Swearing to the good character of Goldman Sachs Group Inc., a banker applied to the local police for a permit to buy a pistol. The banker had told this friend of mine that senior Goldman people have loaded up on firearms and are now equipped to defend themselves if there is a populist uprising against the bank. I called Goldman Sachs spokesman Lucas van Praag to ask whether it's true that Goldman partners feel they need handguns to protect themselves from the angry proletariat. He didn't call me back. The New York Police Department has told me that "as a preliminary matter" it believes some of the bankers I inquired about do have pistol permits. The NYPD also said it will be a while before it can name names.

Too bad none of that bank bailout money came with any conditions or regulations attached.

Too bad none of that bank bailout money came with any conditions or regulations attached.

Bush and the bandito buddies in his Administration made sure it didn't.

Bush shoved 8 years of "deregulation" down our throats while he and his pals robbed our country blind.

What do you think "deregulation" means anyway?

deregulation = NO regulations, NO rules, and a license to steal.

You know what your mommy used to CC....

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Although two rights do make a good level headed Conservative household.

P.S. Quit watching MSNBC

P.S. Quit watching MSNBC

Been too busy the last couple months to watch tv.

Catch CNN and Fox now and then as I'm passing thru the room but don't have time to just sit and watch.

And you know I was right in my #2.

Worse than a crook is a man who will blindly stick up for one and sees no wrong.

And don't hand me that crap "Oh, that was in the past."
What Bush did in the past is why we're in the trouble we're in now.

And of Obama you think what?

That will tell the rest of the story....

Looks like regulation will be the death of us all if O has his way.

So, in essence you must think that big government is the way to go?

And redistribution of wealth too?

Debt that not even my kids or their's will be able to pay off?

#2 Calif,

Your partisan oversimplification doesn't suffice. Of course the Fed is the #1 culprit with complicity from many Presidential administrations. Beyond that, one of the major tools facilitating the robbery was that the repeal of the Glass Steagal Act produced the highly leveraged instruments that are now unwinding

And actually, Bush was rebuffed when he tried to do something to regulate Barney and his cronies at Freddie and Fannie.

Concealed gun permits are almost impossible for ordinary citizens to obtain in New York or nearby states.

It always amazes me people are stupid enough to live in a shit hole where you are not allowed to protect yourself, Washington DC is fucked up and so is almost all of New England. But don't worry dumb asses the Police will protect you especially if you are in the local donut shop...

I lived in D.C. Crime isn't a problem except, as in many cities, you're in certain locations. If you're a resident, you know exactly what signs to look for when you're walking through sections of town that you're not familiar. Same with Boston and NY - both of which I visit often. That generalization is just silly. All you have to do is look at the crime stats for Dallas or Houston.

A gun in no substitute for a brain.

and a brain is no substitute for a gun ... see, it all depends on the reality of the immediate situation.

And just who was it who repealed the Glass-Stegal Act?

It was REPUBLICAN Senator Phil Gramm who co-wrote the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act repealing Glass-Stegal.

I agree with you the financial mess we're in was with the compliance of previous Administrations (including Clinton's Secretary of the Treasury Rubin), and that the Fed is #1 on the list of crooks, but none encouraged and allowed deregulation to run amok as much as the Bush Administion.

I'm not partisan, as I belong to neither the Democrat nor Republican party, but am registered on the voting roles as an independent.

I merely call 'em as I see 'em.

Administion = Administration

People have discussed crime in NY or other big cities. What does this have to do with anything? Nobody addressed what are these execs thinking in their need to protect themselves against a populist uprising? Why would this happen?

We may have gotten an unexpected answer to this question!
