300 US soldiers killed in 2009 so far in Afghanistan. That is more than 2007 and 2008 combined.

These are Iraq's number by year.

It's going to get ugly.

I've noticed that newspaper daily death totals have disappeared since Obama took office. Many newspapers, including the one here in Spokane, kept daily track of casualties. Oddly enough, since the change in presidency, those little tidbits have disappeared. But Afghanistan is now Obama's war. He had the chance to pull out, and has elected to escalate the American presence. Maybe we can finally get past the Bush's fault phase of the administration. But I doubt it.

I don't know who posted the casualties on the DR, but they stopped doing that, too.

Will the media want to see the coffins as they come off the planes by the hundred?

Well, at least the previons administrations blackout policy's been rescinded.

How long will that last.

I support the blackout policy and I'm sad it's gone. At least the families still have the ability to put the kibosh on photo ops. I never liked the death tolls being published as news (for political gain) and I am glad they are gone, whatever the reason.

Fallen comrades should not be political fodder.

"Fallen comrades should not be political fodder."

Nor should the measure of their loss be hidden from those who've sent them off to war.

Showing the coffins shows us the cost of war. To not see it is to make an uninformed decision regarding whether or not to support going to war, or escalating one in progress.

Fallen comrades should not be political fodder.

And take away a photo-op for our C.I.C? That's just plain wrong. -CorkSarvis

7&8; The cost of war should never be underestimated, I agree on that point. For people who would like the images to be seen as a poignant message against a war they feel is unjust, that is a legit point.

There are so many wackos out there, however, that would (and have) used fallen soldiers to score cheap political points that it is disgusting.

Honor the fallen with quiet respect, not some dig for 15 minutes of bad press against the President, whichever party he is from.
