Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Monday, January 04, 2010

The decision by South Carolina Rep. Henry Brown to retire brings Republican retirements to 14, a number that, if it continues to rise in coming months could curtail the expected GOP gains in the House in November. While much of the focus for the last month has been on Democrats' retirement problems -- set off by a quartet of announcements in swing and Republican-leaning districts over the last month -- a broad look at the open seat playing field suggests more parity in terms of the two parties' opportunities and vulnerabilities than conventional wisdom suggests.

term limits

retire them all.

OH MY GOD!!! The GOP is history. It's gone for good.

Term limits by law, or by vote, either way, if your guy/girl/it (pelosi) have been there for more than 2 terms in senate and more that 8 years congress, then it is 100% chance that are crooked. Vote them out.

Good. Now if we can just get Dick Cheney to retire the country can get back the business of healing.

either that or dumb ass people from posting...

I think all members of Congress should be retired - to a lovely facility I've heard of in Florence, Colorado.

Hey, it's Federally run and everything...

It is very possible that all these GOP retirements will snuff out any chance the GOP has of taking over the House Of Reps in November. From that perspective, this is potentially a very big deal. From another angle it also is indicative that based on early polling, the congressman may be retiring because they believe any reelection campaign will be bruising and to close to call.

before you start the celebration...be sure to make note of a fairly comparable number of dems who are also retiring...
I would think that the NET result would be the important figure.

BL2, I am not celebrating. I firmly believe the GOP will pick up seats in both houses of Congres come November. The real issue is whether or not they are able to pick up enough seats in either the House or Senate so as to take control. Needless to say, come next January the filibuster proof Senate will be a thing of the past. Which is why it is so critical for the Dems to enact healthcare reform NOW.

That's right! Enact it now before the will of the people prevails.

The 'will of the people' is not represented by 40 spineless cocksuckers on Aetna's payroll.

slow down, you have another 3 years to destroy the country... whats the hurry?

Also, throwing a monkey wrench into 2010 (for both parties) will be continual growth of a third party--the repubs will gather more seats (off party always does) and then Obama becomes a lame duck for 2 years.

I think the third party that develops is likely to splinter the Repubs more than the Dems.

Sure, the Libertarians will be able to corner 2% of the vote, instead of their usual 1.

Yeah!

Healthcare Reform = Total Destruction of America.

Sure.

Not a very good start for you here on the Retort thus far.

taking the money and running, huh?

The Obama wannabe Corey Booker was on Fox. Newark is such a joke. If you ever want to get rid of your car park it over night in Newark

Good. Now if we can just get Dick Cheney to retire the country can get back the business of healing.

Is that going to happen while little o keeps blaming Bush for everything bad that happens? little o needs to step up to the plate and start taking responsibility for his administration's actions. Remember he ran for the job, it wasn't shoved upon him.

'Yeah!

awe, you think I care about your opinion, that's nice... I never said it equaled the total destruction of America?,

Healthcare Reform = THE START of the Total Destruction of America. fueled by tax increases more job losses fighting 2 wars and a bankrupt social security and medicare system.

Unless of course America wises up and decides to vote these assholes out of office...

time will tell I guess...

The average loss during the mid-term elections for the party controlling the White House is around 25 seats.

According to Rasmussen and Gallup:

Republicans have a higher approval ratting than Democrats.
Independents favor conservatives over liberals.
Independents favor Republicans over Democrats.
The approval ratting of Congress is in the teens and dropping.
The approval ratting of the Federal Government is in the teens and dropping.

So 2010 should be interesting.

I think 2010 will answer allot of questions...
I'm just unsure how stupid America is at this point...

but it will be interesting like you said...

Who's to say that the retiring Republicans won't be replaced by... Republicans? Don't most districts tend one way or the other? Rather than voting by person, it seems to me that most people vote by party. But of course, that's presumption (assumption?) on my part. But I expect that little will change, and I certainly don't see that a Republican majority will necessarily make Obama a lame duck (especially given that "lame duck" has a specific meaning, and it's not that the president is overpowered by an opposition majority). Clinton was more successful when he faced a Republican majority, no? That's what I am given to understand.

Our two party system has effectively rendered Democracy meaningless. Our Representatives, elected or not, Rethuglican or Demowussie, operate with a common hidden agenda. Ruthless exploitation of people who do real work and pay proportional taxes.

Anyone who thinks Rethuglican's will fix our messes is suffering severe memory loss. If the last year proves anything, it is that neither will the Demowussies.

I think its funny how this far out from the election the insulars and the media are predicting heavy dem losses. unless voters are just stupid people it will be funny ti see them put people back in they just got rid of two years ago. Dems may not be doing what many people want, but they are doing. I think that by the time the campaigns get going, all will be good. Dems may lose some seats but nothing close to predictions.

Which is why it is so critical for the Dems to enact healthcare reform NOW.

which is why its important to stop this dismantling of the constitutional and personal rights and freedoms NOW........

I think the third party that develops is likely to splinter the Repubs more than the Dems.

that is a good guess but a little out of date in my humble but well read opinion..

the OLD third parties, sure....perot was a little dumbass rich spoiled guy who I dont think really wanted to be president but rather stop bush from winning as they had a history of bad blood here in texas....so I really believe a lot of that was payback.......

THIS>..I think is a different animal....AND tea party folks should have learned their lesson about not voting republican when thats the only choice because according to what I hear. that is a WHOLE LOT of people didnt vote at all in 2008

Who's to say that the retiring Republicans won't be replaced by... Republicans?

BINGO BABY,,,,,I think you are correct....

(now,...you got my seal of approval...didnt THAT just make your day)

LMAO, Afk, at that last one. I'm not saying I want Republicans replacing Republicans. I'm just saying it's weird for anyone to assume that a retiring Republican will be replaced by a Democrat. Districts tend to lean one way or the other...

And I don't understand your line about dismantling of rights and freedoms--there's that offhand rhetoric again...
