While I can often agree with NANC, in this case there's a clarification I think that needs to be made. When Scripture talks about death... as in "the wages of sin is death" bible.cc it's important to point out that "death" isn't the death we normally think of (losing our life). Rather, sin=death in that it separates us from God. In other words, we die a spiritual death.
There is not a 100% cause & effect as we look at sin and actual bad things happening. It's the same flawed thinking which allows people to say, for instance, that New Orleans ticked off God so he sent the floods to kill people. The entire world, not just New Orleans, is replete with sin.
I do agree with NANC that blatant and unrepentent sin has consequences. It's just that it's a huge leap to assume a cause and effect (as apparently Robertson has done) between the two.

I only opened this thread because tonight I met a lady who told me that Haiti was cursed for entering a pact with satan. She heard Pat say it and took it as gospel.
She's a nice lady. It was all I could do not to just blow up in her face. As calmly as I could, I explained how ridiculous the whole notion was, but she defended her belief and tried to justify it.
