Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Tuesday, December 01, 2009

Virginia Saenz could hear the desperation in the voice of the telephone message. It was 5 a.m. on the day before Thanksgiving, and the caller, Lucy Crutchfield, was trying to tell her daughter that she'd send money for groceries -- but she'd have to miss a mortgage payment to do it. But Crutchfield dialed the wrong number. Instead of getting her daughter, she got Saenz, a real estate agent from the San Diego suburb of Tierrasanta. Saenz did the only thing she could think of -- she called Crutchfield back and said not to worry. Crutchfield would pay the mortgage, and Saenz would handle the groceries.

Cool story.

Braggart.

Yes, I suppose since nooone in the story praises Jeebus it makes them evil, evil people in your eyes Nanc. You are about the most awful person around even giving that idiot Niceville a run for the title.

I sincerely wish you tragedy for Christmas.

That's a beautiful story! Its wonderful not seeing someone worried about themselves for once.

What a beautiful, heartwarming story!

I hope this inspires people to help others less fortunate during these difficult times!

Plenty of saints in the world, in all walks of life, in spite of what the cynical idiots will whine about.

Droolforsale got the spam thing down pat.

usaf242,

some of them even work in government...like brookley born or george shultz.

Too many people and not enough jobs, by design?

Well in our country it is a concerted effort to suppress wages, one of the many terrible ways Government and Corporate America work together, for their personal gain and against the common good.

Not to say it isn't worse in most parts of the world, where 1/3 make one dollar a day. These starvation wages are associated with high birth rates and poor education. The balance between oxygen, CO2, plant and animal life is fixed. As we displace other animals, destroy forests & fisheries, pollute and game, life gets harder and harder.

But, no one in politics will address life quality, except in a few regions like Scandanavia, Europe and New Zealand.

#2 - "Braggart" is the best you can come up with, Nanc? For all we know, the Crutchfields or a third party contacted the reporter to tell about a good Samaritan, and you come in and instantly judge the good-deeders with a one-word harumph. Classy.

Nanc,
What's your problem?

God bless America, people are awesome!

As an employee for a non-profit, I KNOW that people are generous (at least for charities that accomplish something).

If only those who fundraise for the police and firefighters didn't take 90%! (For admin fees)

Heartwarming story. What an unselfish act, and I'm sure the angels are smiling. I hope Nanc gets the opportunity to do the same, but I have a feeling that inside she has a heart of stone.

This Christmas I plan on volunteering some time at the Rescue Mission. Kitchen help and cleanup. Why not?

I don't go to the news and puff myself up in my charitable endeavors. You have nooooooo idea what our family does throughout the year for others, DX.

p.s. yes, it was a wonderful deed she did.

How do you know this woman contacted the news herself, Nanc? Did I miss that part of the story?

I'm glad SOMEONE did though! It brings attention to things we may be able to do to help others. Sometimes we get so caught up in our own little world we forget there are things we can do to lighten the burden of others.

DX...that's a great gift to others!!

You're right Nanc, I don't have a clue what you do the rest of the year, but the gist of the story is that a family was about to lose their home, but the mother had such compassion that she would sacrifice her home to keep her daughter from starving.

That's nothing to brag about.

Exactly, Lisa. Why would someone assume they went to the media? Having worked in the media most of my life, I will tell you that in almost every such instance, a third party who wants to tell a good story contacts the media, and then it's off to the races. Should the good Samaritan have refused to cooperate with the media? False humility is no better than bragging.

Thank you Lisa, we are put on this earth to help each other.

No one should be judging the participants in this story. You don't know the background, and neither do I. That's the point, Nanc. Expect the best of people, appreciate the goodness that this story represents, stop and smell the roses, and enjoy your life.

Nanc shows her lack of class once again

DX:

No need for thanks. It warms my heart to hear of people who give of themselves!!

Unknown givers show true spirit of giving:

When my eldest son was about 2, I was a newly single mother. My son's father was gone, I was broke, we had to move out of our apartment, and things were looking pretty bleak. I had $20 to my name. Instead of sitting home and feeling sorry for myself, I decided to take my son to Denny's for pancakes and pretend, at least for an hour or so, that things were going to be ok. We sat there and had our pancakes just like anyone else. When we went to leave, the waitress told me that someone else had paid the bill. It was all I could do to keep from crying right there in the middle of the restaurant. Years later, I still wish I'd known her name so I could have thanked her. I even wrote a letter to the editor of the local newspaper thanking her.

There is nothing wrong with being recognized for doing something that will make a lasting difference in someone's life.

Sure, giving anonymously to church or a food bank or some charity is a great thing to do, but a personal act is bigger than that. If everyone did at least one random act of kindness a year, the world would be an infinitely better place. It doesn't always need to involve money. I used to clean the snow off of my co workers' cars before I left work. holding the door for someone who has an armload of packages works. Shovel a sidewalk, let someone know that their lights are on, help a little old lady cross the street, hell, give a cigarette and a cup of coffee to a homeless vet, but do something. And if someone is recognized for doing so, it only goes to encourage someone else to do it, how can that be bad?

Of course, I'm sure Nanc has already decided that the family in question was undeserving in some way. Judgement goes both ways, honey. Hope you are never on the needy side because karma will bite you in the ass someday, mark my words:)

#24 - I never even implied the families were undeserving. Not once.

p.s. - we've been on BOTH sides of that fence, missy.

This is awesome!:

Great story. Funny to see all the people with the "when I I I I I do good, and I I I I I always do so so much good, I I I I I never ask for recognition" Give me a break!!

The site is an obvious ripper. Some buttface in China.

Perhaps we can sign lin up for every direct marketing scam, porn sight and Fox news affiliate in the country.

PS. I see dzlinger is on it too, I see. This is getting pretty annoying. Yesterday I tried to buy something on the site just to see if I could get to a contact page. This site is just a sick joke. Anybody dumb enough to actually give them a CC # deserves to be robbed.
