Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Thursday, January 07, 2010

In an interview with USA Today, Obama National Security Adviser Gen. James Jones (Ret.) said that a report to be released this afternoon on intelligence failures leading up to the failed Christmas Day terrorist attack in Detroit will bring "a certain shock."

Jones said the missed clues in both the Detroit case and the November murder of 13 Americans at the hands of Army major Nidal Hasan constitute "two strikes" against the national security apparatus and that the president "certainly doesn't want that third strike, and neither does anybody else."

There is video in the link.

So they wanted to inspect the guy when he got to Detroit?

Uh--that would have been difficult if the a-hole had been successful and blown up the plane.

The people in Detroit were prepared to look at him in secondary inspection

If the "preview" is any indication, should this really keep us on the edge of our seats?

It's the equivalent of the State Dept now announcing they have revoked his visa.

Will the report detail how the story changed six times about the second detainee?

Or will it detail the Wolffe/Tarpley angle of the mole?

Hmm, I wonder if the appointed head of the TSA playing thru his golf game after learning of the attack has anything to do with this "shock"? Or perhaps, the revelation that the TSA is still using Bush policies (the ones they swore were keeping you safe)

Why is there a Bush appointee that plays golf instead of doing his job still heading the TSA? Was this oversight and inside job that's politically motivated in an effort to embarrass obama?

Is it because of a hold on Obama appointee by a certain political party?

Something tells me that this story is going to come back and bite some people, and not the ones the creator of this thread is hoping for!

Just more of the same BS.

"failure to understand the intelligence we have"??
So they're incompetent.

"more screening, investments like imaging technology"

"Strenghten the No-Fly List"
i.e. remove more Americans?

"I will hold my staff accountable".
"systemic failure"
i.e. therefore nobody to hold accountable.

"we are at war"
i.e. no other solution than to submit

"we won't surrender our liberties, but we will decide what defines us. We won't hand terrorists that victory"

"passive, stronger"???
these two are the biggest joke of all

Continued mumbo-jumbo about connecting the dots failures, therefore subject Americans to the ultimate demoralization and humiliation.... We have to read the report for the "shock". We'll be so shocked, we'll immediately submit!

"They technology was in place there, but not in the area of this flight?"

Really?
Second, since he was shepherded past security and had no identification at all, then how is that even relevant?

I think you are referring to the counter terrorism guy--a hold over from Bush. National Counterterrorism Center Director Michael Leiter.

FYI he went on vacation after Christmas day ...

Much like Bush kept Tenet over from the Clinton administration. hmmm

And no one will be fired--that was the point of his speech.

And the TSA guy is still im committee--Errol Southers (?) the guy who wants our security put into the hands of the union.

Like we already dont have lousy service--this dunderhead wants the union to run airport security.

Second, since he was shepherded past security and had no identification at all, then how is that even relevant?

Obama did say the guy had his visa.

I don't believe there was mention of the diaper baby bomber having a passport.

Brennan: Pre-911, intelligence organizations withheld information from other organizations. This was resolved over the years.

Was there ever one person ever held responsible for that? NO!

Same thing again this time, since it was a "systemic failure".

"I will do better, and we will do better as a team"

We knew all the details about him, the cell's determination to strike US, including the father's warning.

Napolitano:
increase the "behavior detection officers"

"Thank you for your patience with ..." your acts of submission to facilitate our incompetence.

"increase criteria for no-fly and selectee lists"

"increase law enforcement on top of everything else"

Q. body scanners to be used?
security is a system of layers. Canines, officers, behavior detection

Q: 300 scanners? Was that already planned? How many more?
YES! It was in funding for TSA. [surprisingly honest, but very convenient indeed!]
But don't focus on that technology! [yeah, sure]
There could be more.

Q: Who's being held accountable?
Gibbs: Pres is taking responsiblity; required reviews to plug holes. No other announcements.

Q: When did we find out that they had intentions to hit homeland?
evasive on fragmentation abroad. Never answered the question.

Q: That's the reform we need?

Q: Post 911, why were dots not connected? Why would it happen now, if not already?
we will raise the gate higher. Dots were in separate databases. We have better interoperability. The challenge is to leverage the access... evasive.

Q: Billion from stimulus? Could that be increased?
international issue. terrorists don't discriminate when bringing down a plane. blah blah.

Q: Fort Hood. Why didn't it create the higher sensitivity to this case? Did you ever get intelligence about threats hidden in clothing?
blah, blah, blah. We have made a record time review on this incident so we can make immediate corrections. We can now take corrective steps.

more blah, blah.

Blitzer (afterwards from summary):
Before plot, had info that he was likely operative within the core of al-quaeda locations;
knew they had aspirational goals.

Borger: Huge amount of information available in large volume of data. What about the father's warning?

MI5 already placed him on list from intel 3 years ago. Why would that not be shared? [In truth, all the intelligence agencies around the world work together in reality. It is not credible that they did not have that info]

"Shocking" that Obama used his podium mounted teleprompter more than usual.

Scanners are not going to find the diaper bomb.

They get to place a lead bar in their pants to cover their 'area'.

Think of all the germs passing the lead bar around? yeewwww...

Why not have every person show their passport while waiting to board the plane.

Check over each one for places they have been--run a check on the person right there on the fly lists.

Hell--he was three hours late on his speech--we can surmise why.

And now we know the reason for the speech.

I re-listened to the very end of the Obama speech:

we will strengthen our defenses at home but we will not succomb to a siege mentality that sacrifices an open society and liberties and values we cherish as Americans. Great and proud nations do not hunker down and hide behind walls of suspicion and mistrust. That is exactly what our adversaries want, so as long as I am president we will never hand them that victory. We will define the character of our country. In this cause, every one of us, every American and elected official can do our part. It is time to come together with the seriousness of purpose that our national security demands. That's what it means to be strong in the face of violent extremism. That's how we will prevail in this fight. That's how we will protect our country. And pass it, safer and stronger to the next generation."

What?? With the unveiled solution being the humiliating body scanners [but Napolitano says there's much more in layers of dogs, behavior cops, etc, so "don't concentrate on the scanners"], we won't sacrifice our liberty and values OR hind behind walls of suspicion and mistrust? Doesn't the assumption of being a terrorist to be violated in such a way foster the attitude of a siege mentality and suspicion and mistrust?

Get real. All this while no other consequences are dealt out [now, after 911, or after Hasan incident] to ANY official. Are Americans supposed to accept this utter nonsense?

LR--you need to recognize platitudes from Obama.

He has it as an art form...

Big Sis--as the drudge report names Janet Incompetano--wants to see our underwear....

It's funny--otherwise we all will be crying.

Big Sis--as the drudge report names Janet Incompetano--wants to see our underwear

Don't sweat it McAnkles. Body scanners will be obsolete once the terrorists figure out how to reverse engineer mAnn Coulter's foreskin.

Scanners are too much of an invasion of privacy--and they will use--the choice to use --a lead bar to put in your pants to block the private parts.

Duh!

And yes--there are few people who can say anus and foreskin and not crack up--ar ar ...

The more evasive the security becomes, the less people will fly, causing companies to lose money and the government to "bail out" the flight industry, increasing government control and expanding their power.

"Great and proud nations do not hunker down and hide behind walls of suspicion and mistrust."

So that's why one can't use the bathroom an hour before landing. Or can't have a magazine... Or whatever new stupid regulation which does "nothing" to prevent an attack. Just curious how a simple body scan is somehow a wall of suspicion and mistrust?

You can't really be that brainless. Funny?

Platitude? Get real. Or is it a 100% lie and a slap in your face.

Good points made. For the question, Re-read #15.

Isn't kinda "in your face" saying you may not hide, we'll get your naked body whether you like it or not?

A boycott and telling them explicitly we will NOT put up with it and that we are not flying is only way to send a message. It has worked before. Look at Target with the 100% self checkout lines. People quit shopping and they removed them.
