Officials said it included nonprofit national health plans administered by the Office of Personnel Management, which runs the popular federal employees' health plan, as well as opening Medicare to uninsured Americans beginning at age 55, effective in 2011.

So far it sounds better than I expected it would. OMB will score it then we'll get to see the details.
It looks likely they can pass it which would be historic. Change you can believe in!

Funny how you libs were just arguing that Medicare is going south, which was supposed to be the reason for healthcare reform.

Medicare is going to bankrupt us, which is why we need universal health care

Jeez, don't you wonder what adding millions of people would do to it?

Not perfect but ok. Ted is anti everything good for the people if he thinks his taxes would go up a nickel.

"Funny how you libs were just arguing that Medicare is going south, which was supposed to be the reason for healthcare reform."

That has never been my argument, I have always said that we should make Medicare open to everyone and let younger people pay premiums which would make Medicare viable. Our present system is the worst of both worlds, we let private insurers profit during our younger healthier years and then let them dump us onto Medicare when we become older and require more health care services. Great for insurance companies but completely a fools bargain for taxpayers.

So, let's take a system that is unsustainable, and add a whole lot of people to it, and dump its onerous costs on the next generations. Mighty thoughtful of you.

The Dems need to put this to bed.

Excellent critique of GOP fiscal irresonsibility. (As well, I'll add, of the neocon universe.) Kudos!

Then support elected leaders who'll join in the effort to fix it these problems.

Don't just settle for sitting back and crapping allover the process (tea parties, demagoguing, mischaracterizing, lies, etc.).

Danni, Danni, Danni. Young people already pay premiums to Medicare. They pay it through their life so it will be available to them when they retire. Mr. "Hoax and Change" wants to cut $500 billion from the same Medicare the young people will pay into for 40 years and receive reduced coverage. Now that's historic. Hoax...I mean Change you can believe in!

"Excellent critique of GOP fiscal irresonsibility."

Any fiscal irresponsibility on the part of democrats, Doc? OR does all the corruption, immorality, tax cheating, bribery, theft etc. belong only to the GOP while your Messianic-led democrats are pure as the driven snow? Have you been tutored at Danni's feet in...

Democrats...GOOD!
Republicans...BAD! ????

Or perhaps you've been indoctrinated with...

MMM MMM MMM!
Barack Hussein Obama!

....and now you are incapable of finding ANY fault with Dear Leader or a democrat politician? Me thinks you are a zealot and an ideologue of the highest order, Doc.

"Young people already pay premiums to Medicare."

No we pay Medicare taxes and Insurance premiums if we buy health insurance. Paying premiums into Medicare while we are younger and healthier will make the system financially more viable because as we pay in premiums most of us don't require expensive health care services which is exactly why health insurance companies love the present system....they profit on younger healthier customers then shift the burden of paying for the services required when we are older onto taxpayers. They get the best of both worlds while taxpayers get the worst of both.
You righties will try and pretend this isn't real progress but Dems have tapped into a smart idea....give Americans 55 and over hope that they will not necessarily lose coverage and end up in bankruptcy should they lose employment or if their empolyers drop coverage due to the greedy leeches increasing costs.

Neither party gets any credit for fiscal responsibility. There seemed to be a sliver of a chance when Clinton and the GOP arrived at an agreement. But we all know what happened to that, don't we, Jest?

Obama wants more donations so he can push healthcare. It is time yet again to dig into your pockets. Dig deep followers. Obama needs your money.

"You elected a President, but now we need the resources to make sure the change you made possible becomes real."
