A committee of South Carolina lawmakers voted down a measure to impeach Republican Gov. Mark Sanford on Wednesday, recommending instead a formal rebuke for his trips to Argentina to see his mistress. "We can't impeach for hypocrisy," said Rep. James Harrison, a fellow Republican who headed the House committee.

what does he have to do?? must he pardon a killer who then goes out and kills 4 police officers??

Useless Republicans. But oh Mark Sanford was all for impeaching Clinton for the EXACT SAME THING. Typical Hypocrisy.

Larry

careful now, Gov Sanford is a christian

Gawd wanted him to cheat on his wife.

The seven-member committee voted 6-1 not to recommend impeachment. Republican Rep. Greg Delleney was the only one who voted for it. There were three Republicans and four Democrats on the panel.

So 4 Dems voted against the impeachment and the 3 Reps split 2 to 1?

Spud's kinda split too.

A personal transgression like an affair should not cost a politician his job through impeachment but at the polls or through the nomination process.

On the other hand, Sanford's inept handling of the whole affair did make him and his state a laughing stock fer a bit but then Letterman's affairs stole his thunder and now Tiger is the cheater du jour fer the MSM to chew up and spit out.

Personally, Spud feels that as long as wot a politician does with his or her naughty bits is consensual and legal it aint any of Spud's business.

Spud don't countenance cheating, he just don't think it's that huge of a concern.

There are bigger fish to fry out there politically and this kinda stuff while titalating is also distracting as hell.

Be Well.

The committee also looked at 37 state ethics charges related to the governor's travel in state aircraft, upgraded air tickets for mostly international flights and campaign reimbursements.
The governor still faces 37 civil charges when a state Ethics Commission panel meets next year. Fines could total $74,000.

I guess supporting a stimulus package or not depends on what part of you is getting stimulated.

AND YET
charley rangel is STILL chair of ways and means.

Why not bring the asshole up on criminal charges for using state money to go screw his Argentine mistress?

After he is convicted, then impeach him.

Useless Republicans.

Useless politicians. They probably all have dirty hands so they have a pact to cover for each other.

"We can't impeach for hypocrisy, because then we'd all be out of a job"

My posts obviously put me firmly in the Conservative camp. That said - the guy is a total disgrace...

The cheating is bad enough -- but shouldn't disqualify him from the position. When I saw the email detailing his travel (on MY DIME) though, I wanted to kill the POS.

It's the utter disdain for the taxpayer, and abuse of power that pisses me off. 90% of these bastards - left, right and center should be given the Bum's Rush.

And by the way - Clinton was not impeached for having done the "exact same thing". He was impeached for lying under oath about it.

JM

And before anyone replies that -- Clinton was NOT IMPPEACHED -- look up the definition.

This is why we need to get rid of this dead wood in the Republican Party. Lose all of them. I'm sick and tired of the double standards.

Useless Republicans. But oh Mark Sanford was all for impeaching Clinton for the EXACT SAME THING. Typical Hypocrisy.

larry bud.
you are in SERIOUS NEED of a history lesson about the impeachment of bill clinton if you REALLY believe this............

and I GUESS they are figuring it like the ford pardon of nixon..the damage is done to his career and if anything needs to be done now...get any state money he may have used and make him pay it back or something.......

And before anyone replies that -- Clinton was NOT IMPPEACHED -- look up the definition.

He was impeached. Charges were brought forward against him.

He wasn't removed.

Of course Clinton was impeached. He wasn't convicted. Like Andrew Johnson was impeached but not tossed out. Nixon would've probably managed to get himself both impeached (articles of impeachment cleared the House Judiciary Committee) and convicted had he not skeedaddled out of office. One of the higher low points of Arizona political life was watching the impeachment (and conviction) of the state's risible car dealer governor, Ed Mecham.

Now that the heat is off looks like Wifey told Governor Womanizer to take a hike!

Interesting that she filed for divorce the day after he announced he wanted to reconcile with her. Guess the feeling is not mutual.
