A series of car bombings has killed at least 127 people and wounded 448 in the centre of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. Iraqi national security adviser Mowaffaq al-Rubaie blamed al-Qaeda militants for the attacks. He told the BBC their aim was to destabilise the country ahead of general elections due in March.

The whole point of the Patraeus Surge was political reconciliation.

The quicker the Iraqi sunnis reconcile with their shia counterparts the quicker they all can work together, security wise, in preventing these types of atttacks and the sooner our troops can leave.

Thanks Dubya Thanks Bushites. How does that make You folks feel Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm No comment ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh typical of Your uselessnessses.

The sunnis just got screwed by the kurds and shia in the recent election law. Expect a post election "tune-up" of the sunnis by the shia and kurds.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Admiral Kelly, Captain Card, officers and sailors of the USS Abraham Lincoln, my fellow Americans: Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed.

Today, we have the greater power to free a nation by breaking a dangerous and aggressive regime. With new tactics and precision weapons, we can achieve military objectives without directing violence against civilians. No device of man can remove the tragedy from war. Yet it is a great advance when the guilty have far more to fear from war than the innocent.

In the Battle of Afghanistan, we destroyed the Taliban, many terrorists, and the camps where they trained. We continue to help the Afghan people lay roads, restore hospitals, and educate all of their children. Yet we also have dangerous work to complete. As I speak, a special operations task force, led by the 82nd Airborne, is on the trail of the terrorists, and those who seek to undermine the free government of Afghanistan. America and our coalition will finish what we have begun.

From Pakistan to the Philippines to the Horn of Africa, we are hunting down al-Qaida killers. Nineteen months ago, I pledged that the terrorists would not escape the patient justice of the United States. And as of tonight, nearly one-half of al-Qaida's senior operatives have been captured or killed.

The liberation of Iraq is a crucial advance in the campaign against terror. We have removed an ally of al-Qaida, and cut off a source of terrorist funding.

Well, this is the same thing that is going to happen in Afghanistan. When the US troops are in country in number, you will see mainly a lower level Guerilla type war, Then when the troops leave...well...tee hee hee.... you REPUBLIRAT PHONYCONS know what's going to happen.

Yo Larry and Woke, Bush isn't POTUS anymore. Let me repeat........Bush isn't POTUS anymore. Barry told us when he took over this would end. He is a total failure.

Attn: Fishpaw where do you get your information? Perhaps instead of regurgitating rw talking points/misinformation, you'd do better to go to the actual campaign web site that lists what Obama did and did not promise regarding iraqnam and Afghanistan, eh?

....he said he would remove our troops from combat duty within 16 months and then move to FINISH the job Bush didn't in Afghanistan.....

Barack Obama will work with his military commanders to responsibly end the war in Iraq. Obama will refocus our resources on al Qaeda in Afghanistan and finish the fight with the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11.

Obama loves to blow up people and things just as much as his predecessor. The truth is that 52% of Americans think the war in Afghanistan isn't worth it. But instead of leaving, Obama is escalating the war by sending even more troops into the region to blow up weddings and prayer circles.

"Finish the fight with the terrorists?" What a joke.

Nice source WOKE. His campaign changed from immediate withdraw to 6 months, 12 months, 16 months, to what the generals tell him. For some reason Obama.com might say differently.

Fishpaw

The page is posted right there. He has never said immediate withdrawal. He has always stated 16 months withdrawal of combat troops from iraqnam.

You are either a LIAR or a TOOL of LIARS. (ie a DUPE or a SHILL for repug/neocons)

Which?

OBVIOUSLY....GOD DOESN`T LIKE MUSLIMS....

Hey Dumbass. Dubya is the one who got vthis illegal war started. It will always be his responsibility no matter what. Do You not grasp this yet??? You want to shirk Dubya's responsibility for the thing. You are just like Your fucktard. You won't even acknowledge it. But do carry on deflecting from Dubya. It's all You and Your ilk has left.

Larry

The right wingers would love for us to forget Bush's series of massive blunders.

Great Britain is carrying out an investigation on the Iraq War. Yesterday the general in charge for the UK at that time testified that he told Tony Blair that they could undoubtedly win the fight, but post invasion they'd be screwed for lack of a plan - just as W and Cheney were told, but went ahead anyway. Stupidity and arrogance personified at both 10 Downing St. and 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

You are just like Your fucktard.

If this sentence made any sense at all, it might be persuasive. But since it doesn't make any sense, it's just sad.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. Obama's selling his Afghanistan escalation partly on A.Q.'s presence, and then here in Iraq we hear about A.Q. blowing up people; the same argument can be made.

Interesting how the rw has now split into a faction calling Obama sending more troops an "escalation" and saying all troops should be sent home immediately (something they never said when bush, the guy who created the mess, was potus

and others complain that our troops were dying while Obama "dithered"......

Maybe those two rw groups should get in a room together and work out their differences...otherwise, the next election will turn out even worse for them....

Rasmussen right wing pollsters are showing this on their latest poll:

Dems=36%
TeaPary=25%
Reps=18%

too funny....can anyone say "ross perot"????

The righties are having a tough time these days. Notice how angry they have become lately? You never hear any of them say anything nice at all. It must really suck to know your whole life was wasted on losers and foul mouths for friends. Well, what can we expect. The rest of the nation figured out what a dismal failure Bush and Cheney turned out to be and now the pubbies best prospect for 2012 is a small town bimbo that people are throwing rotten veges at. Maybe we should cut them some slack before they all have a nervous breakdown or go postal.
