I completely agree with the court, fines should punish the individual who breaks the law. A fine that would punish me would only be pocket change for some rich folks so they can and do break laws, like speeding, with impunity while I try to avoid fines because my budget can't afford them.

I hope the NC legislature doesn't hear about this.

If a guy is worth 20 million where's the incentive to stop speeding if the cost of a regular ticket is, essentially, meaningless?

Confiscating vehicles and mandatory license removal for incorrigible, repeat offenders might also work.

If Spud sounds a little harsh here it's prolly cos there's been a rash of indiscriminate street racing incidents in Vancity over the last few years which have left a big pile of innocent bodies in their wake.
