Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Sunday, December 13, 2009

On Friday, the Opie and Anthony radio show invited several homeless men they pulled off the street into the studio to promote their annual "homeless shopping spree" bit. When they learned one of the men was a musician who had written some songs, they procured him a guitar. Here's his version of Radiohead's "Creep."

Just imagine what this guy could have been if he would have been able to look after himself and followed his talents and dreams and some good dentistry.

Beautiful song. Good rendition. Id give this guy 5 bucks if he played this on the street.

Wow! This guy is good!

Hey Construct -- who the fuck do you think you are? You know this guy or something? Way to be a snide, useless piece of shit.

Pardon me -- that probably violated the moderation policy. But its entirely true. Being dismissive of a human being because they're in a shitty situation is as low as it gets. It shows an extreme lack of character and compassion. Construct has obviously never been broke as shit and probably hasn't had to work very hard either. It makes me angry to no fucking end. It was a beautiful performance. Why the hell can't you leave it at that?

I think you'd better go flag yourself.

I have seen guys in pubs and taverns making several hundred bucks a night who weren't as good as him. I hope he gets a few gigs off of this.

I agree JA.

I used to hang out in a coffee shop that had friday and saturday night live music/poetry whatever. I think I saw 1 act in the year and a half I went there that was as good as him.

Good luck mustard I hope you go viral.

Fair, why so touchy man constuct's comments are pretty mild, man.

When this homeless guy sang this last part of the song's lyrics he got a little teary-eyed --

...
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here.
I don't belong here.

You know he was relating those words to himself and his own situation. You have to wonder what happened in his life to put him on the street without any home and no one to care about him. Could have been anything -- a drinking and/or drug addiction, loss of a job, a downturn in his luck -- who knows. I doubt 10 or 20 years ago he thought he'd ever end up this way -- sad and alone.

Before anyone is quick to blame him just remember -- "There but for the grace of God go I."

I know most homeless guys are on the street because of mental illness and nobody will or can look out for him, this guy obviously has talent and probably could have had a better life, it is a shame and a waste. I noticed his voice sounded damaged but he could carry a tune and probably was a good singer and you can easily notice his lack of teeth in his singing and after years of no dentures it will always sound like that, good dentistry, medical care and a warm place to live plus the support of a family and this guy might have followed his dreams and gone somewhere. This is an example of why we as a people made a mistake by putting/allowing folks to live on the street like that. America should have been better than this and we all know it.

Who cares what he looks like? Part of the reason he does such a killer version of that song is that you can hear the hard times in his voice and his interpretation of the lyrics. It's an amazing performance, and instead of focusing on the physical, we should enjoy the talent of somebody that most of society wouldn't give a moment's time if they saw him on the street.

Aflac always did claim he had musical talent.

Thanks Rcade,that was powerful

That was incredible. The voice was rough but righteously in tune and his timing was impeccable. Rather than detract from the tune the roughness added feeling and character to the song that turned his simple arrangement into a masterpiece.

I made my kids watch this video and let them know that this is just one example of why a book should never be judged by the cover presented. Everyone has something to offer this world even if it isn't always immediately apparent.

Thanks for sharing this Rcade, I will keep an eye out now for any further material from him. Mustard ROCKS!

Moon do you feel an extra special connection to this man since you have been on the verge of homelessness several times yourself and continue to live in poverty?

shut up J A,I would think you'd appreciate that song more than most.

Actually,I was surprised at your appreciation mooman, you're ok after all

Myself I must have listened to it 25 times.the feeling is there

I enjoyed the song. I just wanted to know if Moonman felt a connection more than most.

I enjoyed the song.

I thought it sounded kind of whiney -- like something Neil Young would do.

So you must be on shore since you don't get u-tube on the rig.As neil would say"a man needs to whine"

This guy pulled it off,and was humble, that means alot to me.humble

So you must be on shore since you don't get u-tube on the rig.

Yes I am. I don't usually post from on=shore, but I have been glued to the PC for the last 4 days after a trip to Mexico and a few days before I went to Mazatlan. I bought a 35mm film and slide scanner and I have about 10,000 negatives and slides to scan for archiving. I have been sitting here since 9:00 this AM scanning my little heart out. I sneak a peak at the DR in between. It takes about 2.5 minutes to scan and process one frame.

Time to shove another slide in AAMOF.

I wonder if this man has a political affiliation? I wouldn't feel so bad if it was determined that this guy was a GOP supporter and turned to alcoholism and became homeless.

AAMOF.

I don't know what that means.

oh lord its hard to be humble.

That's a cool song too

As A Matter Of Fact

AAMOF.

Thanks,I'll use that

I bought a 35mm film and slide scanner

What'd you buy.I have a file cabinet full of film I'd like to transfer.

fuck off

If we can get rid of the GOP we can eventually ensure no man within our borders will ever be homeless again. Republicans are too greedy to care about the downtrodden but eventually the DNC will become the dominant force that finds an effective tool in fighting poverty in this country. eliminating tax breaks for the wealthy is a good start mixed with universal healthcare.

What'd you buy.I have a file cabinet full of film I'd like to transfer.

I bought the Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED - 4000 dpi - Film scanner. It does great work. The scanned negatives (after processing) look almost as good as pictures taken with a good quality digital camera.

Huh, kinda neat. Reminds me of Seattle's beloved " Tuba Man". He was a nice old guy who used to play the Tuba down by the Pike Market. Unfortunately he was MURDERED by some kind URBAN AMERCIAN YUTES out for a little innocent fun.
