It's sexual discrimination unless they apply the same rule to women

Since then, some swimmers, including Phelps, have been competing in the older, textile, navel-to-knee-length suits for men, and in textile, shoulder-to-knee-length suits for women. Textile fabric is defined by USA Swimming as "material consisting of natural and/or synthetic, individual and non-consolidated yarns used to constitute a fabric by weaving, knitting and/or braiding."

From the article:
"Unfortunately, it has rendered its record book worthless. It sadly is a joke because so many records have been broken with the new suit. These records will not be touched for years, if ever, because they were broken by swimmers using suits that will now be illegal."
If they'd just left things alone, everything would even out.

I don't know why they're singling out swim suits. Every sport sees increases in performance after embracing new technologies. Every one.

They've outlawed them all the way to the High School level. I think the price of the suit and the fact that some kids can't afford them started this. It's been debated for the last 2 years.

I'm not liking that argument. If the sport is too expensive for you (my brother couldn't play ice hockey because of the costs involved where we lived) then take up another sport.
I like hackey sack. you don't need a uniform or protective gear or shoes even. You buy one hack for $5 and you're good.

All well and good until your poor high school competes against schools with the high-tech suits. All equipment needs to be the same. Fair is fair.
