A contract worth nearly $6 million in stimulus funds was awarded by the Obama adminstration to two firms run by Mark Penn, Hillary Clinton's pollster in 2008. Federal records show that a contract worth $5.97 million, part of the $787 billion stimulus Congress passed this year, helped preserve three jobs at Burson-Marsteller, the global public-relations and communications firm headed by Penn.

Three jobs saved or created! Gobama!

Mark J. Penn, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's chief campaign strategist, has worked closely with the Clintons for years. In 1995 and 1996, he was an adviser for the reelection campaign of then-President Bill Clinton.

Another in the "Rich and Famous in Hypocrisy" series. Joe - don't expect any condemnation from the left - you've heard of "blind-eye syndrome"?

The depths of the liberal hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me.

Chicken,

there is no difference in the parties. it is the hypocrisy of "career politicians" on both sides that is the reality.

This isn't about hypocrisy until the lefties show up and defend the spending. This article is about waste, and connected millionaires getting all the breaks. How many jobs could you have saved or created with $6,000,000.00?

They'll ALL do what they feel like doing until the rest of America decides it's had enough:

www.usatoday.com

OH WAIT - it may mean reaching across the aisle without fear - nevermind.

"This article is about waste"

Umm, our entire culture and economy is based on Waste ----- where the fuck have you been?

But I like how the "Stay the Course" to Near Financial Ruin gang has all of a sudden like found an interest in how money is being accounted for (remember the 9 billion "lost", or the 43 million bush gave to the Taliban). It's almost as shocking a turnaround as their flip-flop on policies that they themselves defended all the way up to November 4th 2008!

""Burson-Marsteller, and the approved set of vendors, including its sister company Penn Schoen & Berland LLC, successfully completed the work with the FCC on time and under budget, the company said in its statement. "Burson-Marsteller received a total of $1,375,000 in professional fees to manage and support this time sensitive national and local effort with a large team of professionals. They disbursed the rest to firms around the country in local communities," the company said.

Burson-Marsteller said its sister company, Penn, Schoen & Berland, received only $142,000 in fees. The rest was spent on a $2.4 million media buy that went to newspapers and local radio stations around the country and $147,000 spent for the services of advertising production houses, according to Burson-Marsteller."

Nothing illegal or even unethical occurred here. Are the former PR professionals supposed to stop working after an election is over???
How many of the DR critics of this defended the no-bid contracts awarded to Haliburton for BILLIONS???
Did Haliburton complete their contracts early and under budget???
This is only an important story to those DESPERATE to find scandals in the Obama administration.

Obama supported the first stimulus...

it is the hypocrisy of "career politicians" on both sides that is the reality.

That is the truth.

The problem is that fools like Chickenchoker and Afkabibble believe their candidates shit don't stink.

The depths of the liberal hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me.

Funny how I fail to remember your condemnation of contracts being given to Cheney connected businesses even after proof of fraud surfaced.

Aren't you too young for Alzheimers?

Umm, our entire culture and economy is based on Waste

That's an excuse for more waste? What a fucking idiot.

Nothing illegal or even unethical occurred here. Are the former PR professionals supposed to stop working after an election is over???

How can you know nothing illegal or unethical occurred here without being party to the various communications and transactions that took place?

No, they aren't supposed to stop working after an election is over. But there are plenty of other competent PR firms in the United States that aren't joined at the hip with the Clintons. Are you suggesting all firms were given equal opportunity to receive the grant, and that Penn's group won it on the merits?

$10 Billion more goes toward buying votes:

"Black Caucus Nets $10 Billion In Boycott

Your tax dollars at work because the 40 member Congressional Black Caucus decided to walkout, staging a boycott on a bill on banking regulations. To secure their votes, Barney Frank and company simply reached into your pocket and came up with, if I read this correctly, 10 billion dollars for them. Democracy, or blackmail? Is there really much of a difference between the two in Washington these days, where votes are always up for sale?

The money would come out of the $700 billion financial rescue fund."

www.riehlworldview.com

"Associated Press reports that House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank coughed up the dough. Your dough, that is. The bribe will be siphoned from the endlessly morphing TARP fund. Not that Frank really fought that hard. What's it to him? It's not his money"

michellemalkin.com

$2 mil each for 3 jobs. Payback or merely waste? Does one need to be a conspiracy theorist to see the truth? Imagine had this happen during the Bush years and they were friends of Cheney. But it would have been just waste, right?

Why does the government have to adveritise to support the 3 networks? Isn't it in the networks best intrest to tell people how to keep getting their signal? It was a payoff for political favors.

Public campaign financing without any of the loyalty or benefit acruing to the public. How fucked up is that?

"How can you know nothing illegal or unethical occurred here without being party to the various communications and transactions that took place?"

I thought in the US we were considered innocent until proven guilty. It isn't on me to prove they were not doing anyting illegal or even unethical, that responsibility is the accusers.

I thought in the US we were considered innocent until proven guilty.

We are, in criminal courts. Mark Penn is not in a criminal court. Are we not allowed to talk about what may have occurred until that happens?

And I'll repeat what your dumb ass never responded to. There are plenty of other competent PR firms in the United States that aren't joined at the hip with the Clintons. Are you suggesting all firms were given equal opportunity to receive the grant, and that Penn's group won it on the merits?

That's an excuse for more waste? What a fucking idiot.

Says the guy who made excuse after excuse as they cheered "Stay the Course" to near financial ruin.

I don't know about you but 5.97 million is ALLOT less than the 43 Million Bush gave the Taliban just weeks before 9-11. And it's considerably less than the 9 billion that just went "missing" in Iraq. And its substantially less than the money we paid cheney/KBR for contaminated water, shoddy construction, food that never existed, etc, etc --- all of which you said was making us "safer" (from what I still don't know).

It's not my fault you said all these things only to forget you said these things to later rail against what you once defended, excused and shrugged off!

Talk about being an Idiot!

Are you suggesting all firms were given equal opportunity to receive the grant, and that Penn's group won it on the merits?

You have proof otherwise?

The cool thing about having big majorities and the White House is that you no longer have to be concerned about appearances. You can leave it up to the Rednecks and the Corkys to bring their douchebaggery to the blogs, while your friends get rich.

Hope and change! It would have been a shame to save some jobs in Wisconsin or Kentucky, when there are 3 jobs closer to home--Washington, that is--that need rescue instead. I wonder how many bridges could have been repaired for $6 million? How many guys would that have kept busy?

Says the guy who made excuse after excuse as they cheered "Stay the Course" to near financial ruin.

I ripped the Bush administration for overspending every chance I got. If you can find a link showing otherwise (you won't), then post it, you stupid fuck.

The rest of your post is just deflections (they wasted money, so we can waste it too). Nice to see you holding your Democrats to such a low standard.

"Are you suggesting all firms were given equal opportunity to receive the grant, and that Penn's group won it on the merits?"

And I'm saying that if you don't think the other firms were allowed to compete then make your case.
Until you do I will assume all was fair because I have no reason not to.

You have proof otherwise?

Did I say I have proof? If you honestly think that this contract was up for grabs and that Penn happened to be the best man for the job, more power to you. Those living in reality will probably disagree.

"You can leave it up to the Rednecks and the Corkys to bring their douchebaggery to the blogs, while your friends get rich."

The amounts involved are microscopic compared to the amounts awarded in no-bid contracts by Bushco.

I will assume all was fair

And your selectivity in terms of when you make that assumption is why you are a fucking tool, Danni.

The amounts involved are microscopic compared to the amounts awarded in no-bid contracts by Bushco.

Translation: They wasted and pilfered a lot, so our own wasting and pilfering is excusable.

Are you four years old?

"And your selectivity in terms of when you make that assumption is why you are a fucking tool, Danni."

You didn't present any sort of argument so I'm a tool. I get it Joe.

Danni,

What country are you living in that the politicians have earned your trust? I would like to visit.

Just because the party you support did something does not mean you should not question it. The Republicans have learned that lesson over the past 8 years and you would be wise to not forget it too.

I don't know about you but 5.97 million is ALLOT less than the 43 Million Bush gave the Taliban just weeks before 9-11. And it's considerably less than the 9 billion that just went "missing" in Iraq. (Idiocy omitted for clarity.)

So what's the threshold before we audit and prosecute people for corruption and theft?

"Just because the party you support did something does not mean you should not question it."

But that doesn't mean I have to help tear down the party I support, the opposition is quite capable of doing that without my help. In this case there is no indication of any wrongdoing, they performed their duties under the contract and finished early and under budget. Sorry, but that just isn't where I would look for corruption with so many projects over budget, late, and shoddy workmanship all over the place. The article quotes only Republican Senators as "accusers" who it is pretty obvious are just political grandstanding. This is much ado about nothing. I'm not saying all Dems are innocent but in this case there just is no "there" there.

Judge Joey's Kangaroo Kourt

In this case there is no indication of any wrongdoing, they performed their duties under the contract and finished early and under budget.

A federal stimulus bill spent $5.97 million to save 3 jobs and you shrug your shoulders because they did what they said they were going to do and did it cheaper and faster. The problem is not this company, it is people like you who think that this is an acceptable use of MY tax dollars. If these services were needed by the Federal Government then they should have come through the normal budgeting and financing contracts, not some spending spree "stimulus plan" under the pretext of creating jobs.

Honestly, Danni, get your head in the game.

"This isn't about hypocrisy until the lefties show up and defend the spending. This article is about waste, and connected millionaires getting all the breaks. How many jobs could you have saved or created with $6,000,000.00?"

apparently just one.

'Shovel-ready' heh?????

Seems he specializes in 'other' jobs. Funny how when there is a pattern of fraud and deceit the left refuses to see it!!

www.mydd.com

there just is no "there" there.

Is $6,000,000.00 in stimulus money to save three jobs not a "there?" Would 6 million to save one job be okay with you too? Zero jobs? Also okay?

PLUS he worked for so many of those multinationals that Danni looovessss!!

www.democraticunderground.com

His client relationships include Ford Motor Company, Merck, Verizon, BP, McDonald's and Microsoft. How do you think he gets contracts? Certainly not cause of the clinton connection heh? (quid pro quo) Kinda like Chelsea working for a hedge fund

Next thing danni will tell you is Andy Stern is not benefiting financially from their messiah connections.

Not so slowly and very surely the people are realizing that the emperor and his minions are wearing no clothes. THe blinders are coming off.

$700 billion financial slush fund will be doled out around election time.

I thought in the US we were considered innocent until proven guilty. It isn't on me to prove they were not doing anyting illegal or even unethical, that responsibility is the accusers.

As usual you missed the whole point. The government has no business advertising for the networks. It is the 3 networks and all their stations that should tell the viewer how to get TV.

the democrats and republicans are destroying this country. do any of you really believe any of the shit they say?

its all about money. not about you.

they collectively offer a microcosm of what the Democratic Party has come to stand for in the 21st century. Virtually all of the Rubinites brought in to manage the economy under Obama share the same fundamental political philosophy carefully articulated for years by the Hamilton Project: Expand the safety net to protect the poor, but let Wall Street do whatever it wants. "Bob Rubin, these guys, they're classic limousine liberals," says David Sirota, a former Democratic strategist. "These are basically people who have made shitloads of money in the speculative economy, but they want to call themselves good Democrats because they're willing to give a little more to the poor. That's the model for this Democratic Party: Let the rich do their thing, but give a fraction more to everyone else."

The list goes on and on. Even Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, who has been out of government for only 30 months of his adult life, managed to collect $18 million during his private-sector stint with a Wall Street firm called Wasserstein-Perella.

Not to mention his glorious run as board member on the extremely well managed freddie mac!!

I am a Republican and I am fed up with my party too. I think we should vote all of them out of office and start anew with people that truly will represent the people of this country! Our congress and president are all a bunch of dishonest hypocrites that only care about themselves and their special interests!

I think we should vote all of them out of office and start anew with people that truly will represent the people of this country!

That would only last a couple of years if we don't take away their bennies. They have a gravy train, why should they give it up?
