Although I'm an avowed atheist, all my prayers go out to them, hope they're ok. For whatever that's worth. Just a terrible thing all around.

Check out the comments that all the report readers are leaving taking up for Pat Robinson, and trying to justify him saying that the people of Haiti had this coming. If this was a Dem. saying this then they would be all over it. Here are some of the comments:

"Haiti is cursed. The Black people who were brought out of Africa that became Christian and who accepted the rule of god's people have become the wealthiest blacks in the world. Those who embraced Satanism, Witchcraft and Voodoo have rejected the teachings of the White race and our god, have been cursed in accordance with the Word of God (the New Testament of the Bible).

"God is cursing America as we continue to embrace or celebrate feminism, abortion, homosexual lifestyles, mis-cegenation, and other un-godly things which have always destroyed nations."

"Now I know why we got stuck with Obama as President. We made a pact with the devil."

"MR Pat TOLD THE TRUTH,THE PEOPLE DID MAKE A PACT W/ DEVIL OVER THE FRENCH.NOW THEY ARE STILL UNDER IT,THEY MUST REPENT ASK FOR FORGIVENESS FIRST.THERE ARE MANY PLACES WERE THERE ARE FAULT LINES BUT NOTHING MAJOR EVER WHAPPENS.MANY OF YOU HERE HAVE NOT READ OR OPENED A BIBLE. .. I mean seriously.. If you read the comments you can see these guys try to twist this to make it sound right. It is pitiful. I seriously am sickened by this and I'm praying for the people of Haiti who lost their lives, or had family members die due to this tragedy.. Christian or NOT..

Yeah, I see your point but check it out.. its like almost 30% of comments, give or take. Thats ridiculous.. This is a major tragedy, and a good amount of people are actually taking up for a man who said these people had it coming, just because of his political stance.

I dunno maybe I'm looking too deep into it, but I don't know...

Pat Robertson, the Christian version of a Taliban religious leader or an Iranian Ayatollah. You pick. Bottom line, just another fantastic example of what is wrong with organized religion.

Why can't this hate filled old gas bag just keep his idiotic mouth shut? He is more the Anti-Christ then Christian. Him and his hate filled spouting. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Christianity supposed to be about benevolence, doing good, forgiving others, turning the other cheek, tolerance etc? All he manages to do is spread hate and fear.

Why would you conclude that it was the Devil that moved the Earth?

BADCAT

People like Robertson, Falwell, Kennedy, Bakker, Tilton, etc. have been on the low road their entire "evangelical" lives.

There should be no, zero, nada, zilch expectations that Robertson would do anything different as his mental health wanes into dementia.

so the ruler of the earth in christianity is the devil.

Only temporarily, you see.

Eventually, God will send Jesus back to save all the believers. How he does this really depends on which church you go to. If you're a Pentecostal type, you're going to go up in the rapture. You'll just disappear. Well, you won't because you're a heathen muslim, right? The others will get to go.

Then there will be a big battle. And Jesus will emerge victorious.

I've paraphrased, of course.

I think my favorite example of the events of the return of Christ is the American Dad episode entitled Rapture's Delight.

It could have been worse. They could have
made a pact with Pat Robertson.

Wow.. This event should put a holy, reverent fear of God in our hearts people! There is no need for sarcasm, animosity, the need to attempt to prove a point by writing a comment on this page. Here is the very bottom line: God is God and we are not. God hates sin and judges it however He likes at any time and in any way. He is a God of love (mercy) and of judgment. He desires a loving relationship with us. He rewards those who love and seek Him. Therefore, all we have to do is believe Jesus, God's son, came to the Earth (which He created), became the ultimate sacrifice for our sins and died on the cross... He rose again and is seated at the right hand of God.. And is coming back. His return is imminent. And everyone who repents of their sins and believes this will be saved and will share in the rewards of eternal life in heaven. Those who do not believe will spend eternity in fire with the devil and his angels. Let's pray that the people of Haiti and everyone up the Earth will see and accept this great news. And pray for God to have mercy on us all!

-The Devil lied to Jesus when he offered the world as everything the Devil says is a lie per the Bible.

Nice as opinion, not much as Christian theology.

Jesus was really stupid enough not to know when the Debil was lying?

Hardly.

Jesus was really stupid enough not to know when the Debil was lying?

Well he was hungry and dehydrated after spending so long with little to nothing to eat/drink. Probably didn't have all of his faculties.

He was delirious.

It is long-held mainstream Christian theology that the current ruler of this world, as indicated in the many passages of text cited above, is ol' Scratch hisself.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., January 13, 2010 -- On today's The 700 Club, during a segment about the devastation, suffering and humanitarian effort that is needed in Haiti, Dr. Robertson also spoke about Haiti's history. His comments were based on the widely-discussed 1791 slave rebellion led by Boukman Dutty at Bois Caiman, where the slaves allegedly made a famous pact with the devil in exchange for victory over the French. This history, combined with the horrible state of the country, has led countless scholars and religious figures over the centuries to believe the country is cursed. Dr. Robertson never stated that the earthquake was God's wrath. If you watch the entire video segment, Dr. Robertson's compassion for the people of Haiti is clear. He called for prayer for them. His humanitarian arm has been working to help thousands of people in Haiti over the last year, and they are currently launching a major relief and recovery effort to help the victims of this disaster. They have sent a shipment of millions of dollars worth of medications that is now in Haiti, and their disaster team leaders are expected to arrive tomorrow and begin operations to ease the suffering.

Allegedly, NANC made a pact with the devil.

There really isn't much debate about that.

Wrong you ignorant fool. But continue on.

"You have to believe this if you believe in the Bible...."

You are an interesting blend of stupid and mean.

Having said that, you're doing better than the fellow who thinks the Bible was composed in the later stages of the Roman Empire.

-As to the existence of said "demon", the jury is still out.

The scientific jury is out about the whole idea of things spiritual.

What we are discussing is theology.

Although things like quantum entanglements make the physical and the spiritual more alike than not, imho.

People continue to demonstrate that thoughtful ignorance doesn't have to be a contradiction.

Pat Robertson is a fool who brings discredit on the faith. It's hard for me to recall a genuine prophet (that is, someone God spoke with directly) who was also given worldly blessings.

Most of them suffered for their relationship with God, and at least one ran from the responsibility just as fast as his feet could carry him.

Inquisition = non Catholics made a pact with the devil
Holocaust - Jews, gypsies, and gays made a pact with the devil
Tsunami = Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, etc. made a pact with the devil
Missouri earthquake of 1812 = Christians made a pact with the devil
Katrina = Bobby Jindal and David Vitter made a pact with the devil
Arizona meteor crater = Navajos made a pact with the devil
Hamas and Fatah = Israel made a pact with the devil,
etc., etc., etc.

Haiti sure was not blessed, the opposite of cursed,
that's what Robertson said, not what all lying politically uncorrect added to what he said...

So what, Pat Robertson also has freedom of speech, as well as all citizens of the U.S. wake up stupid people, he has his rights of free speech,
Thank you he can say what he wants to...

Go Pat, tell all those politically uncorrect ssob's the truth which they can't take. Watch them whine and bitch like spoiled little children.

The politically uncorrect bitches hasn't yet usurped that freedom from citizens yet, although they would give their souls to the devil in order to do so...

I can't believe people on this thread are using bible quotes to argue for or against this idiot.
I mean seriously, it was a freaking geological event, not an act of an invisible superpowerful being. When did human intellect go back in time a few centuries? And is the world flat as well?

Also, voodoo is not even remotely a major practice in Haiti, that's just an extremely rascist and ignorant attempt at proving a bullsh!t theory about Jesus (fairly typical).
Haiti is over 80% Christian!!!
en.wikipedia.org

So apparently God waited for the devil-worshippers to die of natural causes hundreds of years ago, and is now punishing Christians for believing in Jesus. Got a response there Patty-boy?

Don't think Napoleon III was involved in 1804. Maybe Pat was thinking of Napoleon Dynamite.Pat should stick to quoting scripture and not venture into disciplines where he has no knowledge or understanding such as history, economics, politics, or ethics. Suggestion Pat. If Satan is offering all these sweet deals why not ask him for money instead of putting your hand out to the public all the time?

80% might be christian, but they're mostly catholic. and catholics don't put in to pat's coffers.

so... pact with the devil.

It's funny that Nance mentioned black magic and Voodoo. I was at GITMO for six months during the Haitian crisis. Those people believe in black magic, curses, and voodoo with all of their heart. We had a incident where a Haitian female swore a guy put a curse on her. We attempted to convince her it was bogus. We NEVER succeeded. We wound up transferring him to another camp to keep the peace.

Pat Robertson "A Public Relations Nightmare," Says God
www.huffingtonpost.com

The story of the fall of Jericho's walls isn't all that surprising. There are many ways you can do that without going all Miles Davisey.

The events that follow are more interesting... namely the divinely-sanctioned massacre of every living thing within the city. When Israeli schoolchildren were asked whether the genocide mentioned in the Jericho story was justified, an overwhelming majority were supportive. When they were presented with a similar story where the identities of the different combatants were changed but the events kept constant, the same schoolchildren vehemently condemned the slaughter. Religious indoctrination had convinced them that there are circumstances in which wholesale annihilation of a civilian population is not only acceptable, but godly. The study is a rather infamous one, conducted by Tamarin in 1973.

lol, Doc

"Just hours after saying that God was punishing Haiti for making a "pact with the Devil," televangelist Pat Robertson retracted the statement, telling TV viewers,

"Haiti? I thought they said Hades.'"

Rev. Robertson said that he had heard the report of the earthquake on the radio and had misinterpreted its location: "For the life of me, I thought God was punishing Hades, which does in fact have a pact with the Devil."

Apologizing for his "goof," the televangelist told his TV audience, "Golly - people must've thought I was being an insensitive asshole."

One man's slaughter is another man's arrival in heaven.

One man's slaughter is another man's arrival in heaven.

Yep. It's fucking insane. Somewhere, someone needs to pencil in the margin of everybody's sacred text, "You don't get your ticket by punching somebody else's."

A matter of perspective, too. People talk about all the innocent children slaughtered in the OT.

From God's POV, presumably, their being with him isn't worse than being here.

In the story, God is still all pissed at man in the OT, and only in the NT is peace (the cessation of againstness) found.

"such tolerance from someone who expects same...

This should go into the self-retorting retort hall of shame"

If I expected tolerance perhaps but with NANC I expect intollerance.

#129 | Posted by ZombieHunter - How did the aliens come about?

#139 | Posted by danni - I am far more tolerant than you.

I knew this was coming right after I heard the death tolls reported. These guys need to learn to keep their fucking mouths shut. God didn't have a damn thing to do with the earthquake. He didn't cause it. It was caused by nature and the natural movements of faults in the earth. The only thing God has to do with it is collecting all those souls.

The scientific jury is out about the whole idea of things spiritual.

I spent enough time in church from my early childhood to my mid-20's to have a pretty sure footing that the existence of God cannot be proven or dis-proven. I choose to believe that he doesn't exist. Mostly because I never felt anything or witnessed any proof of his existence. What you "feel" and describe has the presence of the Holy Spirit can be attributed to various psychological triggers that have been ingrained through your experiences in church.

Or there could be an invisible "man" whispering in millions of ears, every hour of every day.

The God that you pray to is the same one that Pat Robertson prays to, but I bet you'd say that only one of you is right about what you claim God says to you.

-What you "feel"

My ol' Pastor, a Stanford PhD, talked about not leaving one's brain at the door of the church, nor confusing emotion with spirituality.

Try reading Reinhold Niebuhr or CS Lewis if you have an interest.

-what you claim God says to you.

Audio hallucination, actually hearing external voices, is a sign of schizophrenia.

As I mentioned, science hasn't found many lab experiments for things spiritual. But the more I learn about physics, the more I see God in the universe.

As did former atheist philosopher and scientist Andrew Flew.

www.blackandchristian.com

This morning Pat Robertson said that the 700 Club "Operation Blessing" boat with medicine was already there and at the docks with tons of medicine. Jus' sayin'....

If any dirtbag posting to this forum has not personally contributed MORE PUBLIC SUPPORT AND MONEY than PAT ROBERTSON HAS to support the Haitiatians in their disaster AND TIME OF NEED, THEN, You should be humble enough to keep your foul ignorant opinions zipped in accusing Pat Robertson in wrongful accusations, and advoid revealing to the world your hyprocritical retarded ignorance, while also revealing to all your unworthiness of the salt that you recieve in your daily bread...

As many would say, Worthless hyprocritical, SSOB'S that are not worth the salt in their daily bread, much less the breath of life...
If you do not fit this description then this does not apply to you... All others will continue to mouth off their preprogrammed ignorance...

Btw, they said what's needed MOST is cash....which can be spent on-island in, namely, the Dominican Republic.

"What you feel as the Holy Spirit....Can be explained through psychological triggers...Ingrained through your experience at church...."

That's a whole theory of human behavior based on absolutely nothing but your thinking about it and coming up with a set of ideas that....Sound sort of nice.

If you want to live life according to what is rational, well....That's nothing more than what I try to do.

But being a rational man requires more than you're putting into it.

There are some worthy charitable organizations listed on the "How To Help Haiti" thread, all of whom ensure nearly if not 100% goes to direct disaster relief, and all of whom have had people on the ground in Haiti for years.

Hey Pat, here's a great idea to prove your faith. Go over to Haiti tomorrow and repeat what you said and see if god saves you.

Robertson should do the world a favor, and go visit falwell.

The Obama administration is also cursed from pact with satan.

God; 'Pat'!

Pat; 'Yes, lord'.

God; 'What's all this shit about Haiti making a pact with the devil'?

Pat; 'I don't know, I'm old and tired, can i come home now'?

God; 'Sure, let me introduce you to your new roomate. His name is Beelzebub'.

Pat Robertson gives much needed help and aid to the Haitians and what does the scum shit bags on this forum give his name in thanks???

That shows everyone that takes time to read their unthankful sick remarks of their back stabbing character, and nature. Their nature is one of Murder even for their own family members as well as any other, in defence of their own ignorant stupidity and beliefs.
If anyone is any family member of such I truly feel sorrow for you...

I'm thankful none of them is President of the U.S....

They are all good little hyprocritical whores that DESERVE to suffer like circumstances as the Haitians or even worse...

Moses prayed to God not to destroy the Israelites
for lesser sins, do you SSOB'S want Pat Robertson to pray for God not to destroy you for your worse sins???
No you don't have to answer I know your Retarded answer before you open your shit stained mouths...

That's a whole theory of human behavior based on absolutely nothing but your thinking about it and coming up with a set of ideas that....Sound sort of nice.

If you want to live life according to what is rational, well....That's nothing more than what I try to do.

But being a rational man requires more than you're putting into it.

I never said that the explanations were THE explanations.

I wouldn't even bother with it because it cannot be proven one way or another. That's why believing in God requires faith. that's not to say you cannot be a rational person and have faith in a higher power. It is to say that you can have faith without reason.

I have no faith that God exists but believe that his existence or non-existence cannot be proven save for dying and finding out. By that point, you won't be coming back to tell anyone.

The people who I work with and socialize with that describe themselves as Christians make the same mistake you make in your evaluation of me. You think I'm offering you the answer as I perceive through my own rationalization. In reality, I'm offering up a point of discussion in the hopes that both of us can benefit from it.

Corky understands that and suggests some reading. You stand at your podium and preach to me like the "men of God" from my childhood who knew God's plan but were unwilling to share.

"You stand at your podium and preach to me like the men of God from my childhood....."

I pointed out you made an offer of an explanation that was lighter than air. You then take a step back from even that, stating it was nothing more than a point of discussion.

I suppose you can accuse me of preaching at you. I suppose I can accuse you of being vapid.

Re: #97 | Posted by dasc2 at 2010-01-14 09:18 AM
Wow. This event should put a holy, reverent fear of God in our hearts people!

[One would think so; however, only God can put such a holy, reverent fear in anyone. The unregenerate will fear Godjust not in holy reverence.]

Here is the very bottom line: God is God and we are not. God hates sin and judges it however He likes at any time and in any way. He is a God of love (mercy) and of judgment.

[I agree.]

He desires a loving relationship with us. He rewards those who love and seek Him. Therefore, all we have to do is believe Jesus, God's son, came to the Earth (which He created), became the ultimate sacrifice for our sins and died on the cross... He rose again and is seated at the right hand of God.

[Actually, He establishes a loving relationship with those whom He chooses to draw to Himself through Christ, grants them repentance, gives them the gift of faith, and enables them to believe and come to Christ. Christ died to save His people from their sinsthose whom He refers to as His sheep. Others He excluded, such as the Pharisees to whom He declared, "You do not believe, because you are not my sheep."]

And is coming back. [True]

His return is imminent.

[True; but, imminent is a relative term. The Apostles were convinced His return was imminent in their day. No one knows the day or the hour and the last days/end of the age/last times began with His first advent.]

And everyone who repents of their sins and believes this will be saved and will share in the rewards of eternal life in heaven.

[True. "28And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. (Romans 8)]

Those who do not believe will spend eternity in fire with the devil and his angels.

[True]

Let's pray that the people of Haiti and everyone up the Earth will see and accept this great news. And pray for God to have mercy on us all!

[Always a good thing to do. We do not know whom God will call and whom He will leave to the fruit of their own way.]

Then we have people asserting the Bible was written in the 4th Century when they are really referring to is compilation. Interesting, too, that more than one variety of compilation has been in active use since then. Maybe just one monolithic conspiracy competing with another?

The sacking of Rome in 410 by Alaric was pretty much the death nail for the Western Empire.

The documentation is just the owners manual on how to "drive" empire and control the masses.

now this is just fucking funny..

"The sacking of Rome by Alaric was pretty much the death knell for the Western Empire...."

That was a nasty bit of business. And yet there was a Roman Senate for two generations yet, and the old Roman system was in effect in wide areas of Gaul even into the 6th Century.

Then you get into the interesting question of when the Eastern Empire ceased being Roman and became Byzantine. Don't get me started.

"Now this is just fucking funny...."

Alaric was a Christian, an Arian Christian. Didn't mean he wasn't a greedy and ambitious SOB. But he spared the churches in Rome and those who sought sanctuary there.

That is a fact. Although it's not necessarily a bad thing, it can be annoying.

Wouldn't matter (not that I haven't). Knowledge and words are equivalent to too many people. That's why I jumped AXIOM.

If I am guilty of anything, it would be curiosity.

Curiosity of how people make themselves believe that there is a God.

See, unlike you, I wasn't an atheist who became a christian. I lived and breathed the church I grew up in until my mid 20's. I read the bible. I witnessed to people of all colors and creeds, some I may have even "brought to God". I gave to my community.

Then, when I needed God the most, he wasn't there. Some would say he's testing my faith, as if I hadn't demonstrated it already. They would say, maybe he hadn't really tested you yet and he has something to teach you.

Bullshit.

There were two explanations that I decided were good enough for me. Either God exists and he likes fucking with people, or he isn't there and we were all talking to the invisible man.

"Then, when I needed God most, He wasn't there...."

I'll never know what you're speaking about, of course, and I see no need to change that. Whatever the bad thing was, I'm sorry for it.

It is the nature of people to define others as being good or bad in relation to what they personally are or are not given and/or what is or is not done for them. I'm at the head of the line here.

So---People are egocentric, selfish, ungrateful, and easily annoyed---Because God isn't Santa Claus---Which is funny, because so many others choose not to believe in Him because they suspect He might only be Santa Claus.

"You stand in judgment of what is logical...."

If you understand logic, that should be something easy to do. In fact, logic would demand it.

Getting to why no "debate" comes to any real conclusion here. People resent hammers when they're actually employed in relation to a nail.

but watch out if you get a hardon when Pat Robertson speaks! There might be a 15 year old nearby...

Pat Robertson apparently never looked into facts. 80% of Haitians are Roman Catholic, and a growing percentage of the rest have turned to evangelical Christianity. Perhaps he equates Catholicism with the Devil. Who knows what goes though his mind?

WWJD?

Kick Pat's ass, most likely.

If Pat is Christian, then Jesus would convert.

WWJD?

was always the stupidest question in the world. If he was what he said he was, then no one could do what he could.

And those that try to on their own end up like Pat Robertson.

I finally got around to watching the video, and that's not what Robertson said.

But it's obvious he's silly. Anyone who's been to Haiti can see for himself how richly God has blessed the place. Money and prosperity everywhere. It's little wonder so many people lash tires together in Miami and do whatever it takes to get there.

Shouldn't Pat be ashamed that God did not beat the Devil to that deal to free the slaves??

This is going to go down as the Best Thing thats happened to Haiti since Napolean. They'll get Billions in Intl.Aid,a vast reconstruction plus on that tiny, crowded, denuded, resourcel
ess island of 9 miilion, they can easily afford to lose 100.000 or even 4-5 million or 50 percent of their present population! Haiti without the earthquake, was an ongoing diaster that was getting bigger and more catastrophic as time went on!

I only opened this thread because tonight I met a lady who told me that Haiti was cursed for entering a pact with satan. She heard Pat say it and took it as gospel.
She's a nice lady. It was all I could do not to just blow up in her face. As calmly as I could, I explained how ridiculous the whole notion was, but she defended her belief and tried to justify it.
