Since ZombieHunter referenced the car antenna, the only reason for referencing it was because the gun in that scenario was not accessible. It would be reasonable to assume that the gun in this scenario might not be accessible either, since to say that a choice between a loaded accessible gun and a car antenna is a balanced, equal choice, is extremely stupid. I don't know the scientific ins and outs of judging the intensity of the two fire types you want to compare (WTC and Piper Alpha), but according to these articles the type of fires and the type of structures are so different it would be hard to tell for sure. Too many variables (such as how much composite material was involved in the structures being burned, one fire was out in the open, the other enclosed in a bldg., etc. ) that it might be tough to make a real comparison.
