Less than a year after Inauguration Day, support for the Democratic Party continues to slump, amid a difficult economy and a wave of public discontent.

I figured that I would post this before one of the DR Right put it up with a misleading (and gloating) headline.

Much as it pains me to admit, it does seem that the Administration is losing its way very early in the process, which squanders the outpouring of support that Obama's election generated just over a year ago.

Hopefully, these slipping poll numbers will serve as a wakeup call to the left to coalesce around the administration as the year winds down.

The only wakeup call they're going to get is next November.

Given how bad the prior administration was, I don't think that the midterms are going to be as bad as the righties hope they will be, but only time will tell.

The prior administration is only a comfort to you lefties, son. Repubs and Indies have a bad taste in their mouth.

I have to agree with Wis, (sans calling you son) I see the dems having major losses and President Obama losing even more political influence as the remaining Dems (probably still in a majority in Senate and House) voting more to the right.

I am amazed that President Obama hasn't been able to capitalize more earlier this year.

Good article and post, LCL.

And is it just me or are there more lawyers on here than any other profession?

I know of 2 teachers (BLT and ZAT), one oil rig guy, and 3 lawyers (yourself, Montecore I believe, and a third guy who is a Republican whose handle escapes me.)

What attracts lawyers to the DR?

There are a lot of IT people here too.

MODER8 is a lawyer

My profession is Sausage Maker. I make the finest of Sausage.

I'll make some mighty fine cabinetry as well.

People from all around love my woodwork and my sausage.

#6 - honing their rebuttal skills. Probably why at least one of them is a public defender still...

This is no surprise. As I've said many times, the pendulum continues to swing right to left to right to left.

New leadership in the Senate would restore some Dems hopes. We have endured Harry Reid's weak kneed leadership too long, we need strong leadership who can stand up to people like Joe Lieberman. Democrats are becoming depressed not because we doubt the need for real health care reform, etc. but because the leadership seems afraid to go after real reform with all the tools at their disposal including nuclear option, reconciliation, yanking committee chairmanships, etc. just like the REpublicans would do.

Some interestin numbers to chew on before 2010.

The number of likely voters that call themselves independents is growing.

A larger % of independents call themselves conservative.

Congress has a 14% approval rating.

Independents favor Republicans in Congress over Democrats.

30 million likely voters didn't participate in the last presidential election, they will next time.

A big increase in un-likely voters (there called that for a reason) in the last presidential election.

If the Senate health care bill passes and is signed into law Medicare cuts will begin before the 2010 mid term elections.

The Kentucky state Senate race was a disaster for the Democrats.

That said since WWII every president except 2 has lost the mid-term elections, the average loss of seats being 25.

The only poll is the one on Election Day, so 2010 will be interesting.

There are a lot of IT people here too.

That's cause we're on our computers all day anyway so we might as well blog. Unfortunately, my company is on a jihad about using the company network for personal stuff, so I'll either have to change jobs, retire, or stop posting during the day.
