Revelers ringing in 2010 on five continents will be treated to a so-called blue moon, the second full moon in a month. A full moon occurred on Dec. 2 and will appear again on Thursday in time for the New Year's countdown.

I plan to be around the fire pit next to the barn and three sheets into the wind, doubt if I will notice the moon unless I fall over and land on my backside...

Hang in there.
Congrats

We will not disappoint.

Happy Birthday NessGadol and LithoDoctor. Many more.

I have noticed the last few nights the moon is really bright and casting a blue-ish glow. Blue moons are like wicked awesome.

Thanks for the Cowboy Junkies link spud, that's a cool song. Here is Elvis singing blue moon. I am pretty sure this was the song/recording that Elvis first sang on a record (old timers jump in here;)

Oh and happy fucking New Year to everyone here on the DR. Long days and pleasant nights to you all...

"Blue moon" is the term given to the name of the second full moon in a calender month. Since full moons occur every 28 days and a month is no more than 31, it is a rare occurance. Needless to say the day that a full moon falls on has absolutely nothing to do with its appearance.

I was only commenting on what I have seen recently, the moon light has been blue in color. Leading up to a full moon, the moon is almost full so that moonlight is basically the same.

I was talking about what I am seeing, not your druid calender bs.

Did you even listen to the Elvis song?

I was talking about what I am seeing, not your druid calender bs.

I realize that. I was just pointing out that any illusion of blue has nothing to do with two full moons in a calendar month which BTW is Gregorian, not Druish

It certainly casts a bluish appearance where I'm at, but looking out, all I see is water and sky.

If there's a blue moon, does that mean that a republican will have an original thought?

Also Happy Birthday to Ness and Litho.

Thanks for the Cowboy Junkies link spud, that's a cool song.

NP. Spud's pleasure. Yeah, is classique.

Here is Elvis singing blue moon. I am pretty sure this was the song/recording that Elvis first sang on a record (old timers jump in here;)

July 5th, 1954.

Sun Sessions.

Elvis recorded his first single "That's all Right Momma" and the B side on that one was "Blue Moon of Kentucky" so yes, yer correct in a sense there.

That was the birth of both rock and roll and rockabilly according to some folks.

TY fer the tunes.

Keep on rawkin' in the Free World.

Be Well.

Happy birthday to Eberly as well.

Be Well.

Damn Republicans

Happy Birthday, Eberly!

Blue Moon huh? I suppose it's time for me to make love to my wife. Wish me luck, guys, I'm going in.....

blue moon

da da something somethin somethin

so whats everybody all worked up over a rodgers and hart song?

here's why;

......
And then suddenly appeared before me, the only one my arms could ever hold
I heard somebody whisper 'please adore me'
But when I looked, that moon had turned to gold - oh oh oh
..............

It's obvious. It's a sign to buy gold.

----Ray---------

ah good one...

you and I may be the only 'fossils' here that even know that its a song...

This should make for one hell of a crazy night. You can talk to any cop or emergency worker about how things pick up on nights with full moons. It actually does have an effect on people, and it's usually not in a good way. At least where the law and personal safety are concerned.

Fuck Elvis.

Here's Citah, 50 thousand strong singing Blue Moon for the last time at Maine Road.

And just for shits, the best fans singing the best football song ever,
The Fields of Anfield Road

It probably will be a crazy night (isn't any New Year's Eve?), but not because of the full moon:

www.skepdic.com

If that doesn't raise your skepticism, check out these other links:

lmgtfy.com

I saw the Grateful Dead in the Bay Area, on NY Eve that was a blue moon.

'twas 1991 or so.

Nice. You offer a link to a skeptic site. You can believe everything that that article says, but it doesn't change the fact that the full moon does affect people. Any cop will tell you that more bad things happen on a full moon night. ER rooms up their staff on the coming of a full moon because they know they are going to busier than usual.

You believe what a skeptic tells you. I believe the facts of what actually happens due to a full moon. The moon affects our tides, so how can it not affect us in some way? We are made of water just like the oceans. Be as skeptical as you like, but it doesn't change the fact that a full moon affects people and their behavior.

Ok so lets see

Full Moon - Check
Rain Slick roads - Check
A bunch of drunks thinking they are good drivers - Check

Sounds like a recipie for a real wham bam bang up New Years Eve.

Glad I'm staying home.

Me too. New Years Eve is most definitely for amateur party goers. I won't even be venturing onto the roads after about 8pm. Nope. They can have it.

Equally nice. I offer a contrary viewpoint, but your rebuttal is that you have an issue with me referring to links that agree with me???

I'm well aware of how entrenched your view is, which is why I offered the 'Power of the Google' for OTHER links to support my view (BTW, that Google search of "full moon myth" comes up with almost 65,000 hits!).

You might disagree with me, but how about backing that up with something more substantial than "any cop will tell you" or "ER rooms up their staff" (both of which are just so much 'hand waving' on your part since they are [at this point] simply unsubstantiated/unsupported claims from you).

You're welcome to provide a link, a report, data, statistics, analysis, (heck, SOMETHING) that backs up your belief in "the facts". If, what you say is true and so prevalent, likely you'll be able to deluge us with evidence.

Just to be clear, no one was claiming the moon has no effect. Your point about the moon causing the tides is true (BTW, for both water AND land). However, you claimed: "It actually does have an effect on people, and it's usually not in a good way. At least where the law and personal safety are concerned."

I did a Google search on "full moon myth" combined with "not a myth" and came up with THREE hits:

lmgtfy.com

Meanwhile, I'm more inclined to believe a skeptic, who provides multiple studies with data and analysis, than your anecdotal claims.

I'm working tonight. I'll have a C-list money pundant & mystery guests in the car all night purportedly somewhere down around Laguna Beach/Mission Viejo. I'll spend most of my night party-hopping and playing "guess where we're going now" with drunk cable television personalities. Thank Jeebus for the Magic Garmin.

I guess I'll find out what vomit and career flop looks like under a full blue moon. If ever we meet, and you buy the congnac, I'll tell you what it's like being trapped in a car for 14 straight hours with David Hasselhoff. It's not a tale for the timid.
