That beach is 12 miles from home, and 8 miles off that road is sand and mud. Of course I took my truck. How else are we going to haul all that trash out? We took 26 truck loads out last summer. That's just a tiny drop in the bucket of what's floating around in the north pacific alone. If you took the time actually look at the links provided you will see that Hawaii is pretty far south from the gyre itself and the beach in the picture is on the southern tip of the Big island.
