In a row over White House pressure to accept the Senate health reform bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi threw a rare insult at President Barack Obama. In response to a question about his commitment to his campaign promises, Pelosi responded, "There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail."

Obama's Promis:

"That's what I will do in bringing all parties together, not negotiating behind closed doors, but bringing all parties together, and broadcasting those negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are," Obama said at a debate against Hillary Clinton in Los Angeles on Jan. 31, 2008.

I have been an independent before it became fashionable and I pride myself on thinking for myself and from what I see, the GOP has tangibly shown to more interested in racking up negative points against Obama than sincerely working with him for the American people.

He has extended the olive branch to them and they essentially told him to go fuck himself.

Ok then, with that kind of response to his overture, I really don't think anyone can blame the administration of cutting them out and getting the job done.

From what I've seen he has truthfully given it the old "college try".

Additionally, the GOP has already stated, they still want to hinder or kill this bill outright.

I have absolutely no problem with this.

"...from what I see, the GOP has tangibly shown to more interested in racking up negative points against Obama than sincerely working with him for the American people."

It appears to me that your definition to "working with him" is giving him what he wants. If that means helping him to pass this horrendous health care bill, Cap and Trade, unlimited bailouts for Fannie and Freddie, etc. etc...then I'm damn glad they are racking up "negative points." Judging from polls and national trends, looks like LOTS of folks are glad too.
I would also like to point out to you that it has been the democrats that have been the biggest thorn in Dear Leader's side. If any of his plans fail, it'll be democrats that cause it.

Of course it will.

Additionally, the GOP has already stated, they still want to hinder or kill this bill outright.

I have absolutely no problem with this.

So therefore the debate shouldn't be televised?

So they can sit back and throw shit in the game remotely. We know their MO, let's not play into it.

The biggest social program in the our history, and the people aren't allowed to participate because people like you are afraid there could be objections. If it wasn't so fucking sad, it would be funny. Fucking Cowards.

So be it, but I do understand the reasoning.

so how does this differ with the article this thread is based on

thehill.com

He has extended the olive branch to them and they essentially told him to go fuck himself.

Obama made the following pledge during the election campaign...

1) No negotiating behind closed doors...

2) Broadcasting those negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are...

I want to HELP Obama and Nancy with their pledge of utilizing C-SPAN to show Americans what their choices are, unfortunately The Speaker and the President have no intention of showing America what really goes on behind closed doors...

So did the President LIE or maybe C-SPAN and everyone else misunderstood him...

"There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail," quipped Pelosi

The funny as hell part is Liberal Democrats think this will go away. I think the MSM is begining to turn on Obama and hold him to his word, you can bet your ass CSPAN will ask this question every chance they get...

Additionally, the GOP has already stated, they still want to hinder or kill this bill outright.

I have absolutely no problem with this.

#2 | Posted by fresno500

But do you have a problem with the former head of the DNC saying the exact same thing? Or is there a difference between "killing the bill" and "starting over"?

I have absolutely no problem with this.

#2 | Posted by fresno500

What does that have to do with c-span and the idiot promising to televise the process?

What is there to hide??

the GOP has already stated, they still want to hinder or kill this bill outright.

Killing a bill that is terrible for the country is a good thing.

An 'independent' mind would grasp that

Killing a bill that is terrible for the country is a good thing.

Yes.. And who are the idiots that elected Pelosi? She is an abomination to our country..

But Vernon, killing a bill is absurd. How about debating it and voting on it? I think that should happen with every bill. If it makes it to the floor, it should be discussed. I think filibustering is bullshit, for instance.

I also think there should be single-issue bills (no pork!) and up-down votes from every member of the legislative body. (Yes, even though the guy I voted for often voted "present." I believe I know why he did that, and I think it's lame--politically smart, but lame.)

Pelosi was trembling and stuttering and babbling and skipping and shuffling around at the podium. Pelosi is a weird skittish old freak.

WTF is wrong with this woman , mentally ?

Really !

Prolly still shaking from that time you tried to pick her up..... just sayin'.

That's abusive, Cork.

I think when they stretched the skin too tight on her face and it restricts bloodflow to her brain.

Or it could be the "medicine" she's smoking?

Obviously trying to put a little distance between her ond the Zero for he elections this year

Shitty attempt at a swipe. She missed his ears.

#10...I do not think that anyone with a hint of intelligence could not realize that this President lies many times over.. anything to get whatever is 'popular' to him... he is not necessarily new to this, but has carried it to an extreme like noone before him... Pelosi is much like him; it is not about the bill or the substance in it for either of these people...it is all about how their personal score comes out at the end.. neither could care less about the tragedy of this legislation, it is all about 'scorekeeping'..
and, just because there is a bill there, does not mean it is a good bill or even should be voted on..
these two will not bear the ill effects of this bill in any way...personally..!!! so, why should they care about how it affects anyone else..!!!

She's on medications (drugs)---it's pretty obvious.

NPD---narcissistic personality disorder.

#26....Right on...!!!!

Or is there a difference between "killing the bill" and "starting over"?

#13 | Posted by crispee_oc

No there isn't a difference. The first one has to be killed in order to start over.

Let me make this perfectly clear. There is no question that healthcare insurance is a problem. To fix it, it needs to be structured more like auto insurance where it is based on what you want and need and are willing to pay for. It needs to be nation wide, not state by state.

If you want full coverage here is what it will cost you. If you just want major medical, here is what it will cost you. If you just want organ transplant coverage, here is what it will cost you. All the rates must be based on the risk the person buying the coverage is.

If you are a male between 18 and 30, your auto insurance is expensive. If you are a female between 30 and 50 your auto insurance is cheep.

If you are insuring for colision on a 2010 Ferrari your insurance is expensive. If you are insuring a 1970 VW for collision it is a lot cheeper.

The government SHOULD NOT get in the insurance business. They are there to regulate the companies so people don't get ripped off. Not to paly favorities with companies that give the biggest donations for re-elections.

You are correct Sniper... this bill does not really address the REAL reorganization of health care and should be restarted.. there are so many rules in this debate as it sits now that will never ever be ironed out to anyone's good.. and the cost to taxpayers to get compromise is really ridiculous.. we do not need a COMPLETE overhaul and the govt does not need ANYMORE control over our life.. does anyone really think that all of the people sitting in Congress care about the American taxpayer..we have given them too much comfort and rule for that...that is why this bill does not address the real health care problems..

Yes.. And who are the idiots that elected Pelosi? She is an abomination to our country..
#16 | Posted by jsprague

She is the only thing standing between the middle class and a tax hike! Why should we pay a "luxury" tax on an insurance premium price, that has been driven up because of state government interference in the market place.

As regular as clockwork, the Demoncrats will implode! They can never divide the spoils, the graft and the political favors fairly enough to satisfy. Pity.

Shitty attempt at a swipe. She missed his ears.

#23 | Posted by wisgod

How could anyone miss them?

Don't they understand the concept that the return of being able to say " we passed something incredibly hard to pass" has diminshed beyond a reasonable point?

Is this why Dodd is quitting?

Because he wants to pass something and then be able to run from the consequences????
Or was it the cash payoff ( and I dont mean the hospital $$)

I think that if this tragedy is passed, Dodd and some of his colleagues will jump ship due to the inevitable rigors of reelection..!!!
If this bomb does explode in passing, the aftershocks will be plenty, in most distressing ways, not only economically and less serving to the people, but on the idiots that will vote for this bill.

Maybe Nelson will chicken out after all-
he's made some comments like - "We decided to do this too soon" as recently as yesterday - (but I have not updated myself on that today)

Nelson should change his last name to Dover.

Fresno500, your voter card might read independent, but your posts most definitely read liberal.

Now, had someone on the right said this, they would be a racist.
So, this makes Pelosi a racist, correct?
Why isn't anybody bringing this up?

If this bill passes, it will be challenged in the Supreme Court, where it will undoubtedly be found to be unconstitutional.
If not, we had a great country for 200+ years!

One more time:

"Pelosi Takes a swipe at Obama" ? I think a lot of people who voted for "Odama" would like to take a swipe at him... Won't be voting for him again I tell ya.

maybe you mean unjustified unequal treatment of states prescribed by Federal Law? ( Nebraska payoff, etc)

"NPD---narcissistic personality disorder."

DrSoul or Obama?

"Fresno500, your voter card might read independent, but your posts most definitely read liberal."

Hm, methinks this poster does not understand what independent means.

Wow, I'm agreeing with 8Roper again. Judged unconstitutional based on? But then, there was an entire thread on this yesterday, and I learned some rationale, then ultimately concluded that there's no slam-dunk around the constitutionality, or lack thereof, of the provisos of this bill. And that, my friend Seedeez, is why we have a Supreme Court.

If this bill passes, it will be challenged in the Supreme Court, where it will undoubtedly be found to be unconstitutional.

Or maybe the Supreme Court might fail to find the passage in the Constitution that states that the Federal Government can force an individual to purchase a damn thing.

How about the feds requiring me to buy health insurance. The only required insurance now is automible libility, not automible collison. That is required by the finance company.

You are all missing the point on the televising issue, C-SPAN doesn't give a shit about the politicians (which is good) they want to bring this into our living rooms so we can see what is going on, I don't care if you are for or against it (FWIW to me it is the worst legislation to possibly come out of DC, and that is saying alot).

Don't any of you want to see how this goes down? Who is blowing who for favors, who gets screwed for not "playing ball"? This has nothing to do with health care, it is about control. Period.

Get smart, vote Libertarian.

I think it should be televised. But I don't think C-SPAN has some civic motive. It's a TV channel, for god's sake--a money-making enterprise, right?

Then put it on Public TV. We've been paying for that horsehit forever. Let's start getting a return on investment.

The biggest social program in the our history, and the people aren't allowed to participate

Seems to me people spent the last six plus months participating. Remember the teabaggers and the death panels? All the hot air in lieu of policy from the GOPpers? Face it, nothing of substance is going to happen on screen if it is televised. Time to tell the GOPpers if ya got nothing to bring to the table, stay home and go on Fox if you want to be ignored.

Wis-I don't remember C-SPAN covering Bush's bank bail-out negotiations, or you whining about that. Or the PATRIOT Act either, come to think of it. Funny, that.

If Obama ever gave a shit about ending closed-door negotiation sessions, he would have attempted to do something about it when he was a Senator. Promising to do something about it as president was one of many ways he duped a bunch of morons into thinking he was for "change." Nothing has changed under Obama, and nothing will.

Wis-I don't remember C-SPAN covering Bush's bank bail-out negotiations

Or Cheney's oil meetings.

Did Bush and Cheney promise to end closed-door negotiations and televise them? We know Bush and Cheney were scumbags - Obama was supposed to be better according to his own words.

Wis-I don't remember C-SPAN covering Bush's bank bail-out negotiations, or you whining about that. Or the PATRIOT Act either, come to think of it. Funny, that.

You're the fucking idiots that voted for Hope and Change. How's that working out for ya? Iraq, check. Gitmo, check. Afganistan half-assed surge, check.Iran nuclear capabilities growing, check. Stimulus and 10+% unemployment, check. A pissed off and growing American Populace, check. Just what has this idiot accomplished?

"Just what has this idiot accomplished?"
Americans no longer looked at as a bunch of stupid, window licking fucking redneck idiots by the rest of the civilized world...check.

I hate to say it but I agree with Pelosi.

During the final stages of the election campaign McCain was going after him on health care and whether or not people will be compelled to utilize a government program. Obama looked the camera in the eye and spoke to the American people.

"If you like your health plan. Keep it. No one is going to compel you to switch to the government plan."

But now the caveat is, if it is a really good plan that your paying healthy premiums for, we are going to tax you for it. Effectively, a penalty for trying to take care of yourself with your own goddamn money.

That is disingenuous to say the least.

Americans no longer looked at as a bunch of stupid, window licking fucking redneck idiots by the rest of the civilized world...check.

Not just the Neb. payoff, but the LA payoff & the fact that certain union groups are not required to participate or the gov't. forcing us to purchase something. Take your pick, there are many reasons.

#53 | Posted by Kreator

Wisgod covered that one for all of us!!!

Didn't Obama, the liar in chief, accuse John McCain of wanting to tax the cadillac health care plans? I guess he objected to it based on the fact he and his team didn't think of it first.

Lonnie

Obama said what he said to get elected. Yes it was a lie. Guess what? All politicians lie. The difference here is that because he jumped out there and made that promise, and is now running from it as fast as he can, he is proving what many have felt for a long time. That Elitist politicians don't really believe that we the people should have a say in our own government. That we are here to serve their interests instead of the other way around.

accuse John McCain of wanting to tax the cadillac health care plans?

No, McCain wanted to tax all employer provided health insurance.

Exactly Bogey! They know what's better for us than we do according to them. However, didn't the left say he was a different kind of politician? I haven't seen any other difference than he's the only one who went on an apology tour.

Lonnie

Why argue with the right wing?

These people have oceans of blood on their hands. Everything that they argue or say will be out of the fear and humiliation of having to own up to the fact that they were on Bush's Team: quite possibly The Worst Presidential Administration Ever.

So many dead civilians and soldiers. Tons of lost jobs, dollars, livelihoods, LIVES. So much corruption, depression, deception, propaganda. These people did this to our country. These people did this to us. These are your Wisgods, your BLTs, your Bogeys, SeeDeez, Nancs.

You people did this to us and are now trying to cover your humiliation and shame by trying to make the new president look anywhere near as atrocious
as Garbage W. Trash and the Trash administration.
SHAME on you all! Filth!

K,

Now tell us what you really think?

Clinton, 1998, genocide, bystander, 800,000

Obama, Pelosi, Reid, 2010, 1994, embarrassed Americans when Obama's on TV overseas

SHAME on you all! Filth!

Whatever, Pigpen.

Question; do open meeting rules apply to Congress?

Just askin'

The leadership of this nation SUCKS. We have elected TURDS, one and all.

Can we please read the Constitution and start over now?

It's just a piece of paper you idiot rethugs. America needs to move left with or without that piece of paper.

And I'm sure you were crying like the little bitch you are when the Patriot Act was being debated, right RastaRetard?

The patriot act was right wing garbage. Obama needs to end it and I'm sure he will. Anything the right does is garbage. The right does not have one positive thing about themselves.

"And I'm sure you were crying like the little bitch you are when the Patriot Act was being debated, right RastaRetard?"

Actually, my question is, Was Jackass agreeing with President Bush when he said it was just a piece of paper. Or were you, Jackass, being ironic?

"I respect what the Clinton's did in 1993 with trying to bring health care to the public debate. But they made one big mistake. They went and shut the doors on the debate outside of the public view".
