It's all about processing the tar sands oil. The weather has nothing to do with their political back pedaling on global warming issues. If anything their weather will get wetter and colder as moister air in the higher latitudes brings more snow to the lower latitudes. More snow means more sunlight reflected and cooler local temperatures in Canada's most industrialized regions. For the foreseeable future Canada may actually experience shorter growing seasons as the Earth slowly warms.

The far north will get warmer and Canada has it's eyes on the reserves beneath the Arctic ice. The tar sand oil that Canada has in abundance is actually much more destructive to the atmosphere then sweet crude due to the huge carbon footprint it creates in the refining process.

Canadians also know that if alternative energy sources begin to make economic sense as a result of carbon trading (which is the goal in cap and trade) then their high priced tar sand oil may well be a red herring in the very near future.

In the end, Canada's position will be no different then Saudi Arabia's and for the same reason the right claims Al Gore is interested in...it's all about the money.

How does $2 a ton for CO2 translate to two cents a gallon for gasoline? If that's a world average, the cost would not be equally shared.
At two cents a gallon, I use twenty gallons a week. That's $4 a week or $200 a year. Imagine the huge taxes a trucker would pay.

What's the government going to do with the windfall? Maybe buy a fleet of CO2 producing jet fighters.

This Svensmark and Friis-Christensen is certainly part of the puzzle and I would be the first to say there was a cause and effect going on with cosmic rays and cloud cover, but it does not explain the fact the recent temperature trend is accelerating while cosmic rays have not increased at the same rate. There is more to the picture then this and recent changes in the global climate cannot be explained by this process alone. It is important to remember that lot's of things can effect climate and weather, and man made pollution is part of the equation, in fact enough to upset the balance of nature. There is no single cause of global warming. It's just not as simple as simple minds would have it.
